We're probably not going to see much today other than the starters, so what're your predictions about gen 8 down the line?

>will it have gyms again, or try something different again?
>how many new pokemon?
>what's the new gimmick after megas and z-moves?
>which country will the region be based on?

It's another let's go game

>Catching mons go style
>Real time combat in overworld and turn based battles against trainers
>HD rumble to feel mons in their pokeballs
>Motion control for powered up moves
>One bad and one good rival
>Over-world built on exploration and less railroading using the switches capabilities
>Riding mons is back but the world is huge, flying will be a late game feature

Dare you pick your starter in advance?

Always water type

Usually fire, sometimes water, never grass. It all depends on the final design and secondary type whether I go with fire or water. There's never been a good grass starter for me.

Don't give a shit, I just want it to look like a modern game that belongs in the year 2019. If they succeed on that front I'm happy

Typically water, but I’m cautious after the fucking seal.
If water is shit then grass. Never took a fire except charmander

>will it have gyms again, or try something different again?
I really want gyms back but I feel they're not done trying new ideas
>how many new pokemon?
Either real low like 70 or they'll add a full set of 150 again like gen 1 and 5
>what's the new gimmick after megas and z-moves?
Pokemon fusion, give up on party slot to fuse two mons into something more OP than a mega
>which country will the region be based on?
England maybe

it's gonna be shit

No, fuck off.

I have no expectations for Pokemon in the future. It peaked with Gen 4, the last really good game was Gen 5, and the last decent game was XY. Everything after that has sucked major shit. I'll still play Showdown though.

How long until it starts?

>your predictions

will be on switch
late 2020 release date

everything else is guessing

have they ever strayed away from fire grass water starters? i haven’t paid attention since ruby/sapphire.

why not like ice / flying / fighting?
or fighting / dark / psychic ?

No
Why? Idk tradition. Those typings could also be added on as secondary typing rather than primary

ground normal electric

it’s just stale and predictable at this point

3 games, that's all I'm saying. Screenshot this.

They're probably going to show some of the region since they led up to the announcement with a region countdown and left off the Alola tweet with "what region are you going to visit next?" yesterday.

Whichever one is cutest~
I love Primarina!!

They seem determined to stick to grass/fire/water, but they have played around with giving starters secondary types that change the pattern.
I think gen 4 had grass/ground, fire/fighting, water/steel so the second type was strong against the type they're weak against.
And gen 6 had grass/fighting, water/dark, fire/psychic, so they all had two type advantages on the one they're strong against.

Basically I don't think you can expect more change than that, they'll always start out as grass/fire/water.

>why not like ice / flying / fighting?
Because that trio only works in terms of being super-effective. Ice doesn't resist Flying, and Fighting doesn't resist Ice.
>or fighting / dark / psychic ?
Because Dark doesn't simply resist Psychic, it's outright immune to it.

The "why" is because it's the only type triangle that works perfectly for the purpose starter type trios exist. Making them secondary types would mean they don't show up until the pokemon has evolved, even though the entire point of the triangle is to teach a basic game mechanic early on. Unless you're proposing that they have two types from the get go, but that kind of defeats the purpose of making the usual starter types secondary.

>director gets on direct
>Our apologies, we need a little extra time to work on the next mainline pokemon
>Here have a Let's Go reskin for this year
