People thought THIS looked good back in the day? Yikes
People thought THIS looked good back in the day? Yikes
oof
no it always looked like shit
Yoinks! in before boomers come in defense
That really is a big OOF from me
well made sprite work combined with 3D elements like SOTN or megaman X4 probably aged a million times better than this
but yes, it did look good for the day
novelty does indeed have a value of its own, and the pre-rendered backgrounds are still pretty good looking
I doubt anyone praised this game’s graphics
People thought the FMVs looked good, not that.
the stupid lego block hands always rubs me the wrong way. I love the chibi style, but the hands are just so bad
I mocked the low-budget, low-fidelity jpg backgrounds, back when an entire room of anime dorks were salivating over the first copy that anyone had ever seen and played
needless to say, my opinion was unpopular, and needless to say, I'm still right
I think the blocky characters were always thought to be quite shitty looking.
Its contemporaries were not better.
this
I remember installing a demo for this and thinking how shit the graphics were and how stupid the characters looked
How the fuck could the developers/artists think those models were acceptable? They look like a fucking joke.
Early 3D console games that looked like shit were handled in much the same way as Switch games that look like shit are handled today. But instead of "But it's console gaming ON THE GO" it was "But it's 3D gaming IN THE HOME". People just excused it endlessly
Compare it to this trash. Nobody will ever remember the name Persona as far as RPGs go, this garbage is dead on arrival.
Everyone were blinded by the pre-rendered backgrounds.
My controller won't work with this what program should I download.
Honestly, it's just the arms that look terrible. The rest of it just looks chibi, but the arms are completely fucked. Why are the elbows so narrow?
>installing a demo for PSX
If you're going to shitpost at least make sure to know what you're talking about
this is what I dont understand, people in this thread, are complaining about the models, which are stylized and 3d, and look exactly how they are supposed to look
meanwhile, the backgrounds are so shitty that they didn't even make them into proper tiles, or animate them, or create vanishing points, or create foregrounds or backgrounds, or anything even like the very simple work they did on 16 bit systems
the backgrounds are LITERALLY FUCKING PICTURES because they didn't feel like doing the work of modeling the city or doing any extra work at all, and somehow many of you are (and were) ok with that, like you're saying the opposite of the truth, which is that somehow the backgrounds looked 'good,' that is pure fucking insanity to me, you dont live in the same mental space I do, and I guess you never will
the difference is EFFORT, square didnt make any fucking EFFORT on the city
I'm pretty sure the overworld character models looked pretty goofy even back then but the pre-rendered backgrounds I'm sure were neat.
the game came out for PC during the 90s too RETARD. So yes, it was on demo discs at the time
>ITT: underage
People were blown away by it, the overworld models looked about as good as Mario 64, the battle models looked incredible (still good today imo) pre rendered backgrounds of that quality & abundance was super impressive even when compared to Resident Evil, which pretty thought was the most realistic game ever a few months prior, then of course the god damn FMV's
Generally we knew Crash & a few others looked better, but they were not RPG's & not on the same scale
almost all psx games looked like garbage
*which we thought was the most realistic game ever
zoom zoom
People like these are so fucking easy to know they're full of shit.
We all talked in our middle school cafeteria about how the lego people looked weird, but it wasn't about the graphics. It was just the design that looked weird.
I remember completely disregarding Dragon Quest whatever number it was because I saw screenshots in magazines and you STILL couldn't see your characters.
Boomers actually played this shit? Jesus
They made games for you too! Check out those graphics, it's just like watching a MOVIE!
Honestly if this was the end all be all in graphics id be fine.
If you didnt live through the change from nes to snes to playstation and 64 you shouldn't have a say so in this thread.
This was ff in 3d which was revolutionary for its time. One pf the first 3d rpgs.
It was greatly loved for when it came out. I didn't see anyone complain about it.
20 and younger crowd first system was ps2 xbox and gamecube.
Which was the era of downgrading difficulty in games while improving graphics
>they actually remastered this for PS4
What the hell
>improving graphics
hardly
It wasn't the change from psx to 64 even but it was a change
Making Ricky Bobby proud.
They had more imagination back then. He looked like what you posted, but we saw him as looking like pic related.
It helped that he looked like that in battles too. Everything moving and animating in FF7 was a real visual treat.
no
No, even for the time it looked pretty bad.
>OOF, YIKES, YOINKS
It was released on PC as well you fucking dipshit. Try google next time before posting.
In what fucking way do you think my post has anything to do with it being or not being on the PC? My post is just comparing what it looks like to its contemporaries you fucking retard.
This thread just shows the absolute state of Yea Forums dumb newfags with 0 imagination to understand that times were different and retarded oldschool dudebros which would have been laughed of just a few years ago. This is fucking disgusting, and I'm not even that old
Models were bad even by those times but game great anyhow. And in battle they actually better ones too.
