VR thread? VR thread

VR thread? VR thread.
Thanks to Mixed Reality headsets and the upcoming Oculus Quest, VR is becoming more and more affordable by the day. What's your excuse, Yea Forums? The state of virtual reality has never been this good before.

Where is my vr jrpg

Is there a VR game that simulates this?

hey i cant keep up, just like how HTC cant keep up

I intend to get one soon. What should I aim for if I'm a relatively cheapass motherfucker?

Rift, Odyssey+ if you can still get it for sale ($300) or low-end WMR if you're really strapped for cash.

Odyssey+ is 300$ during sells. it's best mid-end headset, better than rift and vive.

>Odyssey +
>works on Windows 10 only
Shit. Guess I'm fucked if I'm still on 7.

Rift and Vive are considered to be mid-end if I read that correctly?
What's considered to be high-end, then? I always thought those were the big two when it comes to vr. How's the Odyssey+ better?

Attached: 1530751111479.png (519x415, 190K)

i would call vive pro and pimax 4k high end.

odyssey+ have better resolution and less sde than vive and rift. tracking isnt as good but it works.

It's a confusing time for VR right now
Ultimately Rift and Vive were the sole standard for a long time but with WMR headsets coming with nicer screens and competitive pricing you'd think that they would be in a hurry to announce successors. Instead they're focusing on standalone "mobile" VR.
High end is Pimax and Vive Pro, both of which are expensive and Pimax has a lot of chinky problems. O+ has the best screen at a mid-range price and right now the sale on it is ridiculous.
Do note that O+ is a WMR headset and therefore uses the slightly inferior inside-out tracking.
It's easier to set up but you have to have good lighting and the motion controls in your field of vision to maintain good hand tracking.

There's VRChat the way everyone seems to cuddle and pat each other. But you probably want a standalone game like a Boy and his Blob instead.

>vive pro
>high end
>spending more money must make it better

The overall most polished high end experience right now is the Vive Pro. The Samsung Odyssey/+ uses the same screen, but it also uses WMR tracking. The Pimax could end up being the best SteamVR option but for now it's kind of janky.

>and the motion controls in your field of vision to maintain good hand tracking
How does that work for things like drawing a sword/bow in Orbus then? I'd imagine impossible if they just *poof* when they leave your fov.

it keeps tracking outside of fov of cameras (not your eyes, cameras have bigger fov) with motion sensors but not as accurate.

When WMR loses visual tracking on the controllers, they still have rotational tracking and they "predict" movement a bit so dipping out generally is unnoticeble but lingering outside the FOV tends to make the controllers stick where it lost tracking or worst case, fly off somewhere strange.
It works, especially if you can get used to slightly changing your stance to compensate but it is irritating at times.
Unfortunately external tracked HMDs right now either have old and terrible screens or will run you over $1000 for the whole kit.
O+ is an easy compromise until Valve saves us.

I find they both rely a lot on how the dev implements it. Dungeon Hero VR for instance had a back slot that was so bad I just gave up using it but recently updated and now it works just fine
A lot of games have shit throwing except for the ones that don't. So it is possible and since WMR is finally getting noticed and good devs are specifically addressing its issues it becomes less a problem by the day.

I'm not sure I'd describe either the production Vive or Rift as having 'terrible' screens. They're not cutting edge anymore but they're still perfectly viable.

Uninterested until full dive

It's obvious that screen quality is the most common concern with these things, especially since even high end screens still have much to be desired. On top of that noticeable SDE really bugs some people and is by far the most frequent complaint even before anti-SDE screens existed.
It's important for performance too, O+ gets much better returns from supersampling
It's infuriating that the tech is there but Oculus and HTC just can't be bothered to make a new iteration of their basic HMDs.

>took part in a health campaign at work that landed me a shitton of cash
>just bought a PSVR yesterday basically for free

well I fell for the VR meme I guess. what's worth getting for it?

>mfw playing One Piece Grand Cruise and Nami sits down next to me and basically rubs her tits in my face

Attached: IMG_20190214_062018.jpg (960x540, 41K)

>I find they both rely a lot on how the dev implements it.
i guess its shit if the devs have to make a workaround

The PSVR's got some good content for it. If you're up for some multiplayer stuff, grab an Aim controller bundled with Firewall. Kind of R6 Siege-y and while you can play it with a dualshock, the aim controller is better. Ace Combat 7's VR mode is cool too, but pretty lightweight. Only two or three hours. Pick it up if it's on sale or you wanted it anyway. Farpoint is good but a little basic. Doom VFR is rough around the edges but when it works, it's really something.

>workaround
It's literally just adapting the game to work with WMR properly just like they adapted the game to work with Rift and Vive's idiosyncrasies
Considering the timeframe and how little MS has bothered marketing it, WMR is catching up fast and good devs are adding support

You guys are really seething about that huh? But it's Oculus and HTC's fault for deliberately ignoring the market. Hell, the rift's sensor system may never be used again.

Attached: 1470963547244.jpg (514x424, 58K)

>Hell, the rift's sensor system may never be used again.
i hope to fucking god it dont its as ass backwards as vives grip buttons

huh?

I want vr, but I don't have a room for the sensors nor space to swing my arms around
Makes me sad

wait till you grow up and get your own place then

Seated VR is fun and easy especially if you're into "cockpit" type games.
You might also want to look into standalone VR that you can use anywhere, like the Oculus Quest.

I have my own place.
But no room to swing my arms around.
I would have to move my weights around and my couch. And my keyboards
Fuck

I like cocks
And does it support head motion things?

>head motion things
If you mean head tracking, yes.
If you're going seated then motion control tracking isn't that important so might as well go all in on screen quality.

Attached: 1257732685091.png (400x400, 23K)

>Affording your own place big enough for VR
>Affording VR on top of it
right

Yes head tracking.
I have heard that controller camera makes you puke easily when you have vr headset on
So it would be optimal if I could look around while seated

I haven't played a single VR game that doesn't have head tracking
O+ is on sale right now but only in murrica essentially. But you should probably go WMR anyway since it won't require setting up external sensors.

Having looked through a vr headset (because I own both vive and rift) that photo looks NOTHING like it does when you're playing.

Okay
Thanks user, I will keep this in mind

zoomed

It's extremely zoomed in, a lot of other screen comparison shots out there actually make them look even worse.
How good is your eyesight user?

Vivelet here. It does, you don't really notice it, reminds me of the time I was nearing getting my first prescribed glasses, but trying to glance on small crap in Assetto Corsa/Elite Dangerous in your vehicle is a pain.

Attached: 1539644303519.png (654x765, 456K)

You didn't get beat saber for PSVR?

this.
I really notice the screen door effect and such if I really try to pay attention to it and look for it.

Its honestly a non issue but autists grab onto it

Should I plug in my HTC again? It's such a hassle to do so but I miss Beat Saber.

What do you need to look inside your car for on AC

Your going to need AUDICA soon.

Eh, there wasn't anything really worthwhile since a long time. Contractors came out, but it's basically a EA blend of Pavlov and Onward.

Shadow Legend is coming out tomorrow barring any more last minute fuckups
You can pet doggos and fry steaks and shit, it's a linear RPG/Adventure with a lot of VR interactivity. Might be good.

Another Beat Saber clone?

HUD off, can't hear revs over the Eurobeat

Even people who eat feces desire some variety now and then.
Besides I think that one is being made by the Guitar Hero guys or something.

I bought an Oculus a few months ago and had to refund it because I wear glasses, notice the screendoor effect and have intense motion sickness to the point of vomiting. The sickness went away when i crouched or sat down, but if I stood up I felt like I was going to faint. I'm quite tall and uncoordinated so I felt even worse than usual. I think if they can iron out the motion sickness (if it's at all possible) in future iterations, and get a much better res, I'd buy it again.

Other HMDs accomodate glasses better and you can get lens adapters
SDE has been eliminated by Odyssey+ and Pimax on top of having a higher resolution
Motion sickness is a you problem, I was able to cure myself in under a month just by not overdoing it and building up my tolerance.

Looks boring as hell. Beat Saber is already out and better.

Just shift up at 7500 revs lmao, can't you see the tachometer? you don't need to see individual numbers

I'm a newbie, I still like to check out the speeds before corners. I should probably read up on some serious tutorials, but I'm not very dedicated.

I assumed you were driving only the AE86

Tbh the best things you can do is learn the line for the circuit and braking point

I like to drive it from time to time, but I main MX5 because I like it and seriously consider buying it one day.

What game/tech demo?

MX5 is a really good beginner car to learn desu, It's very forgiving in it's handling, I'm too large to fit in a real one.

I've been trying to learn rally driving in Dirt and that's really fucking hard

Blood Trail

I've heard waifu simulation is shit is it true?

It's so bad I just gave up on it once I realized that even if I figured out how to use its autistic interface, it would still be unpleasant. MMD models are shitty too compared to what Honey Select and Koikatsu can manage with a bit of modding.

Looks like an ok ISIS/cartel simulator.

is there somewhat a website that reviews VR games in detail?
i just cannot trust reviews on steam and oculus store anymore
mainly because they are just reviews by people that get a bit too easily excited to play crap games just because it's in VR.
games i tried because of reviews looked AND played like shit, feels like the reviews were written by people that only tried one VR game in their life.

it's getting annoying to find a proper VR game that feels like one

Attached: 1496869335359.jpg (1200x675, 78K)

It looks exactly like it though, the SDE on the Rift surpassed my every expectation with how bad it looked. I wonder if eye problems make SDE look better or worse though.

Apparently you play a hitman hired to kill a bunch of cultists in the forest. Looks creepy as fuck in a way I haven't seen in vidya before.

VR is so subjective to begin with and you can't even get a good feeling for the game by watching a vid. At least we have Steam refunds I guess. Hopefully these threads get better about actually discussing games someday.

O+ SDE is fixed by putting a film over the screen that kinda bleeds it together iirc so probably.

>Oculus Quest
can you at least keep the shilling subtle? I don't mind daily VR threads but goddamn user lol

Yeah, Dirt is a whole different ballpark.

What game?

>What's your excuse, Yea Forums?

Not enough room to play without hitting a wall or furnitures.

Can you play Rift games with a non Rift headset? I want to play their exclusives without the shit screen.

revive

This probably explains why the rift is so fucking unbearable at times. Bought it and I was already disappointed by the horrible god rays the first minute I tried it.

Holy shit SS really change everything. I enjoy VR but it could get tiresome on the eyes, but with SS it's far less straining

I did quite a bit of research over the last two weeks about VR before pulling the trigger on. Sure, the Odyssey+ has a nicer screen with less of a screen door effect, but it still suffers from weaker tracking due to the lack of proper sensors outside of just the HMD unit. The screen door is there, for sure, but i'd take accurate tracking over a slightly nicer picture any day.

Skyrim 2 won't come out for another 3-4 years though.

Wait, does Enderal work in VR? I haven't played it past the first few areas, because of wrist pain, but I'd revisit it in VR.

Do huge mods really work well? I assumed VR would break without VR-specific patches for script-heavy mods.

Enderal is LE only and turns out they don't have the manpower to do a SE port.
Heard Bruma works though.

Is there a mod that makes the melee combat fun? I always thought Blade and Sorcery is kinda what Skyrim VR should have had.

B&S is cutting edge dude, the only game that rivals it is Gorn.
Melee like that will be standard someday but not today and definitely not in one of Todd's games.

Skyrim's combat is extremely primitive behind the scenes, it doesn't even use hitboxes.

play as mage with voice control

Escape room is a good use of VR

It's actually the best use of room scale if you pump it full of interactivity like pulling levers and turning dials etc

I only tried echo arena with revive and it was really meh but at the time the ender's game style mode wasn't completed yet

did they finish it yet? that alone would be worth trying the game for
