>As of today, we have terminated our contract with Starbreeze Studios and will discontinue all efforts on OVERKILL’S THE WALKING DEAD. Our creators and their stories are the core of Skybound, and since 2014 we have worked hard to expand the world of The Walking Dead into an exceptional Co-op Action FPS.
>We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately OVERKILL’S THE WALKING DEAD did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised. We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game. We remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP.
Overkills financial lifeline is gone and they're probably going to shut down by the end of the year
starbreeze's response >Skybound, the license holder of OVERKILL’s The Waling Dead, has filed a license related complaint with the main digital distribution platform for the Starbreeze game OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead. As a consequence, the product is expected to be removed from new purchases on Steam within a near future. Starbreeze and Skybound are in discussions about the agreement and Starbreeze is trying to resolve the issue to find an amicable solution with the ambition to finish and deliver season 2 of the game, as previously communicated.

>make a buggy heist game >get an IP for a zombie game >just reskin your buggy heist game into a zombie game >WHAT GOT POSSIBLE GO WRONG Who's fucking idea was it to give Overkill, of all devs, the walking dead IP for a zombie game?
Saw this shit coming the day the fucking game was announced. I knew they were handing us bullshit with the trailers, and knew they'd take the path that would lead it here. They're incompetent game developers, and their CEO's, investors and anyone who holds authority within Starbreeze or Overkill, are ignorant pricks.
This is the result of being lazy and stupid. They had this coming.
starbreeze is already on the verge of bankruptcy and got raided by the police, and now overkill aren't working on any games because Payday 2's ended late last year, raid is dead in the water, TWD is next to follow, and PD3 might miss its 2020 release target. If you look at TWD and also Final Fantasy: Fortress, there's a pattern of barely meeting milestones and shooting themselves in the foot with really bad tech TWD was originally a VR title, but then they found out the engine they just bought for 10m was dogshit and switched to UE4, an engine only 10% of the company knew how to use and they'd be lucky to get even a THQ buyout.

Imagine making all this money with something successful and then gambling it away. Retards never know when to stop.

>reskin left 4 dead with cops and robbers instead of zombies and survivors >have to make zombie game >just reskin payday with zombies and survivors Not that I ever expected anything different, but on paper it sounds foolproof.
i was surprised they even showed this garbage at E3 or whatever show it was when i first saw it not that i expected anything else from Overkill/Starbreeze

Makes you think.

The Heist was a fluke and not even hiring the designer of the best battlefield game could save 2 in the end

I played Payday 2 for 300 hours but the combat was directly inferior to the first game Like if I could have just taken the combat of the first and dropped it into the second it would have been fantastic. They never balanced it away from a silly run-n-gun, make-the-cops-chase-you-in-circles, literally-have-a-stat-for-dodging-bullets game. At least not before I stopped playing around 2016.
