The male is usually more bland than the female. Some games with dialogue options actually even take the extra step and make the female's options have more personality, or else have the voice be more emotive.
I don't know why games do this, but they do.
Mass Effect, Persona 3, and Fallout 4 are just three random games I can pull out of my ass that I feel this way about. Persona 3 has the advantage of completely different dialogue choices and re-done relationships with people, but even Mass Effect and Fallout 4, which have 99% the exact same lines, to my knowledge, are deliveredcompletely differently in the male and female voice overs, to the point that once you get used to the energy and emotion and intonation and shit of the female, the male one just sounds like a fucking robot.

I have no problem playing males and I do so most of the time.
