NOT THE ORIGINAL OP BUT REPOSTING THIS THREAD ANYWAY. EVERYTHING SAID BELOW ISN'T ME. Just toss ideas around for now.
Lets create a game Yea Forums, a Yea Forums themed fighting game. Previous thread devolved into an autistic circlejerk about nu-Yea Forums memes and how horrible they are. For that reason the game will now focus on a roster of board tans, no pepes and wojaks (for now). I'm using the Godot engine for this game, github can be found here: github.com/NEET-FEET/That-Fight-When the game will be fully open source and multiplatform.
>HOW CAN I HELP??? Depends on your skills. >drawfag We need sprites, turn your favorite board tan into a sprite and I'll add it in the game. We haven't settled on an art direction, but I think anime looking sprites will be good. A standing, walking and punshing sprite is all that's needed for now, look at classic fighting games like Street Fighter sprites for inspiration. >/g/ fag You can clone the source code and help me out with the code, I'm thinking about mainly sticking with GDscript because it's high level and optimized for node based game design offered in the Godot engine. >normalfag Ideas, jokes and shitposts. Post whatever comes to mind in this thread, highly welcome are ideas pertaining movesets, gameplay, story, different gamemodes, setting, etc, etc.
As one of the former devs from PHM, let me just say that this will never work. Unless you have money to pay animators/programmers, this shit will never happen. I'd love to see it happen, believe me. I miss my old PHM crew. I had so much fun working on that, but the game cannot and will not happen on hotpocket promises alone. So either save up and pay some /adgd/bois or give up.
Exactly what you'd expect. Lots of ideas, no money. We had some artists/voice actors, a programmer etc. Basically everything we needed to make it happen...except money. Nobody wanted to put in all that effort for zero chance at being compensated for it. Plus, considering Yea Forums's reputation, it wouldn't exactly have been a great chance for exposure. So, like I said, without money this project is doomed to the same fate. We're not mods. We don't do it for free.
A shame, but I don't blame you. Passion can only go so far. Without a good motivator, then it's likely to just sink into the mud.
Jaxson Reed
how about if we ask hiro for money were advertising his site anyways so consider this marketing expenses
Jeremiah Harris
In our defense, we got further than a lot of people expected we would. We had a playable pre-alpha, tons of dialogue, some art, a story and lots of designs. I don't regret any of it, I just wish one of us was some kind of secret millionaire so it could've been funded.
By the way, if that "multiplatform" comment isn't just a shitpost, then whoever is behind this is fucking kidding themselves. >Hiro >won't even pay his taxes to the Japanese government >giving money to something that won't return his investment Keep dreaming, user.
Crowd game dev totally can be done for free if there's enough interest. Look at Space Station 13. It's just tricky to get the ball rolling
Lucas Myers
It can, yes, but it is incredibly rare and difficult. It's not just interest, it's actually luck for a large portion of it. The right people need to see it and be in the right place in life to be able/willing to help. It happens, yes, but not often. For ever success story, there's a hundred BroQuests and PHMs.
I guess. I will admit that had SS13 not already been a playable game when I found it, I likely wouldn't have had any interest in coding for it like I have. Getting over the "playable" hump would probably be a really big obstacle for a brand new project like this.
Yea Forumslette (a Yea Forums OC waifu made form various parts of Yea Forums memes) and /trv/ I think. Or maybe something else. I can't recall. It wasn't a fighting game, like a lot of people thought. It was going to be a beat-em-up. The story was about Yea Forums and moot suddenly vanished, each board represented by it's tans. Yea Forums would've had to travel through various parts of the internet (ebaums, for example) to rescue his fellow board-tans. It would've split into groups, with Yea Forums, Yea Forums and Yea Forums being one and others grouping up, all to eventually defeat Cancer King and save the site.
Guy in the middle is Old Man Henderson of /tg/ infamy.
Eli Lopez
Feels fucking weird to see this posted, I was the guy who programmed the gif you posted. The time flies man. I was in school at the time, I've been working in games for years now. Hope you other anons are doing well, too
Kayden Ward
For me, my Yotsuba A board-tans are [s4s]-tan, /pol/-tan, /i/-tan and /e/-tan
Logan Wilson
I was the VA director, if you remember me. Working on games myself, as well as doing some VA work myself. Glad to see you again, though bruh. Hope you're doing well. I still have as much of the game's assets/concept work as I could grab. Every board was in some capacity, but not all of them playable.
I added that duke guy (VA) on steam at some point, we played a game of pubg and his friend shot me, so I shot Duke thinking they wanted to end the round or something, then he removed me from steam without saying anything. Haven't heard from anyone else from phm since.
Oliver Lewis
Tell me about it, I had no fucking idea what I was doing voice-wise.
Good times, me lad. Yeah, I don't use Skype anymore, so I don't know anyone from it.
>I shot Duke thinking they wanted to end the round or something I mean, isn't there voice chat or something where you could confirm that was the case?
Mason Barnes
Okay I'll be honest, I don't mind having feels guy (or wojak) in the game, it is true that he is very Yea Forums related. Just don't make him the fucking poster child. What I reckon would be pretty silly and fun is if he has a ridiculous amount of alt skins compared to every other fighter and it's just all the different variants and edits.
Elijah Long
He's in *chan for good.
Carter Baker
i dug a little bit in an old hard drive, look at what i just found lol
Because we were all young and retarded and didn't know what we were doing, that's why. Go for it, zip them up and make a mega. I'll download it to fill the gaps I have for sure.
We had a shitton of concept art, actually. /cgl/ was one of my faves, because I helped design her. She was going to have three "forms", hambeast, actually cute and hoverloli. (Not pictured.)
alright boys. i went ahead and put it on the 4craft archive site. can download it anytime. i dont think it has the gamemaker project in it, although i do have that still too. i'll let that die though, its not worth preserving
The data hoarder in me says to upload the project file too but thanks a ton for this
Jace Foster
But I'm too busy working on my own game already
Aaron Lewis
>download speed is 36mbp >only downloading 150kb/s Is it me or 4craft
Zachary Cruz
I actually really like fighting game design and would really like helping out with the design of the specific mechanics if something actually gets organized
Gabriel King
No, it's 4craft being shit. Someone probably forgot to feed the hamsters.
Dominic Wilson
>the game will be fully open source Please just make a functioning fighting engine first then, and make sure the fighter creation isn't as unwieldy as MUGEN
Jacob Myers
Ah, cool. I live in australia and our neighbourhood only just got fast download speeds months ago. >NBN
Elijah Harris
its running on a rasberry pi in my bedroom. my gf is playing smash and she started complaining about lag the literal second i posted the archive link haha
Carson Murphy
This. mugen is an unstable mess. no other decent fighting engine exists. make a solid engine in gamemaker or something first and then you can focus on actually making a full fighting game.
Matthew Mitchell
>drawfag seems like a really cool project, I would love to join but making all the sprites animation, even for one character is pretty taxing and I don't want to disappear and disappoint all the anons here. I am conflicted.
Dylan Reed
Make Doctor Piccolo a fighter
Evan Campbell
Why this will never work: >no organization means work will never get completed >half of the appeal of fighting games are the character designs and unique fighting styles, which the tans can't uphold as well as a game like guilty gear >plethora of fighting games are out or coming out soon, why would someone play this over one with extremely high polish like that? >large majority of Yea Forums doesn't play or understand fighting games beyond a surface level >no money or obligations I strongly suggest the people thinking of helping with this either come up with solutions for all of these before helping or to just not get your hopes up to only end up wasting your time and energy
/vp/ got some shit done. Then again, the devs all became discord faggots.
Caleb Green
that works
Jose Morris
some people are good at animation but not rendered art & vice versa. so some would do animation roughs and others would be on clean up. I can do both. in this type of project I'd do a bunch of animation roughs. get others to clean up and colour them. then i'd clean up their cleanup if they did a shit job. with lots of people it would be easier but only if you have a few competent artists working hard at the head making sure the quality is there for every animation.
Parker Ramirez
What, did Yea Forums have a rage meter instead of a health bar?
How about instead of fighting game we make something smaller? It would increase the chances of it being completed.
Charles Peterson
There's one real game out there with board-tans and that's Pokemon Clover, you can play as Viol or Keksandra, but you should always play as Viol, because you can enjoy Keksandra's retard-dialogue
Ian Sanders
VN is the least effort we can do but katawa shoujo already exist.
Jayden Hall
2d side-scrolling brawler
Jaxon Harris
we need a key artist to base the artstyle first
William Reed
>ideas guy the thread
this is not going to work
Chase Anderson
I vote shadman
Logan Ortiz
I don't even think the original OP was serious.
Jose Adams
We were in voice chat, but it happened so fast I guess. I got immediately kicked and blocked before I realized what really happened. Never heard back from him ;-;
Benjamin Scott
How about we get Camerupts permission to put some Clover references in the game, like /vp/-tan can use Clovermons as their attacks and we could make a town or route from it one of the stages
Elijah Miller
>PHM FUCK, how long has it been? Tried looking stuff up about it a while ago and could'nt find jack. Glad to know all the devs didnt kill themselves
But is there a jannie that's basically the hercule of this game?
Jayden Adams
bump
Lincoln Ward
Yea Forums, Yea Forums, /x/, /d/, and Yea Forums are the most recogniceable IMO
Evan Myers
slow thread
Isaac Long
i guess project is dead
Connor Jackson
Visual Novels are literally just interactive powerpoint presentations with softcore porn. So yeah, you could absolutely get that done. I wouldn't call it a game though.
Blake Murphy
it had a good run
Kayden Evans
ive never seen these before, whos supposed to be who i only recognize the typical green user in the back
Caleb Hughes
Make a Cart Racer.
Yes it would require 3d modeling, 3 animating, 3d level making, and tons of scripting. However character differences would all just be stat differences instead of hundreds of unique moves, and unlike fighting games Kart Racers are dumb fun that can be enjoyed by everyone rather than a handful of autismos.
All these 2d games are probably easy to make, but holy fuck you're just gonna be another shitty 2d sprites indie game studio if you do that. Make a real goddamn game in 3d you massive homosexuals.
Isaac Long
lel why the fuck would you wanna include the cgl/lolcow roasties. Are you actually one of them or just an orbiter?
Xavier Evans
They frequently change their designs and most people don't bother following those, so it's okay.
I only recognize Yea Forums, Yea Forums and Yea Forums anyway.
Hunter Thompson
its pretty obvious which one is /lgbt/
Levi Harris
You can tell some of them by their design, but I only counted those whose designs I actually saw before and remember them looking like that.
Ryder Moore
Yea Forums, /x/, and /d/ are the only ones I recognize. I can assume who /toy/ and /t/ are, but the rest are beyond me. And who the fuck is the fat furry?
Oliver Baker
>And who the fuck is the fat furry? /trash/
Tyler Anderson
/pol/ should be in.
Lucas Garcia
how about you make it work instead of complaining you complete jackass
Andrew Cox
he is right
Lucas Moore
how about you suck tranny dick instead of opening your mouth
Kevin Russell
How the giant lady is suppose to be? /d/?
Ethan Sanchez
/hr/
/d/ is on the top right
Benjamin James
>complains that nothing happens >"wait... why is nothing happening?" >"could pessimism be hindering new projects?" >absolutely not let's complain more
Landon Fisher
Of course. He should be that guy who believes he can weaponize cancer, yet ends up controlled by it.
anybody got the image like this with a bunch of pool's closed in the middle. I want to contribute to this and I liked those designs, so I need them for reference. thanks for sharing this
Jacob Taylor
What you have to do is be very good at filtering to find people who will actually stick to it and filter ideas. It's not likely to work
Austin Ortiz
>glownigger I like that, I'm gonna use that from now on
