Skyrim Together (the online coop mod) is stealing code from the SKSE devs. The Skyrim together team is making about $34k/month off selling their mod using stolen code.
Skyrim Together (the online coop mod) is stealing code from the SKSE devs...
vestigial data
now fuck off shit stirrer
cool, sounds like capitalism
Who the fuck even plays Skyrim anymore?
>selling their mod using stolen code.
>stolen code
>code
This has to be a joke. You can't steal code. If I hired two people to write code that calculated 5 + 1 and they both did it the same did one steal the others work? No you can not steal code. Code is like writing. Only so many ways you can say "the sky is blue" and it is wasteful to try to extend statements meaninglessly
Why does Patreon breed so much evil? AfroBull did a drawing of the new PKMN girl with his link in the image day 1, holy fuck the cringe.
>You can't steal code
>Code is like writing
And writing can be stolen. Its called plagiarism. Even methods to calculate 5+1 can be stolen. If you are a mathematician, you are expected to cite when you use someone elses mathematical techniques.
m8 i dont even know how to code and I know how fucking retarded this post is. what a fucking moron.
go back
lol most of /tesg/ finally stopped playing it even
[concern]
Because human greed is a thing and not everyone on this planet is smart enough not to donate to some mod thats being shilled so hard
>WAH THEY ARE USING OUR CODE WE PUT OUT THERE FOR FREE!
i literally could not care less. i hope the coop is fun
I love when Yea Forums proves how fucking ignorant and idiotic they are. Dunning Kruger at its finest.
>modders make a closed source mod and whine when another closed source mod steals their closed source
Fuck everyone involved, mods should be open source. You can de-compile them, making things closed source is a waste of time. They're not even making money off of it. Hobbyists who make things closed source think they're God's gift to programming and that nobody deserves their code. They're all douchebags hiding behind things licenses for keeping their "credit" and not actual talent.
>No you can not steal code. Code is like writing.
You must be Chinese or Indian right. You guys are #1 when it comes to blatant plagerism and anti-copywrite shit. Fuck off back to whatever hole you came from
>and not actual talent.
I mean, that's more talent than stealing other people's code and making 34k a month for it.
>write code that calculated 5+1
>code is like writing
youtube.com
My main concern i cannot play skyrim together on pirated version of skyrim.
They deserve to be bullied for implementing anti-piracy.
NYPA(get fucked)
>The Skyrim together team is making about $34k/month off selling their mod using stolen code.
No, they're receiving money for a product.
The product didn't exist before they made it and got paid for it.
Developers reinvent the same algorithm all the time; sometimes there is only one way to solve the problem. I frequently discover that I've created methods that are the exact same as ones in the standard library.
It's just a loader, bro. The actual online multiplayer code is much more important than .dll injection, which has been done a million times in a million different ways.
Its because one or more of the devs are obviously Bethesda employees. They are probably the same people who were charged with hacking in multiplayer to Fallout for Fallout 76, and realized they could make $34k/month for porting those scripts over to Skyrim.
I bet you think you cant plagiarize a book either.
I guess you can't steal writing either...OH WAIT
WHAT THE FUCK IS "plagiarism"
You should just stop now before you embarrass yourself further. Sometimes it's okay to take an L
>I do not understand what programing is, I do not understand what big O is. I do not understand at all.
wrong there are multiple ways to solve a problem. Just because you all copy and paste the same one doesnt make it so.
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!
Its Skyrim no one fucking cares
Modern law has basically become like a fucking mafia don realizing they're not get a cut of some profit here or there. This shit is getting ridiculous.
Make a sorting algorithm right now without consulting any outside source. I can guarantee you it will be the same algorithm as one of these: brilliant.org
Embarrassing
>Code is like writing.
oh and writing is so famous for being uncopyrightable
Not an argument.
Plagiarism is a meme created by the left so that English majors won't run out of work.
>You can't steal code
>Code is like writing
There's an important distinction between writing a single sentence or a single line of code and writing a complex program or an entire book. I'll let you figure out why the former two aren't copyright-able and the later two are.
You can't legally copyright an algorithm. You can legally copyright an implementation of an algorithm.
Whether or not you think that the implementation is different from algorithm itself is a difference in perspective. Personally I think the implementation and the algorithm are the same. You can extrapolate the algorithm from the implementation, and an implementation can be created from the algorithm.
Wasn't the SKSE dev a total cunt that was in favor of paid mods? Fuck him.
i literally dont care
you want "le justice" go to reddit
you want unbridled opinion you can stay here maybe
no they were the cool ones, it was the cunt that did the inventory mod. i can't even remember the name of it. ummm skyUI?
Im glad I never got into coding with my soggy brain, I don't understand anything you said.
no. also there isn't a single SKSE dev, it's multiple people. you might be thinking of chesko.
he's thinking of schlongster
mighty reddit put their boot on his throat
Yeah, chesko is the fuck that wanted that, in fact he's kind of went AWOL since then, leaving most of his mods abandoned and broken
In fact I'm fairly convinced he's the one who worked on the CC Survival Mode
Ah right, I was confusing the two, because SkyUI needs SKSE. Then don't fuck him.
>If you are a mathematician, you are expected to cite when you use someone elses mathematical techniques.
My 1st grade math teacher taught me how to subtract 3-2. Cited!
why would he think people would be hyped to pay for a product they already had for free?
Jesus christ you're actually proud of being dumb.
>in fact he's kind of went AWOL since then, leaving most of his mods abandoned and broken
to be fair to him the game is now 8 years old. i don't think it'd want to work on the same mods for the same game for 8 years.
he was in the sneaky as fuck "beta" of steam paid mods there was much asshurt and tears. it was great watching.
Agreed, everyone else here is retarded. You can't steal knowledge. It is not like stealing someone's object, since it is just a recreation.
True
>reddit screencaps
Nothing else to expect from this board, in better times you'd have been publicly executed for being such a nigger.
If SKSE has a clause about it being usable only for non-profit works, then the people making multiplayer mod are fucked.
>intellectual property
Since when couldn't non-profits accept donations? :^)
>You can't legally copyright an algorithm
I'm not suggesting that the concept of math or logic is copyright-able. Implementation is specifically what is being referred to here. There are copy/pasted chunks of identical code used for an identical purpose, whether or not the similarities are significant enough is ultimately left to the court, however the idea that all methods of implementation shouldn't be copyright-able is absurd, to say the least, given that we're not talking about two lines of code here.
They have a clause that basically says "These fuckers can't use our code", like explicitly mentioning them, because they were shitheads. And they still did.
>Due to continued intentional copyright infringement and total disrespect for modder etiquette, the Skyrim Online team is explicitly disallowed from using any of these files for any purpose.
>AfroBull
>weeb/western artists
There's your problem.
Doesn't Bethesda ultimately own any and all mod code?
bethesda maintains that mod authors own their own mods.
that is what steam wanted to do. all while taking that 90% profit.
This site really needs some sort of fucking prerequisite. Middle school dropouts shouldn't have the ability to post.
at least not without getting paid, right..?
Shut the fuck up, retard. The only reason you should be required to cite someone else's work is to back yours up, not because "muh stealing knowledge!" The knowledge exists whether someone wrote it down or not, you fucking idiot.
>stealing code
>from a free mod
>b-but muh creddit and imaginary good boy praise
well, yes. paid mods for skyrim just exist in a different form with patreon.
It took a while but those faggots finally figured out that OpenMW has a future and Skyrim/TESVI doesn't
But is it stealing if they rewrite the code based on the other code but keep it basically the same?
I understand that's what's going on, and the way things currently work. I'm arguing that isn't the way that it should be. I think that only object files and a "work" should be copyrightable. The idea of copyrighting code has always been silly to me.
But that's neither here nor there. The SKSE dev team are doucehbags. Their product is a reverse engineered mod for something they didn't make, and they have the gall to make it closed source, and failed to provide an actual license until they said "you guys can't use it because you're making money off my work". I've seen doens devs like this, they all think they're hotshit and are far too overprotective of their code. They're just butthurt that someone is making money off their code, and they failed to provide a license for it. The Skyrim Together people will just make their own damn .dll injector.
in the mod community it's only stealing when you try to make profit
How is OpenMW ? Last time I heard about it, someone was trying to implement physics into the game, like chains and cloths.
i'm all for it, but the fact they're making money off of it is a little iffy. trust me -- i'd want modders to make some money sometimes, but for legal issues, is this okay?
So does the co-op mod work or what
>Holy shit we're making $34k a month making this mod!
>Uh oh, if we release a stable version of the mod, majority of the income will drop
>Better drag development out as long as we can
This is why patreon/kickstarter is stupid.
Is there any sauce on the pic related or is it just some shitty deviant art tier drawing?
it works but it still needs more polish
It's amazing that despite people quitting their jobs to work full time on crowdsource projects their work output stays pretty much the same as when they were doing the thing as a hobby in their free time.
fuck, i might have to buy skyrim on sale now
KEK for all you naysayers, shit-bethesda got a sale from me through this mod. pay the modders
I'm going to copyright 5+1 and while I'm at it also the word react
Very crashy from what I've seen, I'm no code expert but I'd guess its the result of spaghetti coding
The only way you can get full fledged multiplayer to work properly is to create a fresh engine for it, like OpenMW
Searching her name brings stuff up, can't dive into it right now to see what though
why are people who know nothing of coding feel the need to chime in on this? it's like i'm at a seminar for neoplatonism and community college shits come to chime in wrong ideas
they released it into public domain, why should they care if someone else is using it?
>OpenMW
how good is it compared to the original thing and the other TES games?
post your github/projects with timestamp
Seems to work 100% with mods, even better than the original version.
>paying for a mod
zoomers were a mistake
Based morrodrone keep shilling your mod
>Minecraft mod scene: no one is crying over usage of mods in modpacks without premission
>Skyrim mod scene: *autistic virgin screeching*
I fucking hate nexus.
>no one is crying over usage of mods in modpacks without premission
better than wolves
There was another one where it detected if the mod was in a pack and attacked the player or some shit.
I haven't followed the minecraft mod scene for years but you're still a fucking liar.
Found it
it was gregtech
pcgamesn.com
suck my dick, autismo block stacker
gonna copystrike this thread bet you see it reposted the comming days
>Searching her name brings stuff up
I hate creature comforts sometimes. I forgot I could just manually search myself typing in the name in the pic.
the prerequisite is the board chosen user
The worst boards are Yea Forums and Yea Forums. /k/ is people pretending to be retarded, Yea Forums is just snapchats and normalfag groups, /ck/ depends on the season, and every board is more or less the same.
If you actually want to talk about video games then your best bet is /vg/ or /vr/.
It fixes hard coded engine bugs and doesn't crash if you load more than 20 mods. Also it has support for someday implementing NV and Oblivion
isn't skse open source?
>hard coded engine bugs
Wait, how do you hard code a bug?
>hacked up this
>basically that
>almost exactly like x
unironically sounds like they are just mad
>build a playground for the neighborhood kids to use
>someone builds a fence around it and sets up a toll booth
>charges $5 for entry.
LOL BUT ITS OKAY BECAUSE YOU DID IT FOR FREE AMIRIGHT?
This thread is full of faggots.
hes right you know
but he's not
No. To this day 4-Leaf Studios has a lawyer sending out notices to people constantly. Katawa Shoujo was and is free, but they are constantly having to smack people down for using their assets on projects that generate income. The Script Extender team might not have that kind of money.
Did you not read any of this thread? The license attached to it specifically forbade that one team from using it due to their notoriety as being complete shitheads. They were legally not allowed to use it, for free or for profit.
more like
>build a playground for the neighborhood kids to use
>someone builds a copy of the playground with cooler stuff in it, but charges for entry
but keep on being a faggot I guess.
he is right
user's joke about addition suggests that he's not a mathematician and shouldn't be held to the standard of a professional
/vg/ is some of the worst though. At least the generals that I sometimes visit.
I don't think mods fall under any laws
Making money off other peoples work does
/vg/ depends on the general. if a game is new or if a series has a new game then it's usually got some good discussion. if it's something like an MMO then it will be pretty low quality; all of the worst generals i've seen were complete shit mmo generals unless it was something like /mmog/ where multiple games were discussed. mmos are usually bad because it degenerates into attention seeking faggots wanting to ERP, but even mmo generals have good discussion if it's relatively new.
one of the most based generals was the one for maplestory 2 before everyone quit. hell the fucking Yea Forums threads were comfy too. there was even a pretty good wiki for it by one of the anons there, and the pastebin user had a fuckton of bins managed, even a fuckin concert pastebin that had songs that anons made. they both quit a bit before I did and someone else is managing that place now, but that's enough blogposting
He means ones that can't be fixed with the Creation Kit. Stuff built into the libraries.
The /vg/ threads for FFXIV are so fucking obnoxious that we have to make threads on Yea Forums just to discuss the game.
It's constant Discord drama/attention whores who don't even play the game.
Open source works are still protected under the GNU license. One of the main parts of which says nothing inside it can be copied used for profit.
>The Skyrim together team is making about $34k/month off selling their mod using stolen code.
please don't tell me that fucking garbage has a $34k patreon
I don't want to lose any more faith in humanity
The design itself is still being ripped off. The design is what is known as "intellectual property" and work goes into creating that property well before it's materialized. The same rules apply. Someone else is profiting off your work - and pretending they were the ones that came up with the IP in the first place.
>all these goodie two shoe faggots complaining and threatening to get the project shut down
i fucking hate reddit so much
Anything can have a license attached. Most larger mods are protected by the GNU. Little item edits and Creation Kit tweaks aren't, but full blown scripting mods are definitely protected.
You're right about generals being at their best during the beginning. There's such a large amount of posters and discussion that no one can stand out, yet.
The other good ones were for a niche audience or series. Though these days they tend to just stay on Yea Forums until they die off because /vg/ would just bump them off.
Generals get worse as they get older. Once a certain "type" of person becomes predominant, it's no longer inviting to outsiders and they can be very unforgiving for asking a question about some obscure mechanic in a game that they feel everyone on the planet should know. They're all fucking idiots. Generals with games that have a less masculine following tend to be friendlier, like The Sims General.
They also force people to use their servers and don't want to implement private servers so that if people want to play it they have to contribute to their patreon, it's fucked. I'm surprised bethesda hasn't taken it down yet
How is /hpgg/ these days?
>you want unbridled opinion you can stay here maybe
christ almighty, people really listen and take on board the things that people say here, huh? that is hilarious
Jesus Christ why
I mean, I'd have done the same in their place but I'd be hurting inside that people are retarded enough to fall for it
if they were releasing it for free i wouldn't care, charging for stolen assets is a bitch move.
>there one day may be 64bit, stable NV
The promised day may yet arrive, brothers! Imagine walking from Nipton to New Vegas, and the game doesn't crash.
to this day I still can't play NV due to it lagging heavily whenever I fucking shoot, and I have all the fixes in the world and a PC that can power 3 fucking VRs simultaneously
>stealing a mod's code
>stealing
>mods
yeah.......................no
Big titty anime girls with in depth customization.
I don't believe you and get fucked
ALexander fucking Velicky. Why you delete your post, you sneaky bugger?
I don't care that the post is deleted I'm still replying
Stop releasing shit games that you'll "fix" a year later in DLC
I know it's you. Who else would be hanging out in a Skyrim/Fallout post and mention working for Bungie. Falskaar was my favorite mod for Skyrim. They shoulda let you fuck8ng fix Destiny instead of just bughunting.
I don't know how copyright works in whatever shithole you live in, but profiting from someone elses work is pretty much plagiarism 101, and this is a textbook case of that
Make D2 Forsaken free for people with the expansion pass
fuck you guys, seriously
Jesus, that's petty as fuck. The SKSE people sound like the shitheads to me.
