I typically prefer Bamco's fighters and can admit that their efforts with UE4 in Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 are fucking shit, and also that DOA's generally always been a visually nicer series than Tekken (not Soul Calibur usually though). It was also one of the last fighting series to have a way for people to work together ant not exclusively against one another. Again, a nice way to introduce casuals. Goes for 2 v AI in Survival (loved it) or 2 v 2 players.

That said, I did think the demo was good and that the fundamentals seem good. I was worried about meter in DOA but it seems to be fine.

I think that's just a DOA problem. Back when they looked like anime characters, the lack of emoting wasn't as much of an issue but their shift in art makes the stone faces VERY noticeable. Nyo's lip lick animation might just be the most animation I've seen on a DOA's face.

There's nothing is wrong with the hold-system in the DOA series because it makes your opponents cautious not to mash buttons within a certain range or section (i.e HIGH, MID and LOW attacks), like there's nothing wrong with the parry-system in Third Strike. It's meant to be implemented by people that have the skill and knowledge to completely negate your opponents momentum in a match by COUNTERING.
