It’s always a straight line.

Kanto

LOLing at how fucking badly nintendo btfo all you cringeshitters, you cant point at pokemon lets go anymore and it makes you fucking seethe.

first 3 games is a circuit with a cross-stop

didnt play any after that till X/Y, which yes, is a straight line

Who the fuck cares

You're grasping at straws

Now now, usually it is a Donut.

I do. I've wanted pokemon to feel like a world again, and each generation strays farther and farther away from what could've been... There's so many ideas that they could use to flesh out the world, while simultaneously keeping it simple so that players aren't overwhelmed, but Gamefreak doesn't seem particularly interested on doing that. Their development philosophy is centered around the lowest common denominator rather than building up to develop understanding, and then challenging the player to make them really feel like a champion for beating the game.

I don't know. Maybe it was because I was a dumb kid back then. That obviously wasn't their development philosophy back then... but that's what it felt like, and that's what it should be. A rival should FEEL like a rival. A team should FEEL like a team, training should be arduous and rewarding over the course of time and experience. None of those things even matter anymore...

Is it really so bad to want more from Pokemon?

The scariest thing here is the guy on the right. Seeing him in charge means long cutscene heavy railroaded segments, little to no post game, and a very low difficulty curve.

Gen 6 and 7 in particular felt less like worlds due to how crushingly linear they were. Pokemon's always been kind of linear, but it didn't ever truly feel like just a straight line forward until those games. Now it literally is a straight line.

He didn't even seem that excited to be showing off the game. Compare him to Koizumi talking about Odyssey or Sakurai talking about Ultimate. Those two are always bursting with enthusiasm as if they can't wait for people to get their hands on the game. This guy looks like he was being held at gunpoint.

it is literally just the main british island but flipped upside down you cunt

Attached: OI.png (2064x1392, 2.66M)

The centre section has multiple towns/cities with room for exploration. Of course, I don't necessarily expect it but the shape of the region is no indication, especially given Kalos's shape.

On macro level Pokemon games are always straight lines. You should be comparing actual maps which are also straight, empty hallways, and have been since FUCKING XY

Not necessarily, without exp share the sun and moon totems and captains are actually fantastic hard bosses.

>Another game by Ohmori

This level of retardation it's clearly from an Unovababie. Don't blame your first pokeyman game is indeed a straight line.

Attached: 1532666733540.jpg (387x449, 15K)

There is no fucking reason to think this based on the region being an oblong island you dolt. This game will be shit because Ohmori is directing it, not because of the landmass shape. Pokemon has become progressively worse as he has become more involved in development and the games he was in charge of were dumpster fires.

>a straight line

So I"m guessing normal-ass gyms are back
Kind of disappointed

They look like football stadiums, not sure if they'll be straight battles or some kind of new gimmick.

Do you think that Ireland could be a battle frontier?

More like Cunto, am I right?

>Seems to have branching paths
>"Whoops sorry, you need a key item to pass through here!"
Already seeing it.

>Pokemon games continue to be pokemon games
Imagine my shock!

>Pokemon has become progressively worse as he has become more involved in development and the games he was in charge of were dumpster fires.
Pokemon was already shit by the time he was put in charge.

So are they moving the cities around now? Why is not-London where Liverpool is?

Why is this a bad thing?
Gen V did this "Central hub" map and it was the worst one because it artificially gated you to going in a straight line anyways and just felt shitty. At least a straight line is honest

One of Gamefreak's worst problems is that they have the knack for making content for a game that can only be accessed by an event, and then never having the event actually happen. And if the event actually does happen, they always just give the legendary to people instead of triggering the fun side quest content. It's fucking bullshit and needs to stop.
The sheer amount of locked content you can access with an action replay in most of the Pokemon games is astounding.

Attached: IMG_20190226_155504.png (600x770, 50K)

>Concerned with that
>not that there's barely 8 towns there being generous about what counts as a town and the starting town

The one that comes to mind is the Azure Flute which was required to enter the Hall of Origin where you can catch Arceus. Since the item was never distributed (allegedly because it was thought to be too confusing for players to use), that whole area is locked away.

the events aren't worth anything these days because most of the time you get a mystery gift and some delivery guy gives it to you at a pokecenter

>2019
>expecting anything good from gamefreak

Attached: 1527273571320.png (312x295, 12K)

And the little grass hedgehog had a whole event that was never released.
Same with the darkrai event with the kid inside the locked house in that coastal town.

why would you still be playing Pokemon after emerald

KANTOOOOOOOO

You mean like it's always been since the very first game?

Attached: hm cut.jpg (225x225, 12K)

Why did Haruko dye her hair?

>We found when we were playtesting Ruby and Sapphire that one of our playtesters kept going around in a huge circle from Mt Pyre back to Fortree town repeatedly. When we tried to direct them to the ocean they became agitated. It was then we realised choices were problematic.

Both of those were released.

Were they released outside America? I just remember the event where they handed out the darkrai with spacial rend and roar of time.

Unless there's some funny detours like BW2's Unova, I can't.

Based dabduck poster

*outside Japan

if i do buy this at all i'm just going to wait another year for the "utra" version

Yes, I'm Canadian and I got to play both of those events. It was pretty wild at the time. Just hook up to wifi and activate the event then some side story unfolds. Pretty fun.

Before then you had to go to the events in person, now I could do it from my bedroom. Which I did.

Is that how they've been doing the events since then? I didn't know about that.

The idea that Pokemon was ever this non linear open world game is bs. Yes, you could sequence break but there was always an obvious line of progression. The fact that you're zig zagging upwards doesn't make it any more linear than "vague circle where you'll eventually get a short cut to the starting area but only after you nullify it with Fly"

Kinda makes me want for a new Pokeconquest. Then I remember how SHIT that game was.

Yeah Kanto was a circle but it wasn't so insulting that it was literally a straight line. Remember how you could travel from Fuschia to Viridian Forest via the Diglett cave and it didn't show up on the map? Or how you went under Saffron via the tunnel long before you could actually go there?

FPBP
The only difference is how well it disguises it.
(Ironically, the most open game in the series is LGPE.)

Where is the location based off of?
Gen 5 was New York and early gens were Japan?

When will you hypocrites start complaining about Unova the same way?

>hurr dey all straight line
It's literally the exact same situation as FFX and FFXIII. One is linear, the other is literally a straight fucking line.

Attached: 545.png (561x727, 202K)

Everyone hates PSAS. Everyone fucking hates PSAS. I think this thread pretty much settles the fact that what we're seeing is what is going ti be the worst games in the series. This is Pokemon's Fallout 76, people. Nobody can, or should, deny this.

But the towns don't seem to follow a line, i mean look at the routes

I can't see a clearly linearity here

Attached: D0avx2hWkAEufVK.jpg (848x1200, 254K)

Unlike here

Attached: descarga (1).jpg (278x181, 19K)

Ya, back then I would just go on to serebii and look at their events page. They had a list of every single event in past, present, and announced for the future. They would tell you what to do to get them as well.

There are a shit ton of pokes that you can get as events that are never really announced.

no, it's a Westeros flipped vertically, so The North is actually on top and not on the bottom like all canon maps do for some reason

>Snow just randomly pops up for one area then disappears again

I thought they learnt their lesson in kalos. Snow does not work that way.

What are the Himalayas.

boards.fireden.net/v/search/text/psas/
so do you ever get tired of falseflagging 'cause you've been doing this since sun and moon

Not even close zoomer. HM never were key items.

...

KILL VIDEOGAMES

Where do we even surf to

You wanna explain how or you wanna just sound retarded?

It's literally, on rails.

Attached: 1551282142860.png (791x917, 1.29M)

My best guess is the lighthouse to the ice city.

ANSWER ME. WHY IS THERE NO NPCS? IS THIS JUST AN EARLY BUILD? WILL THERE B NO NPCS IN THE GAME?

i bet your dick curves to the left

It's about story progression. HM were about exploration progression. feel free to try to sound cool with memes

OI, DO YEW HAVE A LOICENSE TO BUILD THAT BATTLE FRONTIER HERE?

THOUGH NOT YEW DAFT SOD, GO BUILD IT SOMEWHERE ELSE

You can temporarily skip Lt. Surge, Erika, and Sabrina in Kanto. Brock and Misty have to be your first two badges, Giovanni has to be your last, and Koga has to be done before Blaine (because the soul badge enables use of surf in the field), but otherwise you can do them in the order you please, having functionally full access to Kanto after three badges (boulder, cascade, soul). The only issue is that even though you're skipping gyms, you're still going to the towns those gyms are in (with the exception of Saffron, which you can avoid entirely until the end), so there's no good reason to not battle them. Progress is gated by your accomplishments against Team Rocket (or rather, the items those accomplishments give you, the Silph Scope and Pokeflute) rather than badges or HMs. You need to take down their hideout in Celadon and stop them in Lavender to get this much access. I replayed gen 1 recently trying to avoid as much as I could for as long as I could and it was fun. Not being able to use Fly because Surge was my 7th gym worked out because I didn't want to use any pokemon that could learn it, so I just walked and biked everywhere. Pretty comfy.

Pokemon + Story = No Story.

What's weird is the snow is basically the top of the (explorable) map. They could have just omitted the mountains that aren't snowy or put snow on them and it wouldn't interfere with any of their level design because you don't go there regardless.

The first time I played Pokemon I didn't go to Saffron City until after I beat Koga because I just had no idea where to get the coffee for the dude

>slightly more vertical that horizontal
>"straight line"
can you grasp at straws harder? this is more embarrassing than watching people claim Gen 1 had the best design

Alola was four separate islands and they still managed to make surfing around a total afterthought. Even when USUM let the player directly travel between islands through gameplay rather than just getting on a boat, they turned it into a minigame instead of making sea routes.

Ever since Pokémon moved to 3DS it feels like they've just been getting shittier and shittier. Maybe Gamefreak just aren't very good devs, I don't know.

Breaking sequence DOES NOT make the game non-linear or open.

You did a couple unintended sequence breaks and now you think pokemon games aren't linear. LMFAOOO

back to social studies for you, retard

Can you translate google gives me nothing and I'm not good at fake math.

Was the sequence breaking in KANTOOOOO intentional or just an accidental exploit?

This shit always pissed me off so much as a kid. That would have been great side content if it was just IN the game, but they always kept it locked out and I never got to do any of it.

Doesn't look linear to me. It'll be a linear game but the geography of the region is not a straight line. Also there are train tracks everywhere so you might not even explore it strictly south to north.

Attached: %22linear%22.jpg (848x1200, 393K)

There is no proper middleground though. Without xp share in S/M you eventually start getting into fights where all your pokemon can be oneshot if you don't optimize your team, while with xp share on the whole game is pure faceroll.
Pokemon was of course never super challenging, but in the past the way it worked was that you could complete the game just by using pokemon you liked, without optimizing your team, but there would be battles you could lose, mostly rival and gym battles.

You mind not shitposting for five seconds? I also explained how the skipping you can do is kind of moot because you still do all these story events in the same order and go to all these cities. You don't have to do anything special to avoid those gyms, and most of the gyms don't give you anything you need to explore.

Event items are just fucking awful in general. If you go back to like HGSS or BW2 and want to "do everything" you have like 20 fucking items and pokemon to hack in that all trigger in game events and shit.

Straight line except for the small branch where you pick which between Celadon or Saffron

It's not that bad, just a nice idea that would have been cool but poorly executed.

Wrong; then it'd be a circle not a straight line

You have to go to Celadon to get into Saffron.

FUCKING THIS

If the map was rotated 90 degrees no one would bat an eye. It's just oriented vertically and people think it's just "go up lol". You have no fucking clue what the path will be.

LGPE actually takes it further by removing HM requirements. Once you've beaten Misty, you can do 3-7 in any order you want.

This was the most linear one by far. I hated BW1, but at least BW2 had you hopping around the map a lot more so it didn't feel that way. In BW1, you just do a straight shoot with any branching in the path just fucking blocked off till later.

I'm fine with getting rolled if I don't optimize my team. I don't care if it's a regular ace trainer.

Don't too stupid user and pay attention. You can see at the bottom of the map a few houses which is where you start your game; small towns. At the top of the map you see a huge facility that fits in what is acknoledge as the pokemon league.

It's literally in the pics

Portugal makes more sense

Attached: img_mapa_portugal.jpg (1200x1545, 781K)

The kids that Pokemon games are meant for surely don't. They're not old enough to care. Maybe some adults care but they're playing games meant for 6 year olds so no one cares abotheir opinopns

Worst region ever.

Good for you, but not everyone likes to play Pokemon that way, it's still an RPG afterall and they used to have the perfect casual difficulty for it, but replaced it with one way below it and one way above it.
Also the totem pokemon encourage gamey shit like saccing an alolan diglett just to slow them down so they dont outspeed and ohko all your mons.

>Also the totem pokemon encourage gamey shit
It's a fucking video game. I should expect the bosses to challenge me to use the game mechanics.

Reminder the games are just tools to produce more Pokemon for the Ashime to promote.

Attached: p3zjj2Y.jpg (2481x3508, 881K)

Making gamey shit mandatory in an RPG is not a good thing. Arguably it's not mandatory of course because you can just faceroll everything with xp share, but the lack of a well balanced difficulty has been my complaint all along.
The games are just completely unengaging if you're not intentionally handicapping yourself now. You don't need to show off how hardcore you are while discussing the difficulty of the main story in pokemon games. The great thing is that they have a casually engaging main story and and endgame with multiplayer, challenge runs and battle facilities that's about optimizing and more "hardcore" play. The issue is that they downed the difficulty of the mainstory so much it's not even engaging casually.

I don't know whatever is making you think the train paths will be actual routes and not extended cutscenes, but I can assure you that only half of the paths you listed will include gameplay.

>Making gamey shit mandatory in an RPG is not a good thing.
Wrong. Read books if you want a story or watch the shit anime if you want "comfy adventure with muh bros uwu"

Ya, and the first fucking town you visit in Pokemon Red/Blue is the 8th gym. Your point?

The way you're talking, it sounds like you're the reason why Gamefreak has casualized the games over the years...

>I play the pokemon games exclusively for the challenging gameplay

Attached: dog.jpg (900x948, 260K)

I play pokemon for multiple reasons, chief among them and most importantly is the gameplay, which does not have to be particularly challenging. The oh so "gamey" elements you're bitching about are not hardcore, they're the bare minimum to make playing the game engaging. Things that, at times, make you think for more than two seconds about what you're going to do, rather than just spamming your strongest or most type effective moves until every battle is over.

XY was good.

There is plenty of room to adjust your strategy otherwise in a game where bosses have more than one pokemon.
Having a partymember that you don't care for aside from sacrificing them in an RPG is simply unengaging and also not an interaction with the core gameplay, since you're just abusing a gimmick.

was Sinnoh linear?
I can't remember

Attached: Pt_Sinnoh.png (1024x724, 1.3M)

Oh wow. Another game where I can't get my useless fucking ice Pokemon until the very end.

Attached: 1507952087335.jpg (526x567, 74K)

Why do you want useless ice Pokemon early on?

No it doesn't considering Portugal doesn't have water on both sides.

I don't want them shitting up my late-game dungeon.

It was linear in that it forced you to go back and forth between the same line through a retarded fucking mountain giving the illusion of exploration. I have no issue with backtracking but Sinnoh did it retarded.

kek more like gaylord region

oh my fucking god

THEY WERE ALL LINEAR. EVERY POKEMON GAME HAS BEEN LINEAR.

An unintended sequence break where you can do a gym or two out of order does not make any of the games nonlinear.

>An unintended sequence break where you can do a gym or two out of order
you never even played them you fucking child

I feel liked you must have played some mutate version of S/M because it was face roll no matter what you did.

No, if you didn't use xp share you eventually were severely underleveled and when you add trained evs on boss trainers on top of that you got one shot really easily.

I mean okay

Preeetty sure you could do Pryce or something put of order.

Kill yourself tourist

nice try fat poof I'm a local.

>imagine being that autistic that you cannot see that the map is a caricature impression of the region and not a accurate cartographic representation
you people are sick in the head

the shape of the region is the least of this game's problems already
they can make any area as expansive as they want, who cares if you go up more than left or right? you always explore new shit.
Why not complain about mediocre graphics on from a billion dollar budget or random encounters? fuck you faggots

Where do you live so I can kill you and rape your wife.

Don’t worry the league will be ducking hogwarts
The Harry Potter pandering is so obvious, get all the fans they lost to HP when they grew up

And Unova was just a circle. What's your point?
