Absolutely pathetic.

what good does it to make the data layer biodegradable if it is still stuck to a disk of plastic that isnt?

Which is why GoG as an alternative is nearly infinitely better. Along with digitally accessed installers that you can download and keep forever by transferring them along the internet or external hard drives, they function literally identical to how a CD would if you keep your games in a USB where the access to your games is relative to how much you care for your hardware.

I will.

Not so much anymore - the only reason to have those for archival purposes is if you'd want to keep your data secure after EMP discharge (and even then I'm not sure if the aluminum will survive the process unscathed - i remember seeing some paper on how electro-magnetism could cause some outburst shit that can physically deform metal)

The labels aren't metal.

>A CD is made from 1.2 millimetres (0.047 in) thick, polycarbonate plastic

the metal was eaten through, in addition to the label?

as an astronomer, i can safely say: every part of the CD is metal

it's the metal layer that got crumbled on OP's picrelated, you absolute mong

congratulations, you can read the first sentence, now work those 2 brain cells you have extra hard and read the rest too. you can do it!

hint: the relevant parts are enclosed by bright red squares.

When are my PS1 CDs supposed to start rotting again?

I just played through my copy of Battle Arena Toshinden from 1995 and it still works fine.

actually I take that back.
Since you can buy roughly 3-4GBs of WD's Blue Desktop HDD per each GB of DVD/BD, then the most secure and cheapest way for long-term back-up of your data is buying 3 times as much of hard-drive storage, making a shadow-copy of your working drive and then storing your back-up hdd safely in faraday cage (the one that's dense enough to withstand EMP discharge from the nuke)

entropy comes for us all

>clone.iso of games from original cd/dvds
>burns them onto 100gb M-DISC Blu-Rays
Nothin' personnel.

also it's the most convenient way, since juggling DVDs and even BD between the DVD case and the optical drive tray is pain in the ass time-wise.

Until it breaks or you can't run it on modern systems anymore.

I can already see it's a shit tier cheap press where data layer and label is the same layer
good disk has data layer surrounded by plastic and label printed on that plastic

er

Just write a new disk

Most chips used in NES/SNES cartridges have data burn into the chip and and will last for a very long time if properly stored while newer flash memory carts will last a few decades, and they deteriorate while being used. Floppies and other magnetic media has bit rotted for every second since they were created.
Physical game collectors will have a pile of useless plastic by the time they reach old age if they don't keep backing everything up. Sell your shit to scalping ebay retards and make digital backups.

the absolute state.

nah, its dark energy which pushes stuff apart: its a property of space, a constant one, so a unit of space have the same amount
as space expands, there's more space, thus more dark energy, thus it accelerates the expansion

the catch however, is that its weak as shit, and if theres enough matter in a given unit of space, their gravity will overpower dark energy, so even as space expands between those things, gravity will pull it together faster than the space between them expands. there wont be more space, between them, thus there wont be more dark energy pushing them apart either, so gravity remains the dominant force.

And we are talking in the scale of galaxies here.
so i the "end", our galaxy will stay together and we could see see its stars from earth (if either those didnt already got destroyed), we just couldn't see any of the other galaxies.

I came to say you can make things last alomost forever if you take care of them properly but you were so retarded it got me hard

Attached: 1536667724433.jpg (294x294, 19K)

ok, if we want to be literate: the dark matter-emitted dark energy is what pushes stuff apart, which only occurs in the energy-potent systems (not to spoil the dark energy / observable energy interaction - humanity is yet to discover that - in layman's terms they just bounce off each other, but when there's no energy to be emitted by observable matter, the expansion would stop).
As soon as the observable system will get completely still, the same dark energy will via spiral movement pull everything together, causing the matter collision and the new cycle of observable energy accumulation. When it accumulates to a critical point, it will outburst again into a new wave of star-forming / galaxy expanding cycle.
It's all about the spirals and cycles, man1

Flash deteriorates from being written, not read. Flash hard drives might not last that long but flash ROM is pretty safe.

ITT floods, fires, or any other kind of disaster don't exist.
Anything and everything you own could be taken away in an instant. Data can only be preserved with multiple copies in separate locations, but you can't make copies of modern physical games.

Here's an anecdote you can stick up your ass retard op:
I have hundreds of cheap burnable DVDs (far from golden archival Kodak CDs standard) that are roughly 2 decades old and still flawlessly readable.
Stored properly in dark and dry storage they'll last long, long time.

This is assuming that you take the dark matter hypothesis to be true, something which the guy who proposed the damn thing doesn't any more and instead supports a modified gravity equation.

tapes are easy, since it's hip to be retro (for some reason the sales of cassette tapes and vinyls has skyrocketed in recent years)

the funny thing is, i've been burning CDs since SCSI cd-rom drives first came out in the mid 90s

and I used the archival media, stuff like taiyo yuden, the best available on the market

and guess what...a lot of that shit is disentigrating now after being kept in hard cases in the dark in fancy city apartment buildings with no moisture or humidity.

disc rot happens period. optical discs are not an archival format.

The metal you speak of is encased in the fucking plastic, the image only shows a degraded label.

what?

the scratches are from someone rubbing it on a tshirt in a circular motion. when you clean optical disks you go in a straight line from the middle to the outside edge, over and over at every angle

>optical discs are not an archival format.
Golden archival media rated for 100+ years under specified conditions beg to differ.

What is archival format?
Tapes are out of the question for common folk because of the price.
Stone tablets have low data density.
Juggling data on HDDs whether spinning rust or SSD might seem ok till some fuck up doesn't fry both of your copies or by some retarded action you catch a crypto virus.

>buy physical game

Fuck that's probably it. I still don't know how the manual came apart of where the "push to eject" plastic mechanism is. Explains the cracks on the CD though.

people were always this fucking dumb its just that now everyone is on the internet and mob rule is more important than it used to be in the days when the only people on the internet were introverts

it doesnt help that zoomers are way worse at jumping on bandwagons than people used to be. back when i was 14 was before postmodern rhetoric had taken over the internet and people used arguments like 'you're on the wrong side of history' which isn't to say that it didnt exist but it wasn't fucking everywhere like it is now

it's not "rated for 100+ years" that's advertising bullshit straight from the manufacturer. has any of it been around for fucking 100 years? lol.

honest question, what do you think that is? i'll give you 3 guesses who made the disc

You can make a physical copy of the compact disc or dvd or blue ray disc and you can save the image file.

I suggest you read up on various testing being done not only on optical media.

Is that CD-R? Verbatim CD-R? Taio Yuden CD-R?

Over the years I've found Sony CD/DVDs to be better than Verbatim, as far as easy-to-get ones.

All media is physical. Your hard drives will fail sooner than discs will rot.

they were overpriced as fuck in my area
as weird as it might sound for you, but the same manufacturer can produce several tiers of products and the "verbatim" brand statistically was the most reliable (especially when bought from chain stores) and least prone to forgery by jewish chinks.

it's marketing gibberish dude.

the verbatim blue cd-rs from the 90s and early 2000s (they have not been good for many years)
