Uh no... I just heard from people that did import that it's a buggy mess (due to being farmed out) and despite all the patches it's still messy. Plus, it's way too late in the 3DS' life for anything else.

Actually, Psychic Specters is not that cheap. It's still full price on GameStop, and Amazon has it at an even higher price.

They attempted that with the 'Merican Yo-kai in 3, but there wasn't any actual Western mythology. It was a lot of food, sports, and superheroes.

The first game was probably the worst game in the franchise to port over first. It feels very Level-5-ish in that it has solid foundations, but everything feels unpolished.

If they skipped the first game and jumped straight to 2, it would have maybe had a bit more traction, as almost every complaint about the first game is addressed.

Whatever, I'm enjoying 3 and I expect 4 to come outside of japan, I guess that we aren't getting Blasters 2.

Level-5 franchises are always niche but good anyway.

Yeah. I always tell people to skip the first. Especially since the second game retreads a lot of the same ground, essentially being a soft reboot. Annoyingly, that's why people gave the sequel low scores despite all the improvements. Reviewers continue to be trash.

Shame about Blasters 2 and Sangokushi. I will admit it's kind of cool that they didn't rename the Commander Yo-kai in 3. Instead of "Captain Jibanyan" or something, he's still Jibanyan Liu Bei.

As for Blasters 2, it's all speculation. The 3DS is on its last legs, the game itself didn't do well in Japan, and they probably see no point in bringing it over. Unless it gets ported to Switch (which is possible as it runs on the same engine as Snack World, which got a Switch port)

Most Yo-kai Watch reviews (ESPECIALLY for 3) are so completely bias and clearly skewed against it. Gamespot's is particularly offensive, where they gave the game a 60 but gave LGPE an 80. Talk about a literal Nintendo bonus. People are really trying to doomsay Yo-kai Watch and pretend it's doing way worse than it actually is because they can't stand anything similar to Pokemon exists.

If the combat in 1 and 2 doesn't appeal to you, then go ahead straight to 3.

Nah, kids like Jibanyan, it's just that there's some pretty big cultural differences. They should have marketed the really cute and cool Yokai, so now everyone has this really bad impression of the series and continues to try and say that half the roster are the 'nyans. Although a legitimate problem the series does have are the recolors, which I would honestly just be fine if they did away with almost all of them.

Tons of stores have been trying to cut down on 3DS stock ever since the Switch came out. the later Yo-kai Watch games just came out at really bad and unfortunate times, but I will agree that Level-5 really knows how to mismanage a franchise.

3 did manage to come back in stock on Amazon at least, but that's just an unfortunate side effect to releasing so late in the 3DS's life cycle. The 3DS section at my local Target is literally just a small box with a handful of select 3DS games on two sides, and a display case with all the 3DS's they still have in stock that I wouldn't be surprised they're mad about Nintendo releasing the n2DS because of it clogging up the case. The other two sides have little to nothing to do with the 3DS. Stores are trying desperately to kill off the 3DS because they want to downsize on stock.

In Blaster T mode, the goal is to get grab treasure chests and get to the final floor of a dungeon (most are five, but there are lengthy ones). One of the items you can get from the chests are Clu-T-Facts, and depending on the level you pick, you can get rare Yo-kai from them. You can also get the Forbidden Fruit, a food item that instantly befriends a Yo-kai, and it's not hard to grind.

Or the cute ones

You can stockpile yourself on Yokai that don't appear till later, or even S Rank Yokai as early as chapter 2 or 3. Not only that, but you can make yourself hilariously overpowered with the best EXP items in the game, as well as max out your cash with items that sell for 2k a pop. Best of all, you can even farm for an item that gives an 100% rate to befriend a Yokai. Blasters T breaks the game hilariously.

To my knowledge. The dub in Europe (the CN dub) is completely different. From the clips I've seen. It doesn't sound too great. But then again it could have gotten better over time. IDK.

Hailey has a quest once you get the Detective Agency that'll auto befriend Cupistol for you. In BBQ, I honestly don't know. It's honestly really hard to say just how big of a difference having a Popularity Yokai with you makes, and Forbidden Fruits are the main way to go if you're desperate to befriend certain Yokai.

Yeah, I adore the game, but there's definitely dumb design choices. The voice clips being among it. I have no idea what they were thinking with the Spew-copter.

There's also some real bullshit quests. Finding the 48 posters is basically impossible without a guide, and then there's getting Unfairy for the Wicked Tribe's Ultimate Sukiyaki quest. You have to complete an entirely unrelated quest that gets real tedious.

It's weird to me that there's no option to just turn the voice clips off. I would honestly prefer that, because they really don't add to anything at all. Also Nate's dad sounds fucking weird.
I did enjoy Nate basically unintentionally getting his dad forced back to Springdale though.
And yeah, some of the quests are pretty bad. I just know that the Wicked questline is going to take me awhile to do. I need to start getting back to doing quests, and what sucks about collecting anything is that you never know just where you've been already.

I think the line "We aren't friends yet!" and everyone obsessing over him for whatever reason is what really turned me off of him at first. I don't think he's as great of friends with you than Eddie, Bear, and Katie, but I warmed up to him, although I can't recall when.
There's a quest you can get really early though that spoils him being a Hazeltine and that one girl's brother. Also if you play through Blasters T, they call his UFO stone the Cluberisk, which I never even recall them calling it that during the main story.

The battle system is what made me stop playing. The setting is neat, but the fighting is irredeemable.

It's really not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. If you want a bad combat system, then play Monster Hunter Stories, a game that flat out lies to you about its mechanics. That said, YW3 vastly improves the combat system, so it's definitely worth trying out.

Usually it's recommended to play YW2 and skip 1 since 2 retcons 1's plot. You can jump to 3, but a few side quests may be confusing since context. Characters will act hella different too

Ya'know, I think the main issue with Terror Time and Zombie Night isn't that they're bad, it's more so that they're an inconvenience that you're always trying to avoid, and you're actively wasting time by getting them.

I mean the others. There's supposedly one for silver lining and little Charrmer and one more for unberaboy and d-stroy
Terror time is still suffering, but zombie night is less suffering I think, mostly because zombie night at least is always confirmed to happened at nighttime only (or if you get caught by the clown) while terror time can just rip you out of whatever you're doing during the day

you can skip 1 and go straight to 2, if don't like the wheel , than get to 3 as that changes gameplay to grid system.

I know one thing the first game has over the sequels is the Vampire Fang item, which allows your Yo-kai to absorb HP with every attack. This basically made Shogunyan unstoppable since he attacked three times. They got rid of that, instead making it Dracunyan's soul

Honestly I'm legitimately curious if they were initially intent on it just mainly being Shadowside stuff, and then once they were starting to switch gears over towards reproducing the original anime/manga series, they started focusing more and more on Keita. It's hard not to commend Level-5 for at least experimenting and trying out new things for the series, even if it ended up backfiring quite a bit on them. I heard in the third season or whatever when Inaho was introduced, they stopped using her nearly altogether later on because of such harsh backlash and criticism. I'm really interested to see where the new anime goes.

So how lucky of you guys with BBQ crank, is there a way to get better at timing when stop as I only get two low rank yo-kai from it.

I befriended Thurston in a fight in the post-game, but I've gotten somewhat lucky I think with the Cranks. I always make sure to get the aura beforehand, although I've tested it before. I have a way of making save states on my 3DS, and the Crank will always give you a determined Yokai (as well as the number of cranks per day) although I do believe it can change if you manage to make the pre-selected stop into a gold one.

The fight choreography and panelling of the original DB manga is of top quality from beginning to end. If anything, Toriyama's ability to draw fight scenes improves as the characters become stronger.
And MHA's power creep is way worse. At least Piccolo and Tien can hold their own against Super Saiyan-tier opponents. Deku getting seven quirks will put him above the vast majority of MHA's large roster. Meanwhile, the Namek Arc is the last time Goku ends up being the strongest character in the series.

Deku vs Todoroki isn't as dynamic as Vegeta vs Recoome.

For those who never played a Yo-kai Watch game, 2 and 3 have some genuinely difficult missions in the post game from time to time. I had to make an entirely new team for Kat Kraydel in 2, and I heard The Zenlightener was pretty bad in 3. I haven't fought him yet, though.

Kat Kraydel and Kabuking are legitimately hard and require all of your knowledge of the game's mechanics to beat them, but sometimes you can just get completely fucked on RNG and be forced to restart due to just getting bullshit patterns. I've only fought Zenlightener once, but he completely sweeped my team after we fucking crawled our way up there. At Floor 6 or so I believe, you're no longer allowed to use any items in or out of battle, so no more reviving or healing, so make sure you have at least two or even three Yokai that can heal or even revive your teammates with you, or else you're going to be in for a really bad time. The 9th boss also has a really fucking mean attack where he'll trick and literally bait you into moving into a certain position only to change it at the last moment and fuck you over, and it fucking hurts, and my Yokai in the high 60's and low 70's got one-shot because of it.

How long is the second game anyway? And is it a requirement to play 2 before going to YKW Blasters?

The Zenlightment dungeon is a tower of bullshit. For englightenment of extremity, you cannot use items to heal yo-kai, so you'll need good healers to keep everyone healthy and a reliable tank to shave off as much hits as possible.
There's no going back either, so you have to fight your way to the top. Starts with some strong Yo-kai and then you fight buffed up bosses, and then you have to face Zenlightment. He will put the 3x3 grid use to your limit and he will pretty much shrug off most Yo-kai attacks. You must gun him down with the Yo-kai Blaster if you want a chance against him.

It depends on what you want to do. You could always bullrush through the main story, but if you stop to explore you can get quite the trip. The main story on mime ended at like 70 hours since I wasted my time doing the infinite tunnel game.
YW Blasters is a spin-off. It references 2, but it's not needed to enjoy it.

You can technically play any of the games without prior knowledge of the series, but if you want the most context as to who everyone is, then definitely play 2, which makes 1 almost completely obsolete and essentially retcons it out of existence. As for Blasters, I haven't played it, but 3 does have stuff related to it in it, and I believe it first introduced Enma.

How do you think this team would fare?: El Sharkador, Clodzilla, Sonic Bam, Her Eggcelency, Brutle, The Hinix

I might need to replace Egg with Fuku, but I really hope not.

I will say that Eggcellency is a tanky goddess and I would not have gotten through Floor 9 without her, because she was the last survivor on my team, so I basically padded it out with her healing herself every turn while waiting for my Blaster to recharge and dishing out my main source of damage that way.

How would you even go about building a tank in 3? I imagine there's some soul or item that makes it so enemies will aggro onto you more? Or I guess put them in front with everyone behind you? Is Corptain a good tank?

You would indeed have to use a line strategy. Even then there are some skills that will hit all Yo-kai, and the big boss strategy often breaks that line

It's not that it's bad, but 2 retcons 1's plot and future games make it seem hella archaic. See

The first game is like the very first iPhone. Pretty good but got outclassed in every way with the predecessor, and it didn’t help that the 2nd game retconned the first one. I only finished 1 because I was only two chapters away from finishing it.

So could someone confirm how to avoid the problems PS has when linking a save? It's my understanding that you play through all of FS/BS without buying any music whatsoever which allows PS to get the unique songs without the glitch preventing it from getting any at all, right? I know you can edit saves so it's no problem if it does happen but I'd just like to avoid any problems down the line if playing this game.

I was under the impression you could also transfer over Yokai which are more of a pain to get in PS so it's worth it to play through FS/BS.

I got the first YW and i do enjoy level 5's charm. Game is comfy. But it doesn't compel me to play. Any protips to improve enjoyment? Or is it wholly just a casual, passive, comfy experience.

It's mainly to enjoy the comfy atmosphere, solve some local puzzles/quests, and once you beat it you get access to all the postgame bosses. Infinite Inferno is a pretty decent challenge even if you're using Shogunyan and Scartle with Vampiric Fangs and a healer, and then you have Orcanus who requires specific teams and strategies to beat. Overall it's not difficult, the capturing is more a test of patience and the postgame is more about solid planning than anything.

I tried to get into Yokai Watch, but the designs and setting was way too childish. The show is literally aimed at children under 10, so anyone else trying to get into it simply feels uncomfortable.

Man, two months ago you could get it at most places for regular price. Try checking Target stores specifically even though their site doesn't list it. FUCKING Gamestop might have it but I've only ever seen PS and FS by them.

It works for vast open word games like Skyrim and Breath Of The Wild

1 and 2's systems are weak but 3's tactics board beats the hell out of Pokemon's stale turn-based 'spam super effective moves to win'

Despite your yokai being on autobattle it feels like you're actually directing them rather than just watching them, at least in the harder fights.

Exactly, people like SMT, Spectrobes and DQM has found it's own niche as well as Digimon. People just don't like Yokai Watch and it's fanbase just won't accept that people genuienly don't like their game. I won't call it trash, but it's clearly aimed at children, even more so than Pokemon (without nostalgia bonus) and on top has a story like some Japanese weekly children anime. It's not hard to see why people don't like it.

Japan drivers and truckers canonically runs over a lot of stray cats, so there's a lot of cat Yo-kai running amok.

Considering all their isekai I think Japanese just like to run over things in general.

They all use the old Dragon Quest Monsters approach of 'throw food, hope they join' with a few other minor ways to increase recruit chances.
3 adds the Forbidden Fruit, a farmable item that guarantees a recruit, though.

YW3 change to a grid system.

BW/2 was a pretty mediocre gen so the cabal needs to make up shit to justify their opinions.
They were pushing it as "more than gen 1!" and trying to relate it to that as well, so I guess they were successful in a sense since unovabortions are as bad as if not worse than genwunners

3 has a 3x3 square where you move the yokai so you have a greater sense of control over them.
