What is even the point of Pharah when this new guy can jump as high as her, has a hitscan weapon and can heal himself and others.
Sure, he can't stay in the air, but being in the air for too long is a liability anyway.

But you can hit the generator. Which has 250 hp. Which means he's basically unkillable 1-on-1, what with also being able to heal himself.

I think the problem is that dps heroes doesn't bring anything to the table. Just look and new hero and compare him to someone like soldier 76. Both can shoot and aoe heal. Instead of sprint he has crouch jump. Soldier can shoot helix rocket, Batiste can heal you across the map and make you immortal.

It really was a stupid decision in retrospect. No doubt they just wanted people to play a large variety of characters in each game, but the speed and ease of switching actually wound up ruining it. You pick rock, but the enemy can just instantly switch to paper, so you instantly switch to scissors, but the enemy just instantly switches to rock. It's a pointless chase. And the actual best strategy just winds up being finding a combination of 6 characters that covers the most possible shit and never changing.

It's a class based shooter designed to be a rock paper scissors. If you want to lock characters and not lose from the start if the enemy picked rock then you will have to either make all characters the same or remove a lot of them.

Just design your characters better and throw the rock paper scissors garbage out of the window. But it takes effort to make a good game, especially one as complex as a class-based shooter. Why does TF2 only have 9 classes? Because adding any more makes it very hard to make them not feel redundant.

TF2 has nine classes because it's not limited to six players per team. Weapon switching allows changing the strategy even more, adding or taking away some approaches. No class is truly unviable but some loadouts are.

Overwatch's main selling points are the pretty graphics and the large character selection. Sales for being a comp game aren't going to be relevant, the comp players are the people that already play. Axing the number of options for everyone because a loud portion is upset will hurt the game on the long run. Not to mention they can't sell as many skins without many heroes.
I don't think it can be helped. If you paid for a game and you feel obligated to amortize the cost it's ultimately your problem. Overwatch goes into free weekends often so you can gauge how bad it is.
