Boy oh boy I can't wait to replay these consoles 20 years from now!

Boy oh boy I can't wait to replay these consoles 20 years from now!
Ohno wait it's been 20 years and I've lost my console and some games, oh well I'll rebuy them and the games I've missed then I can play them for old times sake!
Wait...the servers are dead...well that's okay these are singleplayer games....wait I can't play them, the disc didn't have the full game, so I can't play the entire game if at all.

So tell me fuckers, how do we prevent this because this WILL happen.
All these games you love won't be playable 20 years from now when the servers are down, even if you went physical only.
The last gen was fine because the very least you'll be missing is QOL patches.
But this gen? A shit ton of Games needed to be downloaded despite the physical aspect.
I haven't seen this discussed at all during the lifespan of this generation and now that it's pretty much over (what with Micro and Sony announcing they are working on the next gen consoles and the rumours going around that it could be as early as next year)

Can't do anything about it. Same for PC games that don't run on new OS/hardware. All is lost eventually.

Also, Steam will die and gaben will break his promise.

Ask developers to implement peer-to-peer, LAN, or offline versions of their games. In the future, you can just send someone an image of your hard drive with all the updates. Someone can then put their disc in and it will work

People only play old games to be contrarian. Truly timeless classics will continue to get ports, just like movies. The Godfather will be released on every new film format, Super Mario Bros will be released on every new nintendo console.

I haven't patched or downloaded anything for any game because i'm offline on consoles and every game works fine that i've tried.
i know there are shit like spyro where you have to download partion of the game. but that's 0.1% of games where it's needed.

>putting Switch in that crowd
Retard

Like now, you won't be playing 20 year old games, and it will be a non issue, because some autist qill preserve the games

Simple: pirate and emulate

No, user. The games that sell well will continue to be ported. Sales=/=quality
>Dream Tank Match on Switch requires an update to run

Digital IS the future, you just have to make sure there isn't DRM attached to it. Notice how every "you don't own your games" argument only applies to games that force the steam API or Epic store API on you. if you bought a game off of GOG, it's yours forever. Just gotta back it up on a USB, and then you can play it anywhere, back it up infinitely, and have absolutely zero worry of someone taking it.

DRM is the real problem here. It's an artificial limitation based on greed.

The good news is half the libraries of those consoles consists of remakes and remasters of old games anyway.

Switch is the only current gen console in your picture, OP. Whatever the other two put out next won't be next gen, it's them catching up.

>not using DRM-free PC games that you can download and store on media forever
And this is why consoles are DEAD, DEAD, DEAD.

Your whole argument falls apart when you say you lost your console. If you care enough about preserving games you would take care of your consoles and keep maintenance on them. It's also why you buy games and if there is a game that doesn't have the full game on disc at some point after DLCs then it is shit

I dont buy any digital shit if I can help it.

What happens when EPIC Store kills Steam?

I don't think PS3/360 need to ever shut down their online? Maybe premium would be shut down but why not keep that running as long as they can? They have the money to do it. At the very least you should always be able to patch a game.

Nothing of value will be lost because fuck Steam DRM, and Epic Store will die soon thereafter because NOGAMES.

I mean OG XBOX is almost 20 years old and you can play a number of games on the XBOX One and there are some gamertags from the OG XBOX still around

fucking this

videogames is the only form of entrateinment were the consumers are completely retarded and accept anything.

imagine this shit in movies.
imagine this shit in music.
imagine this shit in books.

pc is a little more safe since there will always be pirates keeping alive the game data but that's not a fucking official solution.

Thanks Valve and everyone that refused to boycott Valve into bankruptcy when they launched Steam! Praise le Gaben, am I right?

yeah it's not like we lost a shitton of important classic books when medieval monks "ported" only the shit they tought it was important to port.

most brainlet post ever

That's good to hear then.
What? There are games that require downloads before playing.
You may not have lost it, maybe you sold it, maybe it got stolen, broken, the HDD died, anything could happen.

>videogames is the only form of entrateinment were the consumers are completely retarded and accept anything.
Because as much as you all want to deny it, vidya is mainly for children. Accept it. The only other time this sort of stupidity reigns is with merch for kids' movies and cartoons. You know what the common factor is.

well that is true for sure but now in the ps4 era the amount of adults playing is the biggest ever.

i mean the ps1 2 and before era was the period with the most kids but also with the least bullshit.

why now with an audience grown up we see more of this bullshit and not less?

Emulation and hamachi

PC has a workaround for basically every single piece of software
Even if you go back far enough that the hardware is incompatible there are emulators for them that can literally run in your browser or VMs that run on toasters

I've gone fully digital on switch but I also make a point of pirating every digital game I buy so that when shitendo eventually shut down their servers I can slap homebrew on the machine and play the pirated roms
Same deal for PC, except half the time I just play the pirated version instead
I'm a believer in paying someone for their work, but I won't put up with the DRM and infosec issues without having a backup
If a ubishit game hasn't been pirated, I won't buy it

P2P is dead. Zoomer are too stupid to torrent.

GoG is the same as the rest, you only get a download license, which is why I pirate GoG installers with no remorse the same as the rest. Paying for a download cannot be justified. Give me a DRM free physical copy or I will pirate.

>Digital IS the future
Because you people refuse to boycott
That doesn't make sense, just pirate without paying if you don't care about physical copies.

I have disposable income, I want to pay people for their work if they create a good game
for awhile I was trying to pirate and then paypal money to devs but that's impossible outside of indieshits

It comes down to this: there are people who care about videogames as a culture, and those who see them as disposable entertainment. One wants freedom of ownership, the other doesn't care. It's that simple.

I think most physical Switch games work without internet.

Modern games aren’t meant to be played for longer than 6 months.

You can use any Os you want, also you can emulate whathever piece of hardrawer you want, pc games are theoricly inmortal.

I think Nintendo Switch lets you pass out updates system to system. Not positive but I feel like I've read that somewhere.

I could pay full price for every game I play, but I truly care so I don't give them money, I am not going to financially reward the destruction of gaming. I would still not give them money even if I were a billionaire.
The developers are already paid by the company they work for unless they are indie developers that only get money from people giving them money, in that case they are speculators.

The moment when steam will fell intimidade will be the moment when half live 3 be released, valve has a lot of bullets to defend the throne of pc launcher.

>how do we prevent this because this WILL happen
create an archive if you feel so strongly about it.
update it as the games update, keep backups of pre-update files incase the update guts the game somehow (GTA removing songs, etc)
it's not hard to pull game data from a consoles HDD, and on PC it's even easier.
if you're so worried, do something about it instead of shitposting like a faggot

Hamachi sucks, I miss Tuungle

"History" is a Jewish construct, written by the Jesuits. Jesus was crucified at constantinople (troy) around 1700 "ad", humans have existed less than 800 years.

Any game worth a shit is gonna be "remastered" every 5 years or so, so what's the problem?

Don't worry, when quantum computers solve the prime integer factorisation problem, RSA will be broken and every game up until now will be 'cracked'.

If they hadn't, there would be NOTHING, ungrateful cunt.

>how do we prevent this
you can't. it was planned from the start for these corporations to be able to repeatedly re-sell you the old games in "retro" first-party emulation form, or through their eshops, etc.

If you're worried about the companies themselves somehow going the way of the dodo, I wouldn't. most of these corporations have been around since long before you were born, and the chance that you'll outlive them is very slim.

look out boys, we're in the presence of the enlightened.

Attached: (you).jpg (1024x768, 178K)

At that point only kids will be allowed to play videogames without nuking their social credit score anyway.

>So tell me fuckers, how do we prevent this because this WILL happen.

There is this thing called piracy. It already happened with the Wii and the only way to play games is to pirate them which is an option.

I want to say everything in the past years will be worthless but if he do go all digital and they decide to wipe a game off the face of the earth it will be the only option.

Contribute to emulation. This is the official goal of most people working on emulators (though we all know piracy is the only reason the average person cares about them). Some games are already lost to time because of shitty emu devs. Zeromus set Wi-Fi DS emulation on Desmume back by years for example and much of DSiWare is lost forever as a result.

pirate then use emulators after making love to my sexy lolibot
