Tfw Let's Go innovated more than Gen 8

The Good
>Possibly the best Pokemon main themes in years
>All three starters are likeable characters, most people seem to know which they're going with
>UK setting is used well, various landmarks present
>British sports will become a key part of gym battles in some form
>Pokemon from various gens present

The Bad
>No overworld pokemon, random encounters
>Upscaled 3DS graphics, barely above Let's Go
>15 fps
>Linear game map

Anybody else slightly disappointed, but still getting it? I need Scorbunny and Sobble.

Attached: pokemon sword and shield.jpg (1280x720, 149K)

I'm not getting it unless it's on par with the best Pokémon games we've had so far. Tired of buying Gamefreak's mediocre trash. That being said, Masuda and Ohmori are producing and directing, so it's probably going to be average at best anyway.

>The Bad
>>No overworld pokemon, random encounters
kys gofag

The fuck you talking about.

All 3 starters suck ass. Samey and boring. Worst starters in pokemon history.

Holy shit. It's like there's pokemon board for millions of pokemon threads.

I'm gonna pirate it early like I did with SM.

Looks like the worse pokemon game to date but it's basically the only real Switch pokemon game at this point. GF is smart to put out their weak garbage since it'll sell regardless as the first real Switch title.

No overworld Pokemon has completely killed any hype of this game for me. That's such a misstep on their par6

We virtually know nothing about the game though. It might innovate in some other ways.

You better fucking pick me you cock-eyed slag

I hate all the starters what are u taking about Where is Mupkid reincarnate

>All three starters are likeable characters, most people seem to know which they're going with
The starters are awful, but I wasn't really expecting them to be good. Gen 1 is the only Gen where all 3 starters are likeable.

Don't be ridiculous, the graphics are leaps and bounds above those of Let's Go. The environments and characters are much more complex and detailed, there are actual textures and the camera is way more dynamic.

Attached: Pokemon SS_LGPE.jpg (1920x2160, 2.34M)

>>Possibly the best Pokemon main themes in years
>they're all kawaii uguu designs with round blob heads and round features

how about adding 50% price increase as bad

>water starter is so deformed people though he was a tadpole instead of a chameleon
Its gonna be great.

i thought he was a newt, but looking at the hands its obvious now. howd they fuck the eyes so bad.

Omg, green chimchar, wide eyed mudkip, and off colored plusle, best starters ever

Not buying this trash unless it ends up being the hardest pokemon game ever. Which it won't be so fuick it.

Random encounters are a good thing. It isn't the best for every type of game but it is perfect for Pokemon. The framerate still has time to improve, the game won't come out until November or December, but of course this is GameFreak so you can't exactly count on it.

bruh. look at this dude.

Attached: 1.png (229x187, 75K)

I'm fine with no overworld pokemon if they have a system for finding the mon you actually want to find.
Rolling dice until you get the result you want isn't skillful or fun.
Also I know this isn't gonna happen, but replacing RNG catching with some kind of minigame would be a huge improvement.
Like the harder to catch the Pokemon is, the harder the minigame will be. Weakening/Status effecting the minigame somehow. I'm just sick of how many just roll the die until it works shit these games have.

>Random encounters are a good thing. It isn't the best for every type of game but it is perfect for Pokemon.
Why?

no random encounters? you can't be serious. I didn't watch the trailers or look deeply into the reveal but keep that bull shit in the lets go spin offs, not main line. such a new shitty norm

On top of having shit taste, you can't read.

because pokemon is an rpg, which requires multitudes of battles historically. Random battles pace these battles at a set rate without the player feeling obligated to seek them out. If all battles were manual youd resent having to manually trigger them as you sit there evaluating each fight you see.
It puts an additional pressure on your resources, Pokemon health, PP for moves, and items all require management and risk evaluation before pushing through an area where you could have more or fewer encounters than expected.

YEA BUT WILL THERE BE COUCH CO-OP AGAIN

>no overworld Pokémon, random encounters

the way in which this sentence is constructed is ambiguous at best. comma splicing is never the move.

Yeah I'm gunna have to agree with this. I don't really see any that I'm wanting to use. Might be the first starter I release.

>Random encounters are a good thing. It isn't the best for every type of game but it is perfect for Pokemon.
I sure love spending 30 minutes walking through the same patch of grass, sitting through the same battle transition and grass cutscene, until the pokemon with a 1% encounter rate decides to show up.

Attached: she can just rescue herself.jpg (300x317, 33K)

There's no reason to innovate if the new thing is worse than the old.

>No overworld pokemon, random encounters
Good, fuck the way it's done in Go. Try and remember going through Mt. Moon as a kid and how hard it could actually be if you didn't catch the right things first. Now imagine it just running past everything you know you don't have a super effective move for. I wouldn't be against them adding swarms or radar or something like that again but fuck EVERYTHING being shown.

Releasing your starter and mystery trading your team is the true way to play the games to be honest.

>4 rattata team

If the battles are fun then I'd have no problem taking a minor detour to engage in one.
>It puts an additional pressure on your resources, Pokemon health, PP for moves, and items all require management and risk evaluation before pushing through an area where you could have more or fewer encounters than expected.
I think you might be overestimating the amount of pressure basic resource management puts on the player considering you can just run away without much trouble.
The only jrpg series that I can think of right now where random encounters put pressure on the player are Etrian Odyssey and SMT and that's because enemies are actual threats in those games.

Overcome the challenge user. It's a lot better after 2/3 weeks you can end up with some interesting stuff people have been breeding and thrown the rest onto mystery trade.

this user raises an additional point
choosing to just avoid fights that dont suit you removes a huge factor of the design of pokemon, some type combinations will just outclass you. If you could just walk around them every player will.

MAKE

problem solved

next game we'll have a fire cow/sheep/snake etc

>not editing Torchic's head on top

There'd be no point having aggro if they don't move faster than you. Just look at something like Persona (I assume this is kind of what you mean), you can just circle round everything. And in that case you may as well make it random.

That fire starter is fucking gross
Get that divegrass shit out of my fucking face

It's almost like any regular old jrpg solved this issue fifteen years ago.

>Generic genki starter no. 5783564
>Appeal to impressionable manchild

Stick monkey is better

gen 1/2
>hard to pick starter because all of them are awesome
gen 3/4/5/6/7/8
>hard to pick starter because they all suck and look like cheap knock-offs

Retard.

Team Scorbunny for the win
Sorry guys, but Grookey's mouth looks like a beak and at first glance I couldn't understand what Sobble was supposed to mean.

I mean, Scorbunny has the type of eyes you see in a LOT of Pokèmon. That was hella recognizable.

Have fun with your bait
Based Grookeybros will get their epic buff taiko drummer while you get a waifumon

crap i mean furry bait
forgot the word filter

>taiko drummer

>in england

Attached: 1551358545651.jpg (2000x834, 626K)

And this time there won't be poorly excuses of pokemons. Fucking sun and moon with their bullshit alolan forms. They just wanted to limit the amount of new pokemons they had to make

>panda
>in France

Attached: 1380300580631.png (340x311, 35K)

This man. In sun and moon i just put my pokemon in the box and used other pokemons.

Apart from the bunny, those are some dope ass evo's.

The primary reason I'm okay with them removing visible overworld encounters is because the way it was done in Let's Go was lifeless as fuck. With random encounters there's a level of abstraction in play when it comes to encountering a pokemon, but all the pokemon in LGPE just wandering around absolutely braindead like props looked incredibly fake. If they want to have pokemon visible, they need to fit into their environment to some extent, and I don't trust Gamefreak to ever have that kind of competence, so I'd prefer they just stick with random encounters because there isn't really anything wrong with them.

the bottom looks nicer though. Less jaggies.

This nigga would rather be stuck in the 90s than live in the days of modern RPG design. Go kill your self

random encounters are good though otherwise you can just run past everything like in DQXI

Am I disappointed? Yes. But I'm still thinking about getting it. Normally I'm trying to go for quality over quantity, but let's face it, Pokemon is never gonna get any better.

Imagine if you did a mix of both.

ORAS did that.

Even if it was competent, it would be so scripted the illusion of them being anything other than props would fall off pretty quick. Thinking of something like Pokemon Snap, it looks cool the first time or two but after that you know what to expect.

Is this game still using the lets go catching mechanism?

If so, not buying it.

Is this the first evolution? Do we know what the second one looks like?

No. The first things they did in the trailer were show a trainer randomly encounter a pokemon in tall grass, throw out their own pokemon to battle the wild one, and catch it like in a normal game. I think they know that a large number of people hate the Let's Go system.

That's speculative fanart, we won't be seeing evolutions (officially) for a few months.

Ohmori is directing again so it's going to be piss easy, linear and handholdy as fuck with minimal post game content

Attached: 1548644838754.jpg (245x295, 29K)

It's almost like it's a game for children or something

>fire bunny has a band-aid on its nose
It's going to be another fire/fighting, isn't it

Attached: Lute_stare.png (310x315, 206K)

I guess difficulty settings and an option to skip tutorials is too much?

very original

It's going to be an Incineroar situation where it's got a fire/fighting design but the secondary typing is something else

Incineroar only became a wrestler on his last Evo, the two prior didn't even foreshadow that part (hence why so many are pissed at it), and he is a cocky heel so being /Dark makes sense. That Ape starter and Torchic got fighter features in their first Evo, and this one has the band-aid/clip on nose thingy going on, which means he is athletic.

Fire/Fighter.

Attached: plushes.jpg (695x276, 19K)

Scorbunny is basically football/soccer themed. I don't see it being anything other than Fighting or possibly Electric.

They are back to the formula of basic animals
>gen one
> salamander, turtle , dinossaur

this gen
> bunny dinossaur monkey

Is the best starters since snake, pig and dinossaur

The game isn't out yet.

>No overworld pokemon, random encounters
It's a good thing, dude.

Flying.

>gen 1
>dinosaur
Only in the localization.

For the scale of this game I agree, but preferably it would be large scale enough to make overworld Pokemon look natural

Why flying?

Sky high jumps.
I guess?

are mega evolutions still a thing in the series? those were kinda weird

I just spent like an hour making this image so I'll post it here.

Attached: Pokemon Soul Soulless.png (1280x720, 712K)

Dropped after one gen and then replaced by a different gimmick.
Now it sticks out like a sore thumb because they didn't have the gut to commit to it properly.

This. Same with Z Moves. There'll be something new this gen

>asking for difficulty in the fisher-price of handheld games

/vp/ really are manchildren and probably pedophiles too

It looks like fuckin PS2 Dragon quest with slightly better lighting.

Attached: file.png (456x258, 268K)

Top looks awful

Literally a 3DS game

>>No overworld pokemon, random encounters
I hope there will be a snorlax or two or something, but that seeing them in the grass shit was fucking awful.

First of all
>dinossaur
Second
>otter = “dinossaur”
How dumb are you?

Maybe it will be /water then
because of all the diving

>tfw Let's Go innovated more than Gen 8
Stopped reading right there. Kill yourself LGBTard.

>otter
user?

Considering how many people want start with and fuck the rabbit, you're dead wrong on that one.

>frog
>dinosaur

>lizard
>dinosaur

>otter
>dinosaur

The real best starters are gen 2 anyway. I love the dinosaur, dinosaur and dinosaur.

The camera is still fixed and yet they didn't even make sure the billboarded grass textures were at a good angle.
That's a rookie move I'd expect from an indie dev.

Gen 2 is a pear, quil and a fucking kaijyu.

Here are the typings if anyone is interested

>Fire/Normal
>Grass/Rock
>Water/Psychic

Treeko and Mudkip were great, the fire chicken sucked though.

>The Bad
>..., random encounters

Fuck you fag, I would breed that bunny for a shiny.

Oh, and the gimmick of armored evolutions isn't a thing.

the only thing i hate is the fact a starter pokemon has bunny in his name, fucking lazy

@452711275
Source: my ass
The [you] council has decided not to give {you} any.

You'll find out in July, I guess

That comparison is not fair at all you piece of shit and you know it. First of all, DQ8 was for the PS2 whereas this new Pokemon game is on the Switch. You know that the difference in hardware power is fucking huge here.

>July
Source: my ass.

>late 2019
>July
heh

they solved it like 30 years ago by using random encounters. Tales style world map encounters is just a different style, not a superior one. EO still has the best random encounter system though.

It's football based.

>inb4 fire fairy to take jabs at soccer being a sissy sport

>Chameleon
>A Dinosaur
Literally what

Ok so why does a Switch game look like a PS2 game "remastered" onto PS3?

>We have seen 2 minutes of the new Gen
>IT FUCKING SUCKS THERE IS NO INOVATION WHY WONT POKEMON FOLLOW ME AND WHY CAN'T I SEE ALL THE POKEMON IN THE MAP ?
You guys know there's >900 pokemon right?

We better not have a fixed fucking camera

All it takes is a walking animation which all old mons already have.
It's not even a matter of whether it's possible but whether they use the existing assets to implement a highly requested feature.

>otter = dinosaur
nigga wut

The walking and running cycle animations already exist for ALL Pokémon up to gen 7, user.
Every single one.
LGPE has the functionality of Pokémon following you built in. All it takes is literally copy/paste the code and make animations for the ~60 new pokemon this gen'll undoubtedly have..

I'm half convinced GameFreaks is running bitcoin miners in the background of their games. How else can they look like PS2 games yet cripple whatever hardware they are on?

Just wait for Super Sword and Super Shield.

Sorry little dude, but music monkey is gonna be my pick. But hey, that means my rival will pick you

At this point I just feel bad for the Pokémon designers. It must be absolute hell trying to come up with new ideas for Pokémon and to keep them coming out every couple years. We’re at what, close to or past a thousand now?

>complaining about fps and textures in unfinished game footage that hasn't been fully optimized yet
>Complaining about the map being linear when the game hasn't even been played, judging this solely from concept art

It's too early senpai. Wait for E3 to pass judgement, then you can see if the game still runs like shit during the treehouse presentation.

Bottom genuinely looks better.
It's crisp, top is jagged and scuffed

That's a really big >implication you got there, user.

>All three starters are likeable characters, most people seem to know which they're going with
No, all of them looks like shit.
>UK setting is used well, various landmarks present
No, the region looks the most boring shit I have ever seen.

There is literally nothing I like about what was revealed so far.

Kalos was definitely more boring than this region

>being this retarded

He was making a joke user saying the ps3 is more powerful than the switch.

>No overworld pokemon, random encounters

Pokemon in overworld isn't objectively better

>Upscaled 3DS graphics, barely above Let's Go

Sure, nigger

>15 fps

Seems to be 30 fps, but knowing gamefreak, I've come to expect 15

>Linear game map

You can fuck off now

>modern RPG design

Attached: 911 I think Im being trolled.jpg (700x700, 120K)

I’m definitely getting it. I had this thought that with it being UK based the gym system, will be replaced with a World Cup or Euro League system. Basically you’ll have 8 qualifying matches in different towns while on your journey. The elite 4 will be replaced with the actual tournament and the winner of the tourney faces the champion. Would be a cool idea I think. Seems likely since they did away with gyms in Sun & Moon.

Gyms are confirmed, though.

These are fuckin great

this is the most retarded post I've ever seen in my entire 27 years of living

Mega Evolutions still exist and are fully supported in more recent games. Let's Go even had them despite being back-to-basics in most other mechanical ways. However new Mega-Evolutions have not been added outside of Generation 6.

Some people assume the concept has been dropped and is only being supported out of necessity because they don't want to drop mechanics or forms.

Worth adding, Game Freak seemed to actively go out of their way to give the Megas oddly edgy and dark Pokedex entries in Gen 7 that actively went against the original lore of the mechanic. Mega Evolution was originally supposed to be a supercharge of energy brought on by the bond between trainer and Pokemon, but various Pokedex entries in Gen 7 for the megas essentially make it out to be that the Pokemons bodies or even minds are straight fucked up by a raw surge of energy going through their body.

Gengar goes from prankster to a mindless killer that doesn't understand partnership, Alakazam gets muscle atrophy because all of its power goes to its mind, Aerodactyl is said to be an extreme pain from the rock spikes its body grows, Garchomps literally have their arms melt and they get angry due to the pain, and Kangaskhan causes the child to be able to fight, but since all it does is fight, the "mother becomes uneasy about its future".

Yes, really.

Attached: 1480594216355.png (720x1310, 290K)

The artist somehow managed to do zero (0) interesting things with their design and how their themes evolved, I'm impressed

>Now imagine it just running past everything you know you don't have a super effective move for.
Did you think about this even a little bit before you typed it out? They could just do like in Earthbound. You know, that game developed by Ape inc, which is now Creatures inc. You can't just easily avoid everything in that game.

>Pokemon either run straight towards you at speeds you can't hope to avoid
>Or they flee from you equally quickly when you want to catch them
No fucking thanks

And? If a player wants to run past everything they should be able to. The only difference having random encounters does is force the player to waste about 15 seconds every 10 steps to run from battles. Either that or buy an item.

It's garbage padding.

And they can. Routes in Gen 7 almost never had tall grass in their main path and in caves you can just pop these.

Attached: pokemon-repel[1].png (295x436, 96K)

Imagine thinking any of the gen 2 starters outside Feraligatr alone are "awesome".

You replied to the wrong post retard

Well, there goes my bright idea

Yes, I'm sure using systems from the last century is a good idea.

It still bothers me that nidoran and nidorino male and female are considered separate species

Of course it did, the whole point of Go was to innovate and they HAD to promise to make the next "real entry" as safe as possible to placate people freaking over it, the actual test will be if this does better or worse, if it does worse Go gonna be the future.

Attached: Dawn the Newfag.gif (285x864, 78K)

And you just wasted a fraction of your life making it because I doubt anyone will even post it because of this retarded soul/soulless meme.

I'm really sad there don't appear to be following Pokemon at this time. I really hope they reveal that later.

Zelda Cycle is real

There's a couple of things from Let's Go that I wish got ported over. Like following and ridable Pokemon, and having them appear in the overworld instead of randomly.

Even then, this is roughly what I expected.

>British "sports"

Oh fuck no I'd rather watch American women sports than that shit.

a pokemon getting older is a separate species too

for some reason pokemon Birmingham and London are filled with electrodes.

Jack the Ripper Pokémon?

>Pokemon Let's Go had the worst gameplay in the franchise and introduced gameplay problems that not even fucking Gen 1 and 2 had
>literally no new areas and almost no new content
>one of the worst "rivals" in the franchise on par with the shitters of the 3DS games
>gets all sorts of free passes on being the biggest piece of shit ever

>Of course it did, the whole point of Go was to innovate
But the only "innovation" Go had was the overworld Pokemon. Everything else was shitty mobile mechanics like candies and waggle catching.
