Haven't played him yet but how is Negan? I still don't get why he's in the game.

He's strong, manly, handsome, and even though he's a yakuza member, he's a really nice guy willing to help most anyone out of the kindness of his heart. His fighting styles/grabs/special attacks are all really unique and would fit like a glove in Tekken. He's a great 'straight man' for both the crime drama story, and the silly side quests and activities.

Tekken has got to have the absolute worst guest characters I've ever seen.

How easy is Negan to use? Is he viable?

He's pretty fun. He has good punishment going on, especially his i10 punish is godlike and i13 is very strong near the wall. He has pretty good range on his mids but his lows weren't that impressive from a range. You have to get in very close to use his non-generic lows. I think d+3 crushes highs a bit, but we'll have to wait for tekkenbot. Combo damage is alright. 60-70 something from both his 15 frame punishes without wall.
He apparently has a built-in low parry in his stance but I never got it to work. Not sure what's the mechanic there, also going into stance seems to be risky unlike Miguel.

Wonder who will be the guest for Season 3.

Because you spent 5 minutes trying their moves in practice mode instead of playing them against real opponents. Even characters with a lot of similar moves play completely different, like Kazuya and Heihachi.

Everyone needs to fight at close range and there's only so much variety you can do in that department.

His redemption story line on the TV show is similar to how it went down in the comics though.

Because there are no fundamental differences in their gameplay. 3D fighters have never reached the level of 2D fighters to this day, you're never going to see the kind of difference you see in 2D fighters of, say, a Zangief VS a Dhalsim, or a Faust VS a Chipp, because 3D fighters never give the tools necessary to create such gaps between fighting styles.

I will give credit where credit is due, Soul Calibur is the 3D series that came the closest to creating significant differences between gameplay styles, but it has stagnated and strayed away from that over the years. They've given too many options to the cast that homogenized them, which is a real problem with 3D fighters in general, they keep adding new moves to existing characters which give them options that they often shouldn't have, in order to keep their characters weaknesses and strengths intact. This results in every character being able to do everything, with only minor differences in how WELL they can do a given thing, whether it be rush down or block punishing.

They play mostly the same. Sure, there are a few differences, but ultimately the Tekken game of space, whiff/block punish, and pressure with safe pokes or 50/50s is the exact same, with minor variations depending on the specific movesets. None of them have a fundamentally different approach to the match, that conflict with one another the way that, for example, a grapplers playstyle in a 2D fighter conflicts with a zoners playstyle. They are not trying to do two completely different things, they are both trying to do the exact same thing, in slightly different ways.

Tekken 7 is the newest game in the tekken the series to date, and more of the same. The "who-can-get-their-super-move-off-first" gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 7 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Dragonball and NRS games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
