Okay, I know there will be issues if we go the "subscription" way, but would it really be a bad thing long term? We have things like Netflix for movies, while still having the option to buy the movies physically/download them in any quality you want online and keep them on your pc. For music there's Spotify, same thing as movies for "owning"/pirating your own music.
I can see issues right now, especially with internet speeds, but if they figured out the kinks with things like input lag, would it really be all that bad? I feel like it'd give a cheaper way to try out a lot of games you may not intend to replay/keep forever and it's not like it'd take away the option to buy these games, right?
And in the privacy front, let's be honest, we are already all doomed anyways. Google harvesting information through video games does not seem like a big deal given they already have the most popular search engine, browser and video site in the world.

Because streaming games is a fucking nightmare. Renting out games to download and play client side isn't a bad idea, but streaming is horrible because input lag by and large cannot be "ironed out" or fixed. It's a permanent, salient feature of streaming something. Maybe it works in the city around Google's server farm headquarters, where your lag is less than 60ms but anything over 100ms is gonna feel like your character is stuck in molasses.
Onlive tried this same shtick years ago and now they're a defunct company. It just doesn't feel good to play.
