If dealing with the fandom is a major part of the experience, then yes.
No, Undertale for example is objectively good but Contrarians use the fandom as an excuse for it being bad without ever actually discussing the game design itself
>dealing with the fandom
It only really works as criticism with multiplayer games. Single player experiences are fine.
Its a cop out answer. And it shows you care more about what people think rather than how good the thing itself is.
No and I've yet to see any valid argument as to why it can.
>Underale for example of objectively good
Yikes.
I'd say it depends. If you can dodge the fandom it's not, but if they inject their bullshit in everything it really sours the taste.
take 1 look at Sonic OCs and ask yourself that question again
No, the fandom doesn't hack the single player game and force you to talk to them. I could see why "fanbase is bad" would effect a multiplayer game but there's a block button
This. If the game is multiplayer focused and you'll have to interact with the fandom/community then it's valid. If it's a singleplayer game like undertale then it's not, you can easily enjoy the game and not interact with the fandom or let people know you like the game if it's embarrassing for you
Sonic's problems lie in Sega and it's demand to push out games way too quickly rather than work on quality products.
Against the subject, it's not.
Against your interest in discussing the subject, it is.
Yes
>ifunny
Sonic OCs have nothing to do with the games SEGA produce you child /thread
If by fandom you mean the playerbase, then yeah. People dropped PUBG because it was overrun with Chinese hackers. People won't buy fighting games if the competitive playerbase is non-existent. I can't think of any games where the fandom, not the playerbase, would actually influence the experience in a major way.
Nice argument.
No, you're not required to join nor engage with the community of fans to enjoy an offline game.
Tell me how it's OBJECTIVELY good, then. Show me where it's evident that games design principles were applied
no because every fandom is bad
association with a poor fanbase via the game. when you have a fanbase known for being absolute shit (Sonic, Undertale, etc), and play that game, you become *in general* lumped into that fanbase.
it doesnt matter if you dont give a fuck about the furry donut steel OCs, or the hyper autism Sans posting. When you announce that you enjoy that franchise/game, you're lumped into the general consensus about their fanbases.
I love the Pokemon games. They're flawed, and simple, but they remind me of when I was little and they're something to kill time. I cant talk about them without being lumped into a group of pokefuckers or man children, so, it greatly diminishes my joy of the games
Of course. People love to be hypocrite about it and say it shouldn't matter when it's about games they like and know well their fanbase is cancerous and accept it. If you finished a game and you search for anything related to it, you are already being exposed to its fanbase. It can be fanarts, discussions, anything else and it's part of the experience as well.
Maybe you're actually a manchild.
No, because all fandoms are to some degree.
This
almost always the game is bad too
No, because you don't have to interact or identify with the fanbase. Also this is the perfect response to the question.
For online multiplayer games yes, for single player games who gives a fuck, you don't have to interact with the fanbase
I don't live under a rock though.
You also don't have to talk to people you dislike, believe it or not
This 100 times
If a game has a bad fanbase, I won't admit I'm a fan - but I'm not autistic or enough of an npc to convince myself that I don't actually like it anymore
case in point.
for a game being shit? nah.
I don't but I certainly see them and see a lot of shit which makes me aware of the existence of these people anyways even if I dont care about them. No matter how it goes you always end up associating and being a frustating experience since you cant discuss about something because I dont talk with these people and dont want them talking with me oops, better go back to my rock.
Yikesposters go back to tumblr
If you think sonic is bad because of the fanart, you haven't played a sonic team game past 2004. Yes the fanbase is the worst, but sonic mania was still dank
Only if it means in having deep interest in a game. That's why I never got into undertale.
>I don't but I certainly see them and see a lot of shit which makes me aware of the existence of these people anyways even if I dont care about them.
I don't see how them existing would make you feel differently about the game, unless you really do care more about how others look at you.
>No matter how it goes you always end up associating and being a frustating experience since you cant discuss about something because I dont talk with these people and dont want them talking with me oops, better go back to my rock.
Well at least you openly ADMIT you care more about how others view you. Maybe one day you'll see.
A fandom being bad is a critique of the fandom, not whatever it idolizes. So no.
Imagine being unable to enjoy a game because someone you don't like plays it.
is it a valid criticism of the game itself? no. but it is a valid excuse to avoid the game
No. If you put a game in a vacuum and it's good, there's no other factor that matters.
this
It's a valid criticism of the community and you shouldn't give a shit about the community unless you're part of it.
They're games not a lifestyle.
Sonic is notorious for shitty/mediocre games. The fact that laughing stock of a franchise is still so big astounds me.
Yes, because i dont want to be accociated with the autismos that also play the game, so if i do play it ill keep it to myself rather than talk about it to others
Undertale isn't objectively good. BUT using the fandom as a criticism of the game itself is dumb.
It just sucks when all of the online fan communities for something you like suck. I'm a Godzilla fan and have lurked on most of the online kaiju circles. They really make me want to blow my brains out.
> you care more about how others view you.
? By saying that I dont want to talk with them and don't want them talking with me? Isn't that logical?
>I don't see how them existing would make you feel differently about the game, unless you really do care more about how others look at you.
There's nothing about caring about how others views me, you failed to understand that the biggest problem is not being associated, couldnt care less, but associate it yourself, because we always do, don't be a saint even if you dont care.
If fandoms werent so influential you wouldnt be spoiled from a overwhelming popular meme like sans. Fandoms don't ruin the quality of the game but can ruin your post experience with the franchise after the game. The moment you are searching for anything related you are being exposed to the fandom.
How much of the fandom am I going to see playing through the game? I was able to 100% a hat in time without even a single interaction with a pedophile or a shadman. I cant play most mmos for 5 minutes without having to see the verbal diarrhea that is general chat
>By saying that I dont want to talk with them and don't want them talking with me?
Yes.
>Isn't that logical?
If you care more about how others view you, sure.
>you failed to understand that the biggest problem is not being associated, couldnt care less, but associate it yourself, because we always do, don't be a saint even if you dont care.
So in other words, YOU care about how others look at you. Gotcha. Also this is very, very poorly worded.
When it comes to kusoge like Undertale, absolutely.
There's nothing else I can say if you aren't able to understand my point so I am just going to say that there are people that aren't like us and give value to public discussions and interactions or their post experience after a game so of fucking course they will care to know where they are getting into before not because of reputation bullshit but they just want to have a good time. Since OP didn't specify exactly, the fandom being bad isn't valid criticism for a quality of a game but can be valid for other points such as interest in a series for example, so the real answer is pretty subjective.
I am into sonic exactly because I dont care how bad and far things goes but I can't blame if not everyone is like that and wont get into it because the fandom.
Undertale is a good indie rpg, one of the best indie games ive played these past couple years.
Its just the fanbase and art are autistic. ranging from furries who wanna fug the goats, to people who think its the best game ever cause the pope got a copy.
The OST is catchy though , well a hit or miss with some songs.youtube.com
no
no
How can undertale be good if it don't have hyperrealistic graphics?
If its a multiplayer only game so you're forced to interact with them constantly, yeah. But for singleplayer rpgs like Undertale is a weak cop out because they can't think of an actual criticism of the game
Unless the fanbase somehow effects the experience of the game directly or is involved with the playerbase in a co-op/multiplayer setting, online or otherwise, then the answer is an obvious No. Only an idiot would judge a game based on the people who play it, ESPECIALLY when it's a single player game. So I expect Yea Forums to say Yes.
>but can be valid for other points such as interest in a series for example
>He's been dissuaded from games by passion
Sad
Not if it's my favorite game!
That's retarded as fuck, boy.
und sansertale
Check out pic related. Fun game, absolute trainwreck of a community. The problem is that the game is multiplayer only, so you HAVE to interact with retards. For something that's single player, just block out the external autism and play the game to your heart's content.
The amount of salt I've gotten for just playing Killer is so good. It's one of the last games out there that you can be an absolute asshole in and you can just sit back and mine the salt.
No and only retards think it is.
what the fuck is this image and why
>Op didn't crop the ifunny watermark, making him tonight's biggest loser.
I remember some Leatherface player going apeshit because we didn't farm with him. Also, some survivor called me a retard for stepping in my own trap, even though they didn't see me walking towards them in a wide open space when they were cleansing a totem. Caught them, hooked them and laughed.
I kinda feel bad for killers. They get shit on for being the killer when the game is actually severely imbalanced. And not in the way it's supposed to be
