Lets create a game Yea Forums, a Yea Forums themed fighting game. Previous thread devolved into an autistic circlejerk about nu-Yea Forums memes and how horrible they are. For that reason the game will now focus on a roster of board tans, no pepes and wojaks (for now). I'm using the Godot engine for this game, github can be found here: github.com/NEET-FEET/That-Fight-When the game will be fully open source and multiplatform.
>HOW CAN I HELP??? Depends on your skills. >drawfag We need sprites, turn your favorite board tan into a sprite and I'll add it in the game. We haven't settled on an art direction, but I think anime looking sprites will be good. A standing, walking and punshing sprite is all that's needed for now, look at classic fighting games like Street Fighter sprites for inspiration. >/g/ fag You can clone the source code and help me out with the code, I'm thinking about mainly sticking with GDscript because it's high level and optimized for node based game design offered in the Godot engine. >normalfag Ideas, jokes and shitposts. Post whatever comes to mind in this thread, highly welcome are ideas pertaining movesets, gameplay, story, different gamemodes, setting, etc, etc.
Just embrace the nature of Yea Forums. Everyone who contributes anything should steal everything else to make their own game. Would actually be an interesting gamejam. You must use something from everyone else's game.
Hudson Brooks
Yea Forums's level 3 better be Robot Unicorn Attack.
only thing you'll get from /g/ is someone saying they'll make the logo
Jack King
I've had this idea for a while, it's good to see someone with actual skills, motivation and ambition picking up on it too.
Xavier Murphy
I'm developer that has worked on this sort of thing before. You need a hierarchy, mission statement, and you need a game design document. This is the only way to prevent drama and ensure you don't stray from your original goal. You can't have a cohesive product without a unified vision.
Grayson Jones
wojak is the best meme Yea Forums created, don't tell me otherwise
William Ward
Are we going for all boards or a certain number? If the latter than we should probably come up with a decently sized feasible roster, like 8-12.
Wyatt Richardson
IT NEEDS TO BE >COMFY >KINO >LEGENDARY >LOTS OF SO SATISFYING COMBAT
Ethan Hill
Projects like this usually fail. Look at Broquest for example. It had everything going for it and still failed.
Not a prof developer, studying actually atm, but this. Basically what I learned the hard way
Ian Thompson
What game did you work on, was it Dream vs Dream?
Aiden Miller
>making a fighting game Yuk dudes Good luck, that's fucking impossibile.
Samuel Butler
lol faggot, just put five thousand different fighters in there and let em slap each other around, who gives a fuck if its cohesive. you're never gonna make it in this industry bro, sorry.
Jose Reyes
Should also make it so no matter who knocks the other out when /pol/ fights, it always says /pol/ wins.
I can barely code without smashing my face with a hammer, I ain't got time to do some hodge podge bullshit when I can barely make a management sim and it's taken me ages to just cobble together bullshit. I even scrapped the whole thing to start over in Unity.
Eli Allen
Yea Forums /vr/ /d/ /int/ [s4s] /pol/ /jp/ /x/ Yea Forums /o/ /mlp/ These are the most popular board-tans with the most existing fanart I think.
Is this a continuation from the vaporware in 2014?
Robert Peterson
*Yea Forums
Fuck off storm nigger
Aaron Reed
>/mlp/ >no Yea Forums
Yikes!
Parker Reed
Oh and Yea Forums of course.
Thomas Roberts
It had nothing going for it. There was one artfag and no one who could code or was willing to drop what they were doing and be subject to the autism of the idea guys.
Cameron Smith
moot as a secret fighter ?
Luis Rogers
>not getting the meme fuck off newfag.
Juan Turner
>Yea Forums Leave that abomination out of this, please.
Evan Cooper
did I miss HARMONY?
Gavin Perez
dont you remember Project Hate Machine Greed will bring ruin yet again...
Connor Torres
>Using Godot It's already dead. Make sure /d/-tan has an overpowered vore grab if you somehow make it.
LTG should be put in the game, and you don't even need to draw a whole sprite, you can just do it like the original MK games with screenshots from his videos.
And he also should be made the most OP character too.
Ryan Rivera
>asking Yea Forums, one of the worst boards on Yea Forums, about making a Yea Forums-themed game Take my advice and this is coming from browsing 13 years on this shit hole. Go to /agdg/ on /vg/. you have a better chance at getting help and support there than this board. This board lost its identity a long ass time ago and barely qualifies for any form of OC to the point they don't even recognize rage guy but make 100 variations of wojaks and pepes. Fucking /pol/ and Yea Forums has a better OC department than this. More proof of this is why THQ Nordic chose 4+Yea Forums's Yea Forums than Yea Forums Yea Forums.
On top of that, you were not the first, and won't be the last, to make any Yea Forums-themed game. loads came and all either disappeared or downright cancelled due to mixed management, clashing ideals, and just plain ego-tripping. This is how Yea Forums musicals went to shit and Yea ForumsGA pandered to reddit and twitch
If you really want to stick around, please don't use discord. This is how a downfall begins and I don't even know why. Whenever discord is introduced to anything on this site, it all goes downhill, see /vg/ generals, Yea Forums musicals, Yea Forumsermin, and almost Yea Forumsidya rumble
make green Anonymous the training dummy also this x100
Supers shouldn't be easy to do so I'd say take inspiration from Street Fighter/Guilty Gear for super inputs none of this qcb+s or A+B+K or f+S bullshit easy supers when it comes to gravity/combo potential I really liked SF3 3S but more people would probably appreciate how Hyper DBZ Champ handled it
Would it even be possible to make a 2D fighting game without ToD? 3S and USF4 sort of circumvent this by making combo scaling absolutely ridiculous. Dead or Alive almost completely removes ToD by making juggles quick and allowing your opponent to counter an attack up to the 3rd hit but that's a 3D fighter
Also whatever you go for OP, ADD A UNIVERSAL PARRY similar to 3rd Strike's. It's incredibly risky but has either a huge payoff or you get punished for not being skilled enough. and no comeback mechanics. Comebacks should come from skill and knowledge/mind games instead of the game trying to hand you a win
Kayden Howard
>We'll never get an oldfag Yea Forums fighting game >Happy Negro will never fight Cockmongler on top of XBOX HUEG
Would the game have echo fighter like characters? Board's like Yea Forums and Yea Forums have too much overlap for them to really be their own characters.
Just passing through to say this user is correct. /vg/ can be a real shithole for different reasons than Yea Forums, but some threads are actually decent. /agdg/ is probably your best bet if you haven't posted there already. You might get a few serious and genuine posts, but ultimately, Yea Forums is just for shitposting, not producing content.
Jace Clark
>not /jp/ nigga
Carter Martin
Yea Forums maskot is a texudo pepe
Caleb Robinson
someone create a discord tranny fighter that has mediocre stats, a tendency to do damage to their self, but sends the opponent into a seething rage that stunlocks them for about 5 seconds
It should be CIA. His level 3 is he sends you to the Kinoplex on No Singles Night.
Jayden Flores
fuck you and fuck Yea Forums
Carson Wright
imo we should use for reference for the roster an interesting idea i have is let's make Yea Forums have the slowest walk speed but the fastest run speed in the game. Fast attacks can work, but also make sure he has no ranged attacks. /d/ should be nothing but kicks and have medium range, to sort of go with the deviant personality.
Jonathan Thomas
>hierarchy Is on top of the hierarchy on his own github branch, but anons are free to fork the code and take lead of their own branch. pure ideology >mission statement lmao, corporate bullshit. pure ideology >game design document some documentation might be nice but for the most part unnecessary, again pure ideology. >prevent drama drama is enjoyable. >stray from your original goal doesn't have to be a bad thing.
pepe has much more character and board culture in it, there is no point in arguing. pepe, wojak, spurde sparde, virgin and chad should all be fighters
Isaac Foster
i was thinking more of the extra sensual femme fatale deal, with emphasis on feet.
Eli Gray
/d/ should basically be Shuma Gorath but an anime girl
Connor Allen
resetera invading Yea Forums
William Morris
that pic is honestly underselling the amount of autistic drama there was in the musical.
Noah Gutierrez
I know how you feel bro, but lets not forget that harmony lives inside all of us, ALWAYS
Jack Brooks
I never went to those threads, how bad was it?
Jeremiah Russell
Alright. let's take actual measures to make sure this shit doesn't peter out after a few days or so. first up, spread it to other boards, don't be an ass about it and spam it everywhere but at least /vg/ who has actual /g/ anons there should know. next up actually record everything, nothing should be lost. also make every OP have every bit of info easily accesible so anyone can join. and lastly, remember to have at least a few backups so if Yea Forums for some reason gets hyper shitpost-y about it you can still get people working on it
Austin Campbell
do you know those Facebook screencaps of thirsty indians?
Imagine this but multiplied by 10 times on discord and Yea Forums musical threads. There's a fucking reason the recent Yea Forums musicals have barely any femanons
Grayson Bell
I think he could be a super attack of Yea Forums tan. Like pic related, Dan's Jun Goku Satsu where he summons his dad. Yea Forums could "launch" Todd against the enemy and create a nightmarish animation that ends with a pop up windows that says: >Are you sure you want to install Fallout 4? >Yes >Yes I'd love to work on it.
was it compilled in either screencaps or archives? this sounds like a fucking wild ride
Lucas Jenkins
Meme assist trophies. Make it so. Also based move. Where you have a suit and top hat on, tap a glass in a closeup, and everyone on screen receives damage. Maybe after one target receives more damage than everyone else.
>inserting board chans. are you really sure it will work? i think going local would work far better, just things this place has as a whole (as in, no wojaks) done overall.
Robert Hill
This is pretty cool I would actually like to work on this. I’m a bit of a draw fag. Can someone make a google docs or a discord I wanna stay in touch with you fags
Eventually all, but we gonna focus on two board tans in the beginning to get the gameplay right. shhh Yeah, will post on /agdg/. It doesn't matter that this board is cancer, I only need to reach those anons that can contribute. I'm aware of the many Yea Forums collaborative projects that failed but I trust in myself to push this one through. No discord is a good one, but wasn't planning on using it since it isn't /g/ approved. Great post, desu my greatest weakness going into this project is that I'm an absolute casual when it comes to fighting games. echo? please elaborate maybe, I should ask /bant/ first. I think for now we should limit the roster to just two board tans so I can focus on making them playable, once they are we can add 1 character to the roster each iteration. maybe in the future or as spin off game. It won't be difficult to add characters once the majority of the programming is done.
Ryan Nguyen
>discord
no please I don't want some vagina to come and then half the fucking anons will just orbitate over her and she will act innocent while knowing she is doing jack shit and she is just there for the attention.
Samuel Perez
So... who's on the roster rn?
Levi Morgan
don't you think using MUGEN is much easier i know godot is a lot modern but MUGEN has an already a great built in fighting game engine
Cameron Russell
The. How the fuck are we gonna stay in touch? After this thread gets archive we’ll be stuck back on square one.
Cameron Gomez
I do have an idea for wojack. make one of his moves summon a "clone" which one you get is random, every clone would be one of the endless edits Yea Forums has and will make of him. they would be very weak and would die off automatically in a few seconds (just like the real thing) but the move could potentially be spammed, which some sort of diminishing returns to avoid it being anything more than an annoyance.
Ayden Flores
I'm that drawfag who did the wojack pose from the last thread. I'd be down for some quick ideas
>getting buttblasted they weren't picked for an Q&A
Andrew Gomez
Ok but lets put some rules:
1) If somebody is not contributing anything to the game and are just in the discord doing nothing and is known to be active in the server they should be banned.
2) No off-topic/general channel, they will only bring trouble, if you want to be frens with fellow dev user just PM him. And if you wanna shitpost just make a thread.
3) Voice channels locked unless there will be a meeting.
4) No dramas, any dramas should be put to a halt and if members just want to stirr up shit they will be banned on sight.
Use MUGEN. Yes I'm the same faggot as the last thread but I'm telling you again because I actually want you to succeed.
Parker Lewis
This idea sharing is nice and all. but i'm here to remind you something you need to code this shit, don't be unreasonable or the project is going to be abandoned like every other time Yea Forums tried their hand at creating a game
Austin Flores
/bant/ has their own -tan. There's also a variation with a Cirno dress.
echoes are like clones in a way, think ryu and ken
Ryan Collins
i agree on this
dare i say use IKEMEN if you guys want to make it playable online
Bentley Stewart
Use MUGEN, it will save a LOT of time
Justin Garcia
This
Zachary Peterson
yeah literally just use mugen, trying to make your own fighting game from scratch is gonna be fucking hell
Oliver Taylor
>MUGEN
As long as Omega Tiger Woods is a secret character.
Oliver Long
MAKE A DISCORD
Landon Parker
OP, if you're still here and listening. how about if to keep it manageable you limit the roster size? 12 characters should be plenty to represent Yea Forums as a whole and even add a guest character. any more and you start being unreasonable considering this place attention span
OP here on it currently no need for voice work, but further down the road we definitely need voices. no discord, maybe something else. Might gonna add a shared google drive folder. Gonna need to set up some more ways to stay in touch, thinking about it. Might be easier but I really want to work with Godot and think the extra difficulty will pay off. yes! also I posted the github rule 0) no botnet (discord) Nah, I also want to improve my own programming skills and if I finish the basics I can create a Godot template to share so others can also use Godot to make fighting games. I also don't like MUGENs license, I actually am motivated and excited to use Godot and when looking at MUGEN my excitement drops. not on my watch I'm thinking of limiting the roster to 2 characters till it's playable if that makes sense, then go on to add a character each iteration nice don't worry I'm not in the mood for Cringescord
Isaac Ward
You're not getting added to the game, so don't post selfies.
No, make the Virgin a decent character but only through obscene combos and absolute mastery of his moves.
Then make the Chad have zero combo potential but have each attack do exactly 1 more point of damage than the Virgin's combos.
Gavin Price
You need a guy for only ideas since everyone else is going to be busy multitasking.
Dylan Cooper
>I'm thinking of limiting the roster to 2 characters till it's playable Alright, 2 characters is still a hurdle to leap over, but it can be done even with Yea Forums kid tier attention span
I think toychan would have good moveset potential, using ordinary playthings like an extendable boxing glove and toy rocket come to mind.
Jonathan Mitchell
>All white Yeah your gonna need to add some PoC OP
James Taylor
>more that the license isn't free as in freedom Okay then, I can respect that. 99% of these projects die after a month or two but I wish you the best.
Luke Wright
>Great post, desu my greatest weakness going into this project is that I'm an absolute casual when it comes to fighting games. Glad you liked it Being casual is fine (I doubt most fightan developers would be able to compete in their own game at a competitive level). I'm not super great at fighting games myself but I have a very mechanical mindset and have a thing for skill-based games I also have a lot of fighting game experience under my belt. Are you going to post more regularly on /agdg/ or will I be able to reliably follow progress just browsing Yea Forums? I'd like to be able to provide input and bounce ideas off of people
Ethan Bennett
not op but, we should start with the most straightforward characters first and then go with the weirdos, which also should mean /d/ and /x/ would be the last ones added if they make the "cut"
Zachary Wilson
>I also don't like MUGENs license >Under this license, permission is granted to use the M.U.G.E.N Environment free of charge for non-commercial purposes. >The M.U.G.E.N Environment is copyrighted by Elecbyte and may not be used for commercial purposes in whole or in part, altered or unaltered, without Elecbyte's express written permission.
Funny thing, just yesterday I was daydreaming about making a game featuring board tans. Well, it was more of a "Poker night at the inventory" kinda deal, but a fighting game is fun too >Made in Godot Good stuff, that engine's a real diamond in the rough, and I'm happy everytime I hear someone's making something with it I'd be glad to lend a hand where I can. I can help a little bit with programming, depending on what you need, but I don't use Github so I don't know how easy to work with that would be for you. Otherwise I also got some minor art skills, I could work on fighter placeholder sprites, and some 3D if need be (maybe for stages?)
Also, here's a tip: fighters are a lot of work, so keep things as simple as you can. Each new move and mechanic is so much more programming work you have to do, and even more art assets to produce. No one is gonna be playing this competitively, so to keep it interesting prioritize fun and spectacle over actual depth. Keep only what you need to keep, for example maybe it doesn't need 6 buttons to work, maybe keep it at 4, or if you really wanna cut the fat go the Smash bros way and make it 2 buttons + directions. Start by making sure the engine is functioning and reliable, and aim for something like 4-6 playable characters for the first version, before working on more. I think that way, it has a better chance of actually coming to fruition.
Anyway, whether or not I can help I'll be keeping a close eye on this project. It's always interesting when Yea Forums gets off its ass and actually tries to do something every now and then, and I'd be glad to give it my support.
So what will the standards for the characters be outside of board-tans? Just to get a point of reference, what are the chances for these guys for making it in? >Bane/CIA >64 Mario (holding the A button) >some Katawa Shoujo rep Just for reference, since we got a meme that became a staple of Yea Forums, a meme that really took off on Yea Forums even if the hype died down a bit since then, and a character from a Yea Forums made game
I can't really draw but im pretty ok with effects and shit like that (the gif is from an rpg im working on). Do you need any specific effect for the game?
Probably will keep making threads here on Yea Forums
Nicholas Ross
I have some decent Godot experience and can help you out with the technical stuff, keep using it because it's an actual game engine unlike MUGEN.
Justin Ross
do jizz after affects for /d/
Levi Perez
Pretty cool. Stick around these threads.
Alexander Jenkins
>0 mentions of Yea Forumsermin add wargraav
Ryan Ortiz
Holy shit user that is some good shit!
Henry James
/toy/ i see as the one character who keeps the enemy at bay by copious uses of traps, it has the material after all (toy planes, mini robots, lego on the floor) Yea Forums kun can literally be anything, from pure gimmick to a near clone
Ian Phillips
that's really good, user! What software do you use for making effects?
Oh right, Yotsuba has to be in. How about making her the referee/the announcer?
William Richardson
Figures. I know that animation is a fucking bitch to do, but still, fuck Patreon. Who knows, maybe he'll agree for old time's sake.
Brayden Anderson
and Snacks as echo
Lincoln Martinez
You could try, at least.
Henry Scott
I doubt that this is going to succeed, but I'm cheering for you anyway. The code is the most important part, if people see the game running, drawfags will flock over. Don't give up.
So is it gonna play like street fighter or are we going full arcsys?
Lucas Ramirez
OP here nice, yeah I'm planning on keeping it simple and adding complexity only when things are working fine. If you want to help with programming I could teach you the basics of git. Funny that you was thinking about a game with board tans yesterday. Currently I'll focus on the board-tans it will take a while before anything else will be added but anything will be possible very nice >Do you need any specific effect for the game? currently no, but in the future definitely. Hope you'll be able to contribute then. Glad to hear that someone is in agreement over my usage of Godot instead of MUGEN
If you're serious about making the game, then a patreon might be helpful once development is further up. Don't lock the game behind a paywall, just have it as a optional tipjar. Either that or have a Ko-Fi.
This is never gonna work. I remember Neon V, a game project by a bunch of Yea Forumsirgins (me included) that went nowhere real fast. This place is too unorganized and there is no accountability. Unless you're like a handful of people at most that closely communicates, then maybe it could work.
Parker Diaz
,...i think that's the thing that comes before the first draft is even defined.
Robert Brooks
MUGEN is still around and still exists and is still good for many reasons user.
You'd save yourself so much time and effort and drawfags and ideaguys would be 10000% more invested if all the "Hard" work was done first.
I mean if people can make a fucking virus character that bricks your PC as a special move, I'm sure you can make a bunch of board-tans mechanically and then have drwafags finish it off.
Ayden Reed
Patreon is going to seriously damage people's enthusiasm if this going to go anywhere.
It's not going to look good immediately, but you're right that it looks pretty sloppy, I wonder if OP is actually good at coding.
Daniel Powell
But Yotsuba hasn't ever had a voice for reference so how would that work?
More like SNK fighters >3v3 >proper running >4 button layout >hops, hyper hops, jumps and hyper jumps >air guard >ground roll >assists >Super Meter, limit increases by 1 once a team member is down >Super Desperation Moves once player is at 25% of HP/pressing both strong punch or kick buttons at the same time
Chase Miller
>If you want to help with programming I could teach you the basics of git Oh, I know how git works, its just that I don't like using github. But if it's the only way this is gonna work, guess I'll bite my tongue and make a dummy account or something. Good to see you already got some basic movement going on. What's gonna be the next step? Support for different player states? A hitbox system? There's a lot of thing we can work on before we have to start implementing different movesets.
Speaking of movesets, does anyone here have contacts with people over at /fgg/? I figure, if there's anyone around here who can give us tips on how to make a simple yet fun fighting game, it's gotta be them, right?
Jordan Hall
I work (wageslave) full time, the game will be free and open source forever. Not interested in money, a tip jar in the future might be a good idea but I would want to distribute the money fairly to anons that contributed.
Who said she had to have a voice? A macro of her and a speech bubble are enough
Lucas Torres
I can pull some fast models and objects in blender. Maybe environments or stages. I could whip on some sprites or animations as well. I'll get started on it and report hack here or lookg for the thread.
Cameron Martinez
are you OP because I 110% adamantly disagree with that Super Desperation Move shit ESPECIALLY if it's that fucking easy to do
Swordsman style fighter, but he uses images and posts instead.
Kayden Taylor
brawler/grappler like Bayman or Android 16 (without the rocket shit) focus on more realistic hand-to-hand combat moves since there's nothing super remarkable about him or we could go full meme shit and make him a shoto complete with a tatsumaki, dp, and hadoken maybe even a Raging Demon
I like this idea more desu just have some quips of her in menus and loading screens just being cute or giving some helpful tips maybe even some banter with during loading screens
Joshua Wilson
>Yea Forumsnrad can use Optic Blast >/mlp/ is an amalgamation of different Them Fightin Herds moves Any other references from other fighting vidya?
Nathan Scott
spilling spaghetti out of his pockets
David Howard
fuck yes spurdo should be in if it's mascot fighting rather than board tans.
Kevin Murphy
Whatever happened to that Internet Hate Machine game that one user was making?
Jaxson Taylor
I mean, I guess something like those voices could work if done well but I dunno. That sounds like a pretty good idea. Oh no
I opened a pull request on the repo with some changes, mostly just some structural changes so it doesn't become a hot mess of duplications and files all over the place when you start adding more fighters.
Ayden Bennett
It's been so long. I almost forgot. EFG threads were the best.
I'm not much into coding but I saw that you're using if else statements for keypresses and movement Not sure if it would work here but this guy making a zelda-like game uses this weird "match" thing with variables pertaining to directions that can be referenced by both the player and NPCs that would move independent of the player youtube.com/watch?v=gJxiLIEFpv0 He talks about it at around 6:01 Hope this helps!
Lucas Lopez
i know isn't the biggest board, but what about /m/-tan for this game, their tan is literally made for this kind of stuff and has already existing moves that could be used as moveset, plus Mechs and Toku stuff I guess.
Seriously don't use discord Use Email like professionals and skype when you need to specifically use voice
Jordan Bell
/d/ should be a hooded figure that occasionally reveals a writhing mass of tentacles when it attacks like that one DD enemy.
Austin Wilson
READ THIS POST YOU FUCK This is NOT the first attempt at a Yea Forums fighting game the last one I remember I almost got to voice /vg/ chances are it will be just as successful (I.E. not) YOU NEED TO ORGANIZE YOURSELVES AND DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO AVOID BURNOUT/GROUP DETERIORATION
make a roadmap, speculate how long those aspects will take to complete, GIVE YOURSELF DEADLINES please CREATE SOME SORT OF HIERARCHY/EXECUTIVE DECISION MAKING PROCESS TO KEEP THE PROJECT ON TRACK, A DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK HERE, YOU WILL BURNOUT
You have passion now, but that will fade quickly as you inevitably have to grind out the rest of the game
t. have lead numerous projects with creative/coding types good luck im cheering you on
I recommend using Trello for organization, it's pretty simple and free* but it helps me a lot in my solo projects and it's easy to add more people to it, you can also set it to public so everyone can see the todo cards and such.
Ryan Clark
Many of those are ancient by 4channel standards, and shitette will never ever be a meme.
Elijah Brooks
Github has project management too, I don't see the point
Ian Nelson
I never used the github management stuff but trello is comfy
Zachary Cruz
People on this board can't even count to 10, you're dreaming if you think they can make a competent game
Adrian Fisher
Bowsette did nothing wrong
Nathan Cook
lol no it's on the same level as pepe and wojak
Thomas Bailey
>it's popular so it's bad
Ethan Thomas
more like >it's new so its bad
Chase Green
there we go
Gavin Russell
you can add like a SCP reference
Aiden Bailey
Normalfag here This is probably just my preference but when i think of my favorite fighter it's always the games where the dev team really didn't know what they were doing yet (mainly sf2) so while i think it's good to look at mechanics and designs from other games i think you might benefit from trying to just think of your own frame data and combo potential and maybe just have some basic idea in mind (short and sweet combos: third strike / short and dirty: with set ups for really hard to block things SF2 / juggling: anime fighter like guilty gear or UNI). But the most fun games are always the ones where i just kinda feel like everything is stupid but it's fun stupid
Brandon Allen
I don't think I've seen le monkey face used much since 2012, back when Yea Forums was making fun of shitty Reddit memes.
John Rogers
maybe you should start with a simpler genre. Like platforming.
Benjamin Sanchez
this was already tried before and it was called project hate machine
Christopher Hernandez
>New character: "/tfg/" >It's /mlp/-tan in disguise
yeah was about to do that myself, I quickly put together something and it ended up pretty sloppy. Thanks. Nice, will look into it Okay, I will. I will when it's needed.
fighting game fag here, whatever you do, do not make the animations look like jankshit or you'll get crap like shaq-fu. make the hits look, sound and feel satisfying
Ian Davis
I could maybe provide ideas, voice work, and concept art. Can't sprite, but might be able to sketch poses and move ideas.
Chase Adams
is this game going to have a story mode or something like that?
Charles Kelly
I hope Yea Forums has a lot of MvC references in his moveset.
Matthew Gray
Why is Yea Forumss character literally just a stickman, again?
Anthony Ward
>Yea Forums >creating things ???????????
Juan Johnson
Moot is kill and the tans need to find his killer. It's Hiro
Charles Gutierrez
Will try to accomplish that but it probably will take a couple of versions Great, nice to see anons that are willing to contribute Eventually, the first thing on the roadmap is a solid arcade mode. There will definitely be a story mode once we got good gameplay.
Jose Hall
This nigga right here. Yeah have fun wasting your time mate.
Benjamin Green
Who would you fight in the story mode? Would there be some board-tans/memes working for Hiro?
Julian Price
if you want, i can help the team in creating the arcade mode of /x/ with some SCP references, sice /x/ created SCP way back in 2006
Caleb Bailey
I dunno just comming up with random stuff i'm not op, but Hiro would be a good final boss for Arcade mode
Isaac Wright
who drew this?
Jaxson Butler
SCP-682 as /x/-tan's level 3
Anthony Sullivan
Jannies
Michael Gonzalez
bumping out of interest, inb4 nothing comes out of this
Daniel Williams
>Yea Forums doesnt have their own tan >while even /trash/ has it ohohnononono
Isaac Baker
/qa/ is working for Hiro and they're the second to last fight in the arcade like Motaro is to Shao Kahn in MK3 arcade ladder
Justin Bennett
moot snacks cock mongler happy negro teh rei nevada tan raptor jesus syobon spurdo sans undertale
Use a proxy gauge that, when filled, makes your attacks faster (because you can shitpost more) And please, do think of the little details like Yea Forums not being able to have the same double digits except 00 (so they start at 98HP instead of 99 because of that)
Nathan Hughes
i dont like this idea, i think that this mechanic would eliminate the option of having slower characters
Elijah Moore
Just sketched this concept doodle right now for incorporation of 173 into x-tan's moveset. I also don't know the characterizations of board-tans all that well but had the idea of x-tan having a cross between a creepy child and "I don't know what's going on" personality. Was mostly inspired by Zappa from GG.
This one's a bit old, but I've touched it up. More "fighting-y" for ya. instaud.io/3mfb
I use FL Studio 12. The samples are linked in the video that's the first result if you google "CPS3 samples".
Hudson Howard
He’s one of the story mode antagonists.
Jaxon Phillips
amateur coding fag here, dunno how much I could be of help
Xavier Turner
I know it's old but could be better, the guitar gets obnoxious about 30 seconds in
Charles King
does OP want a combofest game with 30 hit combos or something more slow and methodical with a focus on fundamentals and neutral
Ryder Sanders
You should start out with only anonymous and the board tans are obtained via story mode. You go to various locations representing different types of boards to try to save the b@ board chans from the broken ban hammer that enslaved them.
Angel Reyes
Bump
Adam Thompson
OP here, I decided which 2 characters to start with: Yotsuba and Green user. They aren't board tans but might be for the better because of specialized movesets and other reasons. I did my best creating a sprite using GIMP of Yotsuba, I had the luck of finding a nice png of Yotsuba's head and drew a body under it. there is a bit of alpha leakage between some of the lines but I think it's good for now. Also have a basic idea of the story and setting, the main protagonist will be green user and yotsuba your guide, trainer and leads you through the beginning of the story. Lol posted exactly as I type this, yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking off except for the ban hammer stuff which sounds pretty good. Yeah, will make a google doc. expect it in the next thread. pretty nice, Maybe will also make a gitlab, thinking about getting a VPS, also host a website and blog. But I'll just avoid being to edgy for now. Sick, like the idea. Really awesome user, I'll use your tunes for the first few versions. You can clone the git repo and run it in the Godot engine. The coding done thus far is minimal but there already are some moveable characters. don't know yet.
Calling Wojak OC is like calling Mickey Mouse OC. Technically true at some point, but not the fuck anymore
Colton White
>You can clone the git repo and run it in the Godot engine. The coding done thus far is minimal but there already are some moveable characters. Have to check it out later, it's late where I am from
Jaxon Phillips
B would summon memes He could throw pepes, wojaks, and pool closers
Nolan Hughes
Do you work on the 4th mom? That sprite seems like a mother 4 one...
Lincoln Bailey
I don't think Yotsuba should be playable and instead just a menu/loading screen mascot for the game
Brandon Moore
>no pepes and wojaks >only board tans thank fucking god. Even if they are Yea Forums created, they're dead and overused as fuck.
only addition I'd add are pedobear/spurdo or some other variant, and green anonymous user unless he's going to be the Yea Forums board tan. Yotsuba has to be in a non-combat role though, maybe as an announcer or sitting somewhere in an options menu
be sure to make Yea Forums a tranny just so they'll get buttblasted once they find out about it
Jonathan Foster
i cant belive what im saying, but both made me laugh
Jonathan Hughes
>/d/ >not a /d/ickgirl ??
Parker Allen
Yea Forums is either one of two things; 1. The token "weird" fighter with transforming, unpredictable, or contortion-like moves, such as Voldo, Norimaro, or pic related 2. That but a bullshit-tier arcade final boss
>yotsuba she is pure and must not fight. Make it the Rage Yea Forums guy
Wyatt Lewis
Why is Yea Forums literally just a guy? Could use some vidya references.
Jaxon King
>no pepes and wojaks (ever)* FTFY OP. Fuck Wojacks and Pepes.
Jordan Jackson
personally I think that the game we make shouldn't be too anime in regards to gameplay. graphics can be as animu as you want, but a lot of faggots here are casuals so keep the ToDs and other jank minimal
i don't remember what the /f/-tan looked like since i'm pretty sure that there was one, but it needs a Yea Forums city reference in the level 3/5/whatever you're doing super
definitely agree with the others that yotsuba is too pure and should be either an announcer or somewhere on the menus when you select modes/stages/options
Maybe make the ban hammer moot if the ban hammer isnt good enough for a boss fight.
Isaiah Jackson
Discord causes a downfall because it ends the anonymity, most likely.
Evan Gomez
only if he's the main villain of the game
Henry Torres
>Yea Forums themed fighting game. It's that time of the year, huh...
Landon Roberts
I'll wait on the first decent sprite to appear to get an idea and then I can help a bit. Is it going to be pixelated? I don't have the equipment for digital art but I like to think that I'm an above average artist, so maybe I can do some sketches and then someone traces them digitally.
Bentley Russell
Yea Forums's board tan needs a guy faukes mask on as a reference if not as an alt costume
you remember that gif of the rotating dick? well he uses dicks as ninja stars
Mason Green
Hmm, I was thinking of making her as the last unlockable character. She would be very cute and progresses you through the story but stays at the sidelines. Eventually if you beat and unlocked all the board tans she would ask you 'do you think your strong enough to beat me?' She would be like the final boss, really strong. Idk, always seen her as the face of Yea Forums and thus her as final boss seems like the natural thing to do.
Why do those niggers treat cripplechan like some sort of second Hitler? And why do they still get upset because of gg? Wasn't that shit about some journos who got paid roast for giving out some good reviews. Who gives a shit? Fucking sjw nigger faggot trannie niggers.
No bait here. It would be retarded not to have the two most used Yea Forums memes here. Projects gunna fail hard lol.
Adam Bell
And I'm sorry for that off topic post.
Dylan Foster
thanks doc
Robert Reyes
drawfag here i call dibs on rage guy
Elijah Diaz
imagine being much of a dumb secondary fuck you, man. You are what's killing this site
Julian Phillips
project isn't meant for newfags like yourself user
it's been said multiple times in the thread: even if pepe and wojak were made here, they're stale and overused to the point that there are fucking normalfags obsessed with them. They are also disliked by a fuckton of anons.
He could be kinda like Sin Kiske from GGXrd in that he eats Doritos and drinks Mt Dew to make his moves stronger.
It would be cool if his moveset was based around raging over video games. Like throwing a controller as a projectile, smashing a keyboard as a long ranged normal, spinning around a mouse for a bit before slamming it into the ground, etc.
Jace Foster
imagine in the future, that this game becomes a mark in videogame history
Jose Torres
they brought the evil smug frog posting into this forsaken land, so they should be represented by such to remind them of the mistake they have created
Juan Scott
Trying to brainstorm some announcer lines. I'm thinking "BANNED!" for when someone gets KO'd.
Samuel James
You mean Longcat and tacgnoL? Also possible characters LAMAJ and ERIOIOIRE ,as a single fighter or as two different fighters Ronald Mcdonald, either with the Mugen moveset or having "run run ru" and "lol internet" attack Pool is closed nigger NEDM cat Don't know much more recent and old memes that can be made into a character that haven't been mentioned, I guess Leonidas but idk
Jonathan Edwards
have a DMC themed stage where Yea Forums sings Devil Trigger is the BGM
Matthew Edwards
how about "you just lost THE GAME"
Isaac Allen
That's could be for the finisher moves.
Jose James
It could be a raging demon super.
Aaron Diaz
Nah, better have him as a tutorial/practise enemy. Basically an overglorified punching bag
Easton Kelly
"KEKED" "SEETHING" "TOP KEK'd!" "LOL!"
Just a few ideas
Jonathan Diaz
rounds could be called "Threads"
>THREAD ONE, REPLY!
Easton Ward
OP get that doc running. So we defac---- have intellectual discussion which surpasses the literate gentlemen's of Yea Forums
Ryan Cooper
RETIRED
Colton Wright
"SEETHING" for then they leave mid-match similar to MKX's Quitality
Get out of my fucking head I thought of that just as you posted it
Xavier Campbell
this character is one of the most cringe inducing things about this whole site's shitty "culture" and people who post it are obviously zoomers trying desperately to look like true 1337 anonymous sekrit klub kool kidz
David Powell
you retards will never manage to keep the sprites and designs consistent. and the few semi talent artists (like yours truly) are busy working on there own games. but if you actually manage to pump out a bunch of consistent character design/model sheets then i'll do the animations for her. she's the only one with an appealing design and moveset.
because im obsessive with /x/ and the SCP, i throw some ideas for a skin/ultimate/summonable
>skins (cosmetic and utility) >skin that is a scientist lab coat with the dr. bright amulet with magic moveset (cosmetic) >skin like a MTF nine tailed fox uniform with weapon-like moveset (cosmetic) >a suit made of the flesh of 682 that enhances the durability of /x/ but it makes her attacks slow as fuck >a mechanical suit with the COTBG symbol in the chest, that enhances attack but it makes its mobility by 75% >a suit more lewd my by 610 that mkaes her more agile and can attack more quickly but it makes her very vulnerable
>ultimate >shuts off the light of the arena and the sound of 173 starts coming and *snaps*, intant K.O. or lowers 80% of HP >the gate guardian comes and delivers a fatal blow on the oponent, same as 173 of K.O. and rest >the broken god comes to the stage and robotize the enemy to become a devote to the church >the hatefull flesh explodes from below the oponent and eats him/her
>summonables >096 with a picture, causes bleed/stun >079 comes to the stage and heals the user with SCP-500 >a beanie hat that can summon up to 5 d-bois to shoot the oponent
Jonathan Diaz
Did you make that? Looks rad.
Btw, did ever give directions on the artstyle? That would be the first step to keep the art consistent. Is it 2D or 3D? Realistic anime like SFIII or cartoony anime like Guilty Gear?
Cooper Roberts
Its funny how people think THIS time they'll be able to put together a finished product.
Logan Rogers
its the year of out lord 2019 and numerous attemps had been made
Eli Wood
Is this the same guy from 5 years ago who tried to do this?
Because it probably won't work, most of Yea Forums are lazy idea guys
Kevin Phillips
OP here, I haven't really specific directions to the artstyle. It's 2D, honestly consistency could be fixed later iterations but I think it will probably be cartoony. It depends on the drawfags.
Henry Diaz
fire your current drawfags if they can't even get the tans right
Bentley Cruz
>That 21 year old "aspiring game dev" who joins a project like this, contributes a single shitty sprite, gets bored and then drops it forever.
Colton Wright
Yeah, it desperately needs more programmers, otherwise it's doomed to fail.
I mean, at least they can keep these threads bumped until someone gets interested.
Don't bother having any kind of artstyle right now, just stick to MSPaint-tier while it's still young.
This, JUS styled sprites would be the best option overall for this kind of project, specially since this is still on a very small scale for now, they are also very easy to implement in general MUGEN is filled with edits of those sprites.
Anonymous is just an "advisor", they don't do much except berate you like M Dude in the Whomp! comic by Ronnie. Anything you're willing to shit out with little effort would be usable, I'm a more accomplished writer than coder. My game is a shitty management game in the vein of sim brothel. It's not a "slave management" game, but it is "adult". You run a small time gang trying to stay under the radar of the city government/police/military forces. You sell drugs, commit petty crimes, larceny, prostitution, human trafficking, blah blah. There ain't much in the way of progression, but I have a day job and zero previous experience coding and I scrapped the whole thing to switch to Unity in case it builds up steam once it gets to a presentable state.
Noah King
what does JUS stand for?
Austin Baker
how difficult is it to make sprites like this? Would you still have to do the traditional method of one pixel at a time? I'd love to learn to make sprites and help out with this but have no idea how small sprites like this are made
Caleb Brown
Jump Ultimate Stars, a DS game with Shonen Jump characters
Another musicfag reporting in Specialize in Hip-Hop/House/Electro and have some background in Drum and Bass/Breakcore. Here's a track from another project I was involved with
Matthew Cook
Maybe as a player two for regular because complementing colours, but otherwise, absolutely not.
>how difficult is it to make sprites like this? Quite easily, like the first user say, they are small and relatively don't take that much time to work with, specially if you are already adept at working in pixelart.
>Would you still have to do the traditional method of one pixel at a time? You can start from zero doing thhe pixel at a time method, but a good method that a lot of people use is just use the already existing ones as reference or just edit then, JUS is filled with sprites from tons of characters so there is a lot you can do with then.
>I'd love to learn to make sprites and help out with this but have no idea how small sprites like this are made Between JUS and Pokemon sprites, you can learn quite a lot since they are simple enough to work with, i got into spriting rescently too and learned a lot by just editing then, just mess with then for a while and you will see.
Levi Gutierrez
In the background of every stage there has to be a gondola observing you
do you realize it will look like a romhack of a bad game made in flash?
Asher Howard
If we are making a Yea Forums fighting game. There is one character that I think should be in.....VIVIAN JAMES. Granted however I'm not entirely sure if she is considered a "board-tan".
In the case that she isn't then here is another character we can have. Gondola. Gondola could make for an interesting fighter so long as he is a more long ranged fighter that is more fit for a spacey "I wanna keep my distance while still doing decent damage" kind of playstyle. Idfk.
Grayson Morris
make a disc*rd or something there has to be guidelines and shit to this we cant just keep making threads there has to be actual communication
Electbyte (the company that made M.U.G.E.N.) disappeared long ago, so it shouldn't be a problem. By the way, do you plan to sell the game? Vivian could be an altskin for Yea Forums.
Luis Collins
>Vivian could be an altskin for Yea Forums. Yeah.....actually that'd make a lot of sense.
well what ever the style is. it should be drawn with vector/flash art with simple shading so it's accessible & people can blend traditional animation with tweening to cut back on animation time.
Codefag and /3/fag here. I'm interested. Also why not unity?
Jaxson James
you cant make a game like this dumbass, how do you think katawa shoujo was made? 5 years of non-stop threads? even if it isnt discord there has to be some other platform of communication
William Morales
go away
Aiden Edwards
Guys. GUYS. Listen, giga pudding
Connor Kelly
I don't really think vivian's more subdued personality/style fits with Yea Forums-tans unbridled rage. Doing the sprites for an alt costume for vivian would be almost as much effort as a unique moveset anyway. I think the way to go with vivian is to have her imitate a jjba: heritage to the future character with 4+Yea Forums's "punished Yea Forums-tan" as her stand
Luis Smith
alright buddy keep living your fantasy of game development
Joshua Powell
You're obviously an unexperienced underage. It makes me glad that soon enough you'll take a huge beating from life. Just don't kill yourself, son, eventually you'll learn.
Benjamin Wood
I'm not OP and I'm not selling my game since it's my first. When it's at a level I deem acceptable for critique and not complete /agdg/ shovelware, I'll post it somewhere.
Wyatt Rodriguez
Saw this thread and decided to make a little something, Obviously W.I.P
extremely fucking time consuming to do decent detailed sprites you have to hand draw them then pixel over them. we're not doing pixel art. we're just going to do flash/anime art it's much quicker.
Sebastian Fisher
how intense will the command inputs be? >Smash tier (direction + button) >Babby tier (QCFs/QCBs only) >Casual Filter tier (Shoryuken inputs, 180s, 360s, 720s) >Bullshit tier (Anything from tekken, Star inputs like pic related)
make a github or something so people can start contributing
Dominic Turner
There's already a github, it's in the OP
Brandon Cook
I really hope Yea Forums's moveset consists of reference to Yea Forums approved shit, Stuff like old popular flash games and Madness Combat, Would be as the kids say "Kino"
Kevin Reed
pepe and wojaks will attract too much shitters from /pol/ that would spam the thread demanding all their edits to be put in the game.
Matthew Sullivan
MOONMAN SHOOTS THE NIGGERS!! If anyone has a better splash tag I'm all ears.
Can I be a fighter if I give /vee/ a green screen set of me doing retarded moves for them to use? Isn't that how digitalized games like MK & the hundreds of bootlegs games were made? I have no idea
Xavier Green
>le angrey rage guy xD Can't you come up with something new for Yea Forums? It's literally rebbit tier
