Journalists are unlikely to rate something like this high, find a specialized dungeon crawler reviewer on YouTube or something. Though those usually hate anything Japanese.

The only way to attack is by charging up an attack and waiting 10 seconds for cool down.
You can do basic attacks too but there’s still a cooldown.
Do this for 9 dungeons.
There’s also biological weapons you can use which are like magic but you can only use them like 3 times before the weapon kills you. And the bio weapons are an exeremely rare drop.
The dungeons are also littered with puzzles that don’t let you progress until you solve them.
Some puzzles require rare item drops from enemies on other dungeons. It sounds like something a side quest would have you do but it’s a necessary part of the game.
The story is fucking god awful try hard drama shit.

3.5/5 stars on amazon with a big price cut despite it releasing half a year ago.
Meanwhile the disgaea switch version which released on the same month(july) in japan has 4 stars and selling for the same msrp....

I think they lost their touch after merging into Spike Chunsoft. Then again, they wouldn't have to merge if they didn't have any problems.
Both Spike and Chunsoft have released many impressive games, but after the merge they have only release shovelware. Danganronpa was excusable, because it was a VN and gameplay being clunky didn't matter that much.

One of their recent games is Jump Force, which is the prime example of their state right now.

Has anyone imported it? I like everything I saw from the gameplay trailers, but progression and pacing are like the lynchpins for a solid jrpg, and you can only tell that from playing.

The post above says that it's very slow and grindy with abundance of puzzles in dungeons.

Its the most low effort genre to exist

It does not feel good.
Every weapon has the same animation.
There are NO STATS.
Defense can only be changed by what your wearing.
Weapon crafting is handled badly.
Like you have to go out of your way to even unlock a crafting bench, instead of the game starting you off with a basic one. Which by the way is easily missable.
And weapons you do make won’t even do much damage unless you dump shitload of points into mastery skills for specific bash pierce or cut type weapons. Which makes it so you HAVE to have a character use that weapon all the time otherwise anyone else using it is useless with it.
And since the point of the game has characters dying as much as possible you’ll quickly lose the characters that work well the weapons you have.

They’re actually harder to make than traditional jrpgs believe it or not.

I wish, they do still have some good writers that Kodaka didn't take away with him, like Danganronpa Kirigiri's writer. I'm sure he would be a great successor, but Danganronpa is tied to its art and music so much and Kodaka took both artists and the composer with him. Maybe it could work if they named it a spin-off, like "Danganronpa Alter" or something. People are still hungry for more Danganronpa, and being a spin-off would allow it to have different artist and composer.

His son sets up a dungeon game for you to clear, then you beat the mad scientist with the power of friendship, despite him saying power of friendship doesn’t exist (he’s an otaku)
Then scientist kills his daughter.
Daughter gets re-reborn for the 3rd time.
All the other clones die.
She goes on an adventure around the world and finds someone else because the title of the game means 0 lives remaining but in some games 0 lives left still has you playing.

V3 is pretty shit in terms of it being a game tho desu.
