He needs to workout, his body looks so strangely proportioned

There is no room for creativity when high amounts of money are at stake.

He looks much worse again, gained back considerable weight in latest videos.

todays video was good tho

More artists=less individual artist impact
With one artist you get a feeling of the guy behind the game and their quirks when playing through it
One example being original Runescape and the way the brothers wrote quests

The more polished and professional something is, the less soul it has (generally). You can tell when a game is designed by a corporate committee versus a group of passionate people who want to make something actually good.

hes a LoL fag. Do you expect anything good from them?

Is it true that the reason Jon took a huge break making videos last year was because he was in rehab?

Excess.

More money being involved means taking less chances and risks on more interesting ideas. When something takes off the people putting up the money to get it made want a bigger return on their investment and want to lower the risk of failure which means broader audience appeal which in turn leads to a more bland and safe product that is generically appealing.

I think the bigger question is how the fuck does Jon think he's still relevant?

Lower budgets mean you have to put effort in to achieve what you want and do it well. Higher budget means you you're doing a lot more work in areas that probably don't matter and spending far more on marketing than is needed because you're trying to make the next GTA instead of just a good game.

Creators have to use more effort when they're hindered by limitations such as small budget. It's why a lot of old games are considered "soulful": developers had to put in more effort and work much smarter to work around technical limitations.

See: Iwata's compression of Gold and Silver's data to allow Kanto to exist and Naughty Dog's various tricks to get Crash Bandicoot working.

umm sweaty this is a resetera colony you are not allowed to talk about this alt right racist here

Because there is always an air of corporate scumbaggery around when stuff like "high budget" youtube videos happen

Who fucking knows, Jon has disappeared before and probably will again.

he's gotten tubby again it seems
I don't think he can film in his apartment anymore because of his dog and cat and bird. Animals aren't easy to work with when you're filming.

Lok a Jon's very first video abut Daikatana. Petty bad, isn't it? Now look at his most recent Work Safety Video. Pretty bd, isn't it?
WHAT IS THE LESSON HERE

Could be a possibility. He now uploads once a month.

>Why is a there such a strong correlation between a higher production value/budget and loss of SOUL

i dont know what the hell soul is, but i do know there is a definite correlation between a loss in quality and lower production values and budget

we all know that great, low budget movie that everyone loved
but its always its bigger, better paid for, sequel that truly shines much more (ESB vs ANH, prime example)

and lets not get started on how many zero-budget anything ,both games and movies, are 99% crap regardless of soul
for every cuphead, you get 99 other ninjabreadmen

>but its always its bigger, better paid for, sequel that truly shines much more (ESB vs ANH, prime example)
Now consider the sequel trilogy.

He's not video games anymore

As things get more expensive they have to shave off all the rough edges in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which reduces a work from individualist expression to mass-market sludge. It's the tragedy of capitalism that this is considered success.

because you have poor taste

he looks like he asks his wife to watch him get fucked by black guys

His new intro is so fucking soulless and over produced.
Yikes.

Because as you add more people to ANY project, you lose cohesion, in a very linear way. Jontron's videos went from 3 people productions to 10 and sometimes 20 people projects. Similarly to cinemassacre/AVGN.
too many cooks will spoil the stew.

That's not to say the content is bad, in either example, just that there's a notable difference in quality, production, in every facet. It also changes the way you look at problems when you have a larger crew. AVGN again, I point to. he totally lost control and functionality in how to edit and write his own content to a point it was some of the worst ever, some people think. Could also attribute it to a long break between making his 'normal' content. Whatever.

Point is you have a lot more hands fiddling with content, it's going to lose unique charm that one person may impart. It's very rare to find a game with a larger or even medium sized team that has a unique charm to it.
I'd recommend el-shaddai if you want to try one. The game itself is pretty mediocre beatemup but the aesthetic, the writing, sound design and artstyle are all very high quality.

SOULESS:
barely even having an intro anymore

fuck these intros are giving me flashbacks

I like the new intro

>As things get more expensive they have to shave off all the rough edges in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator

i used to believe hand-crafted goods with more soul were better than mass produced goods
but when my hand-carved wooden drawer, which looks good, suffers from unevenly sanded interior rails and less precise cutting and machining
i wish i kept my cheaper plastic IKEA drawer
all that "mass-production" which removed the rough edges and soul made it slide in and out very smoothly and without fail

those rough edges were removed for a reason
and it wasnt because they hated creativity, it was because they were objectively a bad design that had to be removed

we cant live in the days of poorly designed 90s menus and UIs or checkpoint starvation forever
we have to accept the fact that making life easier and less annoying is better

Not that I disagree with your point, necessarily, there's a difference in functional products for utility, and games which can be far more subjective. A bad interior rail that makes the drawer stick is shite, to everyone. Something that may seem "boring" or archaic to some folk (JRPGs as a whole, is a common point in this case) are beloved by others. Games and videos are pretty hard to objectively define or improve upon in cases like these.

jontron went from being an avgn ripoff to a nc ripoff

for some reason he thinks people prefer the latter.

Yeah well, your mom's also plastic, has things slide in and out without fail, and appeals to the lowest common denominator

did the bird die.

AVGN is an entirely different issue, some of the more recent ones are ONLY good because he got more help than usual

Jontron isn't video games.
He doesn't even talk about video games anymore. Too busy shilling for meme products.

Other people are doing almost all the work, and he's cut down from a crew of 8 people to 3. Himself, mike, and one of the three editors that rotate out (most of the time it's tony doing the edits, he's said as much on Yea Forums a few times)
He literally just acts now and has 0 input creatively, he's doing his own projects (that all suck)
