Lets talk VR Yea Forums

What do you think about VR at the moment.
We can have a discussion without it turning into "VIVE SUCC" or "RIFT GAY"
Lets do it.

Don't hate

needs more games. the technology is there, but the software sure as hell isn't.

I agree, I give it 10 more years then we will start seeing some truly impressive things.

I love my Rift and use it almost every single day but the market for games has stagnated hard. Every thread is the same recommendations, and while they're good I'm having trouble finding anything new to play.

When is VR getting more good games?

youtube.com/watch?v=2Ak2h3PkY1I

Quest lineup was taking full priority. Once it's out, count on more titles to show up.

>own a Threadripper
>literally incapable of using vive wireless due to OEMs not knowing how to build ryzen motherboards
It isn't fair.

God I hope so, it's gotten to the point where I've considered buying PSVR just for their very few exclusives.

what kind of graphics card or vram do i need to just do the porn stuff, not any games? asking for a friend

just get a phone VR for that shit

I want one just for the motion capture capabilities. It has the best quality to cost ratio of any low cost motion capture system. It's hard to justify the price still though.

New game on the horizon, published by the Myst/Obduction guys.
Obduction also has VR support, anyone here tried it?

That looks sick. I heard you can also do the same thing with a kinect for windows. If you can find one that is. They are expensive now.

I own psvr and dk2 does this upset you guy

Not at all.

For the videos all you need is Google Cardboard or whatever phone VR headset there is. If you want games like WSS or Honey Select a 1060 will get the job done easy.
Virt-a-Mate however is an optimized pile of garbage in VR and you'll get screen tearing on even beast computers if you try to go above Medium/High settings with too much shit in the scene.

I enjoy psvr I think it's good vr, are you mad

I actually own and tried the kinect setup (with ipisoft) and it ended up requiring way too much manual cleanup to be viable. It was easier to keyframe it from scratch than fix the results I got.

*unoptimized

No? Im happy for you user. Congrats on finding something fun to do.

Have you played duke nukem 3d on oculus that is a great experience

VRchat is doing well. I still want to buy a Vive for it so I can be a loli and identify panties.

get help user

I played in vr chat and in rec room everyone is so much nicer in rec room vr chat is also full of foreign language speaking people weeaboos are unpleasant

I would play rec room but it seems to childish for me

VRChat also draws more attention because of all the dumbass memes and videos on youtube, so more people will flock to it which means you're more likely to run into obnoxious people.

Pavlov is very enjoyable.

my friends are really nice on vrchat. i was a bit lucky though - one nice person led to a number of them.

I cant wait to try it. I was supposed to get my headset yesterday but now it's due to be here friday. I think I'm going to play that first.

It lost the meme audience and ever has

all vrchat has ever been is one big meme

Anyone tried the GTAV VR mod? Decent?

It looked like ass to me when I saw it. But that's just my opinion.

The meme gets even better when you become friends with some of the best the game has.

Any other physics based melee games besides Gorn and B&S?

Attached: 1551293472396.webm (640x360, 2.86M)

is the lenovo explorer any decent?
are the WMR controllers good enough for beat saber?

>OEMs not knowing how to build ryzen motherboards
I thought it was HTC that shit the bed when it came to them not working with Ryzen and its derivatives.

yes and yes

Yeah that headset is definitely decent. I kind of wish I would have gone with the Odyssey+ though, just because it's the same shit but with a few improments like the screen, in headset Bluetooth, and mechanical ipd iirc

>are the WMR controllers good enough for beat saber?
For general play, but not high level play.

Vr chat is great though I map a few good maps on it I think

>exclusively on Oculus Rift
Honestly, what the fuck are Vive and rift doing thinking about exclusivity? VR is such a small, niche market, trying to do some dumbass console exclusive shit is just going to decimate any chance it has of becoming somewhat mainstream (to the point where big publishers spend real money to sell games on it).

oh i never said it was bad, just that its a meme

I'm building my own headset atm, could probably get a low end wmr set for around the same price but I'm curious about putting it together. Plus I'd much rather wait until we get headsets with eye tracking before I drop the big bux.

What kind of experience can I get with an RX 580 (8GB) and a R5 1600? Is it even worth thinking about getting an HMD, or should I just not even entertain the thought until I have the money to upgrade my GPU and buy a headset?

I have a rift and a vive and it's bumming me out that there's no word of tetris effect coming to pc fuck

They're doubling down on it, going mobile standalone and more or less sidelining PCVR so they have tighter control over their platforms. And then you have Sony of course.
Valve and Microsoft are the ones championing an open platform for PCVR. I suspect Knuckles are going to be made accessible to WMR since it needs wide adoption.

Attached: 1550435844987.jpg (1000x563, 79K)

>Vive
What vive exclusives are there? All I can think of is old shovelware on steam that dropped before rift got touch controllers and some early access stuff still going that has "unofficial" support that works 99% fine. None of it's an intentional platform strategy.

It wouldn't surprise me if HTC was dumb enough to try this with viveport but I haven't heard of anything there either.

Valve dev got back to me. SteamVR doesn't support Kepler or older GPUs for motion smoothing, so if I do get a headset it might be laggy. It was a fun experiment though. Maybe foveated rendering will work with it down the line

Yeah, it's just so mind boggling. I honestly hope Oculus fails and Facebook sells them. Their acquisition by Facebook was so disapointing. As soon as VR went from being a peripheral to its own platform, I knew shit like this would happen and hinder the ability for it to catch on.

Odyssey+ or wait for Oculus Quest/Vive forcus?

the answer is always: wait

Well they canceled the Rift 2 and merged Oculus in under Facebook Technologies after chasing off most of the original staff. They won't sell Oculus I'm sure but they'll milk whatever they can out of it, Iribe complained about a "race to the bottom" before he left. Right now a Rift successor is an unconfirmed rumor and speculated to be low-end WMR tier.

Nigga do you want wired PCVR with the best screen or standalone mobileshit running on a smartphone processor?

Quest and Focus Pro are worthless mobileshit, Vive Cosmos might be interesting but it's most likely going to be overpriced since they call it "premium".

twitter.com/MrBTFO/status/1099829451028905985

lame and potato

Odyssey Plus if you're really looking to playing some VR games right now.
I actually bought one while it was on sale a few weeks ago, but ended up returning it before the 30 day refund window ended.
It's a great headset, but the inside out tracking does get a bit annoying to deal with since certain VR actions like throwing are fucking impossible unless the dev implements it properly for WMR.
I'm just waiting for this rumored Valve HMD/ Kunckles combo.

Gotta have games to sell the hardware.
The games are funded by oculus so I understand why they're exclusive, but unfortunately it leads to the PC equivalent of console wars most of the time.
Even though Revive exist and 99% of the stuff on Oculus' store can be played on other headsets.

Uhh, I think you just posted one there buddy. That webm isn't Blade and Sorcery.

What is it?

It really doesn't make sense though. The headsets are low margin at best, where they would make good money on games in their storefront. I understand if they fund the game, they keep it exclusive to their storefront. That's fair. But it's hard to see how they're benefiting from keeping their storefront exclusive to their headset. It's all just fucking bullshit.

I heard you can get Vive controllers to work with Odyssey?
Anyone here tried it?

Is oculus even making money off the hardware though?
My guess is that Facebook is forgoing a lot of profit just to establish near complete dominance in the VR market while it's still small. It's hilarious then that HTC/Valve are just kind of coasting along with minimal effort while Facebook keeps trying to brute force their way throwing cash everywhere.
I suspect the existence of Revive is what killed Rift 2, also maybe WMR showing up to complicate matters.

You can but it's a pain in the ass. The climbey dev even has a video of him using knuckles with a cheap Acer HMD.
Vive wands are really bad though.

Yeah, you can use Vive controllers and trackers with just about anything. You need the base stations. You might as well just get a full Vive set, honestly.

Odyssey requires Windows' funky house thing (forget what it's called, I upgraded to Oculus) which is a negative. Also the headset will still be inside-out tracking. Crouching down makes the headset lose tracking and if your room's lighting changes a lot (such as a room with windows) you need to re-calibrate nearly every single time you want to play VR.

I hope there will be a gen 2 of WMR because there needs to be more VR headsets for competition to grow.

Probably not. Rumor is they are discontinuing the brand

thats a dumb rumor made by someone who has no clue what they are talking about.

That's a shit rumor spread by garbage clickbaiters based on the fact that MS discontinued an affiliate program which included lots of products that are obviously not doomed.
Oculus is the one without a clear successor announced, even HTC has announced the Cosmos and Eye Pro.
Personally I don't think WMR is really interested in pushing the technology hard, merely iterating on what we have, bringing many well-known manufacturers into VR and propogating HMD adoption in OpenVR. We probably won't see WMR 2.0 before the other players show their hands.

youtube.com/watch?v=4NMhx5WlpEs

That's some pretty intense latency.

>Palmer Luckey had figured out how to get Vive support on Oculus Store and was about to go through with it just before Facebook expelled him for wrongthink

>2012+7
>still no gen 2
I'm glad I didn't fall for the VR meme, but can't wait for it to finally be worth it next decade

the longer you wait the more you miss out

miss out on what?
all the good games that come out now will still be playable next decade senpai, it's just that there'll be more of it and the hardware won't make me want to gouge my eyes out and/or puke

I don't think that's wrongthink. I think that's just them trying to not be publicly exploited

>tfw serious sam VR is a much better port (and game) then doom

croats, you're ok

>Feels like 5lb binoculars are stuck to your head whenever playing

Can you pirate VR games and run steamvr with it?

Would have been nice if they went through it and Oculus API officially supported Vive, because SteamVR is a slow piece of shit in comparison and I wish it wasn't the only 'open' option. At least Facebook is going through with OpenXR support I suppose, but that is still a year or two off.

yes

Am I too late?

Just wait for the 2030s.

never too late cyubebro

I rarely notice the headset, you do have it on correctly right?

Phew, I was a little worried.

>still no controller that simulates weight

These threads are so boring, there's no reason for me to be here instead of in VR
Later fags

not an issue
most of you fags would be too weak to hold even a .22 pistol for extended period of time anyway.

Have any pushback or response would make VR miles better.

>3d print accessories that could hold the controllers in
>add weights inside hollow compartments depending on what it's supposed to emulate
>???
>profit
this kind of shit should come with the vive controllers desu
one that would simulate a pistol, one that would simulate a two handed gun (or even a shotgun) and one that would simulate a sword or something like that

idunno im usually too busy playing the fucking game than thinking about shit you autist think about.

I just want a strap attached to the arm that can simulate minor forces.

I play VR just so I can be autistic about details

How much money do you think Facebook has pissed away into VR total and how much more do you think they'll piss away before realizing they've wasted billions and will never see any return?

>Big name developers are still afraid to invest in VR
If I saw these install base numbers, I'd be afraid too. Its straight up pissing money down the sink, even for AA size.

they have propably gotten their money back already.

Facebook can afford to do it.

Is this game any good yet??

Depends on your idea of "good".

Attached: BlockMove3[1].gif (600x338, 2.61M)

Unfortunately that's true.
Good joke user. They have spent billions (with a b) to sell niche hardware at low margins to unsuccessfully monopolize a small niche to sell a few pieces of software to that niche, but spent far more developing said software than they will ever collect.

>What do you think about VR at the moment.
It's shit at the moment and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

>Unreal PT

why the fuck have I only just learned about this?
Okay sorry Carmack but I'm dropping Oculus harder than ever now

He's also offering free fixes for a common fault in the Rift's headphones.

I see this exact fucking thread several times everyday

Welcome to Yea Forums.
