Scor will be the furfag choice who will have a footfag focus, Grookey will be the meme one and Sobble seems constantly depressed so he might turn into something cool. Remember when last gen we all thought the seal was dumb and it turned into a trap mermaid?

I'm cautiously optimistic. I really like the aesthetics of the region, and it looks like it has a lot of variety unlike the series of tropical islands in Sun and Moon. The starters aren't my favorites though, and it's a shame that it seems to be so formulaic. But so far it looks better than the 3DS games. I'll have to wait and see if they ruin it with yet another lame story with overbearing cutscenes and literally baby mode difficulty.

It looks okay, I think they should have held off on releasing lets go because lots of the visuals seem a little too derivative of that, made it a lot less exciting to see what a pokemon game can look like on consoles

They're probably the most content-dense games in the series and have good and varied Pokemon distribution. Some people also like the difficulty settings, but they're so poorly implemented the only way you'd ever use them for your playthrough is if you cheat (which is pretty fun)

By admission Bulbasaur was meant to be easy-mode since grass has a natural advantage against the early gyms.
If you start with Charmander you have no such luck since a Charmander is going to be at a natural disadvantage against Brock's rock types and Misty's water types, and for most players, especially if you were new to the franchise like most people given that these were the first fucking games in the series, you would be heavily dependent on your starter being your best fighter.
So you had no choice but to grind up other weaker Pokemon, or grind Charmander up till he could overcome Brock and Misty through sheer force of will and potion binging.

Likewise fire types are at a natural meta-disadvantage since they are already on average more dependent on high speed, high offense output and have low durability, and also since water types are the most common type of Pokemon in any game.

I think it's time to admit that the pokemon game we all want will never exist. The pokemon's themselves make it impossible to really change the mold when it comes to the combat or adventure. Pokemon will really only ever be a limited turn based RPG because you can't have a free flowing game based around the fact some monsters are fucking huge, or they fly, or live underground/underwater. They will only have any sort of freedom when they make cartoons or movies. This is the only way a main series pokemon game will ever work.

I'm all for getting excited for games by promising developers. Gamefreak has been doing nothing but shitting out trash games as of late. Where is the logic in getting your hopes up?

So you have no idea... Pokemon Company isn't owned by Nintendo, neither is Pokemon. Nintendo is only a majority shareholder, enough to keep the series for themselves, but they can in no way tell GF what to do, or Creatures Inc how to market the games etc. Anything they might agree on will be either because Nintendo provides financially good ideas or from good will of the people behind the companies being friends and business partners.

like, i think the key is 'tempering' expectations, not just expecting the world and being mad/upset when things aren't as you envisioned. Espeically with gamefreak, i'd prefer to take the games at face value, rathen than compare them to what came before because I'll admit Game Freak never really knows when it has something good in its hands. I still like the games most of the time though because I choose to take them for what they are and get the most out of them.

I'm not saying be blindly supportive, but if you think you might enjoy it, there's no need to get all cynical and whatever about it. Just have fun, it's a video game, that's what they're about.
