Alright fellas, I'm getting closer to beating the final boss of EO5. I turned my Deathbringer into a Deathguard so I could snipe this guy's ass after laying on Miasma / Target Arrow / Smoke in a turn. Plus using head binds pretty early on nullifies most of his attacks.

I'll pack some of those stat nullification items next time so Ruinous Roar boosted Thunder Howl doesn't wipe my party.

HP recovery is okay, but my party gets wiped if an attack goes off since I don't have a ton of defensive options outside of Brouni Union skills. I think dispersing Ruinous Roar is what will help me avoid those killer wipes, plus if I place a head bind while the miasma's being absorbed I get a free turn to wail on the boss.

Chain Killer is pretty awesome. Each hit does 2.5k damage with the chance to proc twice, and with the Harbinger debuff removing attack I can deal about 1.3k per attack fairly consistently.

Etrian Odyssey V, by far the best character design in the whole game and my favorite class in it.

Because she had to remind herself to keep the relationship between you and her purely professional after depending too much on you for personal favors.

Even when I knew what to expect, I still lost to him at least 8 times by now. Party's around level 58, so I really didn't want to have to grind if I could help it, so I had to do some introspection to see what works and what doesn't.

My Harbinger was a Deathbringer before, but I wasn't too successful popping off status effects even with Wilting Miasma and Frigid Reap didn't seem like it did all that much damage, so I mostly relied on popping Chain Killer to do damage which is basically just gambling for damage. I know I could set up Fatal Reap with Sleep Jars since the boss is vulnerable to Sleep, but I think the Deathguard has a more consistent damage attack and I can attempt to reduce the boss's damage output with Miasma debuffs.

My poisoner does very little aside from putting out revives when possible and casting smoke debuffs, though if Blind goes off I can attempt to do the bomb attack for decent damage while he's suffering.

I usually have a pretty good idea of what to do for the first few turns, but by turn 8 or 9 I'm focused on recovering which is when shit hits the fan.

Currently playing 5 so I can play nexus.
I'm at the 5th stratum and regretting not picking a class with instant death on it.

Believe me, you don't want to use the Exp DLC, it gives you way too much when you deliver it, you rarely have to grind during the whole game, at worst you only have to explore a bit more in the next labyrinth before tackling a maze.

The funny thing is my Zodiac, Arcanist, and Harbinger all feel like they're up and running; it's the Pugilist and Landy that feel like they're taking forever although the Landy is good at burst damage.

Have you played EO before? If you want to play the series as a whole, I usually recommend one of two options:

>Start from the original Etrian Odyssey in DS and go in release order so you can appreciate the quality of life improvements. The first two games are rough but they have their own charm
>Start with III and go in release order, since the first two games got remakes in 3DS released after IV. EOU has similar maps than the original but EO2U's maps are completely different, only issue being that the whole game is a big FOE puzzle

I still highly recommend starting from the very first games, as it might be hard to go back to them if you start with one of the most recent ones. Also, do not play Nexus until the very last, is meant to be a celebration of the franchise so without any attachment to it you won't enjoy it as much and will miss a lot of references and twists from the old games meant to take old fans for a surprise.

That's because Pugilist is complete dogshit in Nexus. If you want damage, swap it out for a Gunner or Ronin. If you want binds, swap it out for a Gunner or Ronin. If you want a high HP, low defense, abysmal MDef damage sponge who wants all of your Medicas to stay alive, that's all Pug is good for.

EO3 had such a good soundtrack. I mean, holy fuck, how many times has End of the Raging Waves been remixed? I’m surprised it wasn’t in Nexus.

All irrelevant because weapon skills have absurdly high infliction chance and decent action speed, as well as TP efficiency using deeper TP pools than Pug's ankle deep one, and will be dealing 2-4x the damage each turn compared to a Pug if the Pug even manages to combo.
Each turn a Ronin or Gunner will be doing more damage earlier in the turn with a higher chance of binding compared to the Pug, and will be more survivable, and in the Gunner's case has the widest skillpool in the game to be able to do other things when binding isn't required.

Thank the Lord I switched my Harbinger over to Deathguard. That debuff clearing attack move actually gave me consistent damage over the course of the fight instead of banking on Chain Killer to do that for me.

Now I can comfortably start Nexus without any guilt. Maybe someday I'll play through the 6th Stratum on 5 or revisit the 3rd Stratum on 4, but for now I can play the new hotness.

Would a Hero / Highlander / Shogun in front and Sovereign / Ninja in back work out fine? Or should I try putting another class in the back so the Hero can dupe? I don't know exactly what synergizes with one another, but I wanted to avoid making another Chain party if I could help it.

That party looks fine. Your afterimages will spawn in the back but you can just move them to the front on the turn they attack

I've been running that party with an Arcanist instead of a Ninja and it's been a ton of fun, you'll be fine.

If you legit plan to use dupe Hero, I recommend only using a 4man party (or less) so the class shines more. And the less frontline units besides hero the better unless you just spam the ranged moves.

Nice offensive team, maybe the only issue is choosing what to do with your Hero. You can either go full offense with Wide Bravery, Frigid Slash and Spark Blade, or turn him into a tank with Physical, Elemental Shield and Guard Rush. His passive healing along Sovereign is also really good, but equip yourself with Thearica later because you don't have a way to remove ailments and binds, only prevent them.

I'm in fifth stratum in Nexus and i think i kinda overtuned my team comp since i'm running a hero/highlander/sov/harb/gunner team and they are just ripping though the fucking game and all FOEs on my way.

Make a backup party of 5 farmers, and max combat study on them asap. Then spend their points on gathering/encounter reducing passives and you can get a lot of money. Don't use wildling and ninja at the same time

Avoid equipping heavy armor, shields and helmets unless you want to be slow/need that extra def. Heavy armor, shields and helmets give speed penalties.

If you're getting bored enough to drop the game buy the cheaty EXP DLC. It'll help you push through the early game slog where you have no skills to choose from and you're constantly going back to town running out of TP.

Balanced teams including Sovereign and Gunner are incredibly good. Hero is very multipurpose while Harbinger is the best debuffer in the game. Don't get too overconfident though as maze boss fights can really give some trouble, while the superboss is nothing but pure, unadultered skill.

I subclassed Sov with Harb because Miasma Armor gives them even better bulk while giving access to both buffs and debuffs. I went for Ronin on Gunner for the passives and Duel. There's also a meme set where you can use Upper Stance with a katana for extra damage or Swift Stance for better accuracy with Ricochet.

I haven't used a Harbinger but anything that improves their Status Atk Up is good.

Nope, skills only work with the weapon in the description. You usually choose a subclass based on the passives it can give and extra support you might require.

Kind of related, I don't recommend a Medic subclass, they're way better as the main class thanks to access to line Refresh and Unbind, better Revive and Auto Revive and the best Medic skill, Overheal. Their Force Break is also a literal life saver.
