Does anyone like anime fighters but hate the aesthetics of anime fighters
Like something like Guilty Gear is fine, and I generally enjoy anime, but shit like BlazBlue, Melty Blood, and UNIST is such a fucking mishmash of generic anime bullshit
Like I love these games for their gameplay but I understand why most people would never want to touch them

No, I like the aesthetics but hate the gameplay. Fuck your airdashing.
Also Aoko best girl.

>mishmash of generic anime bullshit
That's every fighting game though

I feel kinda similar. I don't hate their aesthetics but games like Uniel just make me yawn with the majority of it's cast's designs even if I like the gameplay. Arcana Heart is also somewhat similar, only the demon nun caught my attention and the rest just bore me immediately.

I unironically think that there is not one good fighting game where I could say that I hate the aesthetics.

I don't mind the characters most of the time, it's just the horrendous UI and overall presentation of the menus and style. It's either looks like unappealing ff6 menus with some spray brush tool sprinkled in or so tedious and weird it loses all functionality while also looking ugly

I guess there's no solid restraint or craft when it comes to the character design in anime fighters. You either get something where theyre underdesigned and ultra generic like Melty there, or wacky overdesigned action figures like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

Multiply those design principles on a roster of 20+ characters and yeah itll look like a mashup AMV of a dozen different series.

>love the music, character designs, over the top fighting moves and styles
>too shitty at the games and no friends to play with to actually stick to a game

bbtag was fun for a good bit though

Melty blood has the best looking and most huggable arc.

Why are GGfags to ass blasted against Blazblue?

GG died for like half a decade due to some legal fuck up with Sammy/Sega so BB was going to be it's replacement or something like that.

90s adult anime masterrace versus 2000s oversaturated weebshit. And I say that as someone who prefers BB.

I don't like Blazblue's aesthetic, but those others are fine. The actual art of UNIST took some time to grow on me, but I've always thought the designs were completely fine. A lot of characters in Blazblue feel overdesigned to me, and the girls all look like cheap prostitutes, and while I can appreciate that that's part of the appeal for some it just makes them look dumb to me and it diminishes the design of a character like Litchi whose supposed to look sexy but the way she dresses is more conservative than someone like Makoto who just looks sexy for the sake of it rather than it being part of the character.

I'm fine with UNIST. BB looks like a mess to me. The characters all look terrible except for a couple.

>dude in a school uniform with a knife
>girl with a long skirt
What's wrong about those characters?

I don't like a good amount of characters from MB but their animations redeem them.

about 70% of Melty Blood's characters are just regular-ass anime characters. The rest are pretty neat though.

>fanservice has to serve a purpose to the character

lmao at taking fanservice as a serious point for character personality.

It doesn't have to, I'd just like it to, and as I said I know some people don't care about that and like having the girls look like that for the sake of it, but I don't, or at the very least I'd like them to be less explicit about it. GG has plenty of fanservice, but it doesn't go so far with it that I-No doesn't stand out as looking slutty like she's supposed to.

No cause I don't take it to seriously also because of my bad habit of liking over designed shit that is just done for the sake of being cool and over designed

Take Ragna's design for instance, in the end this design is dumb with all the bells and whistles and belts, but thats exactly why I enjoy it because it looks like a character that someone just had shitty fun designing like 15 y/o me would which was the age I got into BB.

Also I find it odd that you are fine with GG but not MB or BB when GG is arguably just as anime as BB and far more anime then MB, i can only assume the surface level metal designs help you through

Attached: download.jpg (198x254, 6K)

1.) Everyone thought BB was going to replace GG. For a time there was truth in this, but they got GG back
2.) The first BB was inherently a shitty game that set the anime fighting game subgenre a few years back and made it look bad to the general populace
3.) Secondaries who dont play either dickride GG because its one of those OG games you namedrop for extra e-peen.

It's not too far off designs so stock they belong as default assets in an RPG Maker style program.

So in other words, the costume is too revealing for your virgin eyes.

I understand, as I have a friend who's just like you and refuses to play the game despite previously being quite obsessed with the story's lore after they started putting in more waifus into the fold like Makoto, Bullet and Mai.

it's not ggfags, it's meleefags seething that they won't get to lug their roach-filled crts to evo and stink up the main stage anymore.

But Op brought up "stupid anime bullshit" which as far as designs go MB is specifically lacking compared to GG and BB

DOES ANYONE ELSE JUST LOVE 2D SPRITES ON A 3D BACKGROUND OR IT JUST ME!!

- BlazBlue is tacky and gaudy, I'm not a fan.
- Melty is WAY too low key and subdued, but that's just accurate to the VN, can't be helped.
- UNIST is stylish, slick and nice. There's some weak designs around, but I think it has the strongest Aesthetic of the group.

They all have awful, AWFUL looking UIs though, and the use of text is hideous.

Melty worked with Takeuchi's designs on Typemoon's earliest works so it makes sense it would have subdued designs.
UNI was made with a similar intent solely from French Bread devs who had Blazblue in mind and specifically restrained their character designs to not be like Blazblue. Look at what Mori tried to suggest they make Hyde look like before they settled on his current design.

Attached: Scrap-hydes.jpg (1412x568, 432K)

1. The thought BB was going to replace BB
2. Game is still just as popular and a lot of times more popular then theirs despite their belief that theirs is better.
3. Gear is an oki heavy game and BB has a tech system to weaken certain oki situations leading to a more lockdown mixup heavy playstyle
4. Their lest assblasted now but they are still smug about how much better they think their game is

Well I still play the game, I just don't like the designs. And it's not necessarily because they're too revealing, it's because they're too revealing for the sake of being revealing and I'd rather they be more appropriate for their respective characters. I wouldn't mind Noel's new design still showing her midriff and pits for example, but I'd rather her skirt not being barely there. There's still some fanservice the former way, but without making her look like she's a cheap prostitute for no other reason than the sex appeal. But sex appeal for the sake of it is obviously something Mori is fond of and it's something a lot of Blazblue fans are fond of too, so while it's understandable, it's not how I'd prefer the designs to be.

Anyone feel like lobbying up for some UNIST on PS4 right now?

anyone going to WNF tonight?

I got shit to do but I'll go for a quick FT5

>Like something like Guilty Gear is fine
Complete opposite opinion here. 3d models look so fucking ugly to me.

>mori
>french bread
Nigga what? Also Hyde's simplest design was the first one there. Even his current one has dumb shit like zipper pants.

Alright, it's set up. Pass will be vee. Thanks for joining!

i hate absolutely ugly kusoge shit like BlazBlu and DBZ art, but most everything else is fine.

Mori was consulted to help design the main character

Wtf Meltys character designs are goat. Not enough neon LEDS plastered all over their bodies for you? No overly pandering ironic weeb designs. Go fuck yourself and rethink your retarded OP.

Also anyone else is welcome to join too if ya'd like.

I'm at amateur skill level if you're new to the game and want a training partner or a good training dummy if you're more advanced.

Attached: 1534513439861.png (450x636, 216K)

they're literally just regular anime dudes
fighting game characters should have something to make them stand out

There's beautiful simplicity and then there's looking like the cover of a "How to Draw Manga Style" book.

Mori was a consultant, dumbo

Shit like Warakia and Nero dont stand out? Red Arc? Ciel? The maids?
And being simple isnt a bad thing with the Tohnos its obvious what their moveset is like from the design alone.

What's good character design to you then

Surely you're not suggesting Melty Bloods art is the equivalent to a HTDM book right? Either bait or retarded. Potentially both

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 83K)

>does anyone like anime fighters but is SO FUCKING FAGGOT AND INSECURE I CAN'T HANDLE THE AESTHETIC
FUCK OFF NEWFAG

No you fucking tasteless fagboy normalfag cancer.
I feel the opposite if anything. I'd kill for a VF game but with more animegood style.

And now to sleep

Thanks for showing up hippie. Best of luck on those errands later!

>generic
You dont know what that word means you subhuman zoomer

>first version of game has solid looking cast and basic gameplay with a unique gimmick
>final burst reloaded XX version of game is full of clown looking characters and 50 different subsystems that take forever to learn
why does this always happen?

Mori prioritizes Fun over Balance

Same. UNIST characters look fucking retarded, I would rather play Guilty Gear

Melty blood is like one of the least "anime" anime fighting game of them all though. They all look like normal Japanese kids for the most part. Even the wierdo's of the bunch look relatively normal and subtle compared to BB and GG.

Attached: 1528737596785.jpg (707x1000, 50K)

I got vanguard princess from a bundle a few months ago but never touched it. Is it any good? Why does no one talk about it

>thought GG died for good
>try BB
>"hey it's not that b-"
>worst daisuke OST
>weebier and stupidier than fucking GG
*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip*
I'm glad GG is back

Literally only Nrnvnqsr, Roa, Wallachia, the neko characters and maybe Powerd Ciel look over the top, and that says a lot about the design because they dont look too bad

I'm with I like that most of the time, most anime fighters have relatively simple outfit design while still being able to make them look flashy through very fine details. The OP image of Melty Blood and other French Bread games being a prime example. Just about all of them are people in relatively ordinary plain clothes or at least a simple outfit, just the small patterns or some simple aesthetic touches give them a lot of character without burdening them with one hundred stupid accessories. Even the characters with fancy outfits, royal dresses and shit, they aren't going overboard with appearances. Nobody is walking around with giant Warcraft shoulderpads or anything.

You would have to get into some of the more outlandish anime artstyles like WakuWaku7 or Toshinden, or games with a style of dress that is all over the place like BlazBlue to get to the point where anime fighters fall into the realm of "personal taste" aesthetics.

The only thing I'm not a fan of for most "airdash" anime fighters are the combos being long not through any fancy unique sequence, but that are almost usually repetitive series of loops due to shit like double jumping and whatever else that lets you juggle someone with the same handful of normals over and over for tens of seconds.

Aoko is best girl. You can't get much simpler than jeans and a tee shirt.

>"Mori tried to suggest"
holy shit someone Murder that Fucker

I like the aesthetics and the airdashing but fuck your 30 second combos and even longer unbreakable pressure strings. I played lot of melty blood but it's a boring downback fest vs a lot of the high tiers.

1 >= 7 > 5 > 6 >> 2 >>> 3 >>>> 4
With that said 1 looks cool but he doesn't fit under night's current aesthetic so I'm glad we got current Hyde.

Arc is cute. Too bad she's from a dead series.

No, I enjoy Tsukihime designs and think their simplicity applies well to a fighting game. UNIST designs are also simple with enough flair to make them interesting. I also love the fact that a lot of the characters are giant chuni dorks. Blazblue is were designs start becoming too much for me.

>she's from a dead series.
What are you talking about user t-tsukihime remake is coming out j-just wait. Nasu hasn't forgotten us. He's just taking a break, r-right.

>blazblue, melty blood and unist
those games look totally different though?

Melty designs are subdued as fuck, everybody is a dude in pants or a girl in a skirt. Only Sion and Wallachia have any details on their clothes at all.

Blazblue characters meanwhile are designed to look good in a story with a bunch of different sprites, and be redrawn often, looking good wearing a bunch of different costumes.

Unist characters are designed to look good in motion, a lot like an evolution of melty but more detailed.

They're really, really different, especially melty is much less 'generic anime bullshit' than even tekken or street fighter, aestethically, and close to the games of old that warranted simple designs because of having shitty graphics.

right after mahoyo pt 2 comes around :^)
