In the gameplay video, they specifically select the morning option and you see current environment change from night to morning. The lighting doesn't change but that's probably because the game is still in development. When the game comes out you can change to night time and only play at night if you want, aside from missions that take place during day.

Oh man, the entire Coruscant chapter was so amazing. If I remember correctly, it went Entertainment District, then Industrial, then High Rise/Business(?), right?
Honestly, aside from just making a Coruscant game outright, (RIP 1313), a cyberpunk game would fare really well in a Coruscant setting.

It would also work out well, even with the sunshine. Have your Entertainment District as the primary setting for the game, with the Industrial & High Rises as outlier missions.
The depth that the ED is at, along with cloudcover, would make for a good generic cyberpunk setting. Understandably, the file size for such a city would be hilariously large, nigh impossible.

Ah yeah that place, the one you see in the screenshot is of the city exposed to the sun, people who can afford to live in such a luxurious place, and actual real literal exposure to sunlight, which is good for mental ehalth, below that is another part of the city, not exposed to sunlight, or is just barely getting any sunlight. Just neon signs, fluorescent bulbs and street lights giving any sort of light just to see shit 24/7, the air is bad, prostitutes everywhere, the Triad is also there, and a PMC is the only true police force in there since some civs are actually armed with deadly firearms and weapons, and many augmented people live there, with low tech cyberware/augs.

CDPR has been a console developer since witcher 2. They cater to that crowd now, not PC.
Whatever will work on a controller and console hardware. At least in the vertical slice they were kind enough to pre-downgrade it.

the fact that CDPR has rebooted this game several times in development and still has no release date means that the game is likely still in development hell at this very moment. Combine this with the fact that CDPR's grasp of Cyberpunk is so loose that it challenges the very definition of what it even means to be cyberpunk has made me lose all faith in this game. I won't be preordering, i won't be buying, i won't be paying attention to yet another wannabe Rockstar who has no idea how to make even a single game without nearly going bankrupt every time.

I just want an immersive Cyberpunk game with a good story and some replayablity. Not every part of the city will look the same and teh game has day/night cycle, so I don't understand why people are so upset about muh sun. I'm not really bothered by the idea of an 80s cyberpunk game having a day/night cycle but why the fuck would you show the day part in your promotional material? That's not what people care about.

This is the biggest disappointment. Instead of a Ghost in the Shell game with New Vegas tier RP potential, I'm forced to be a shitty merc with a pre-defined voice, in a setting that looks like slightly futuristic GTA.

I was around to see and get hyped for the 2013 footage as well, but unlike you I'm capable of understanding that a game's final product entirety is not included in the trailer, and that a second trailer coming out does not necessarily contradict the first one.
Do you seriously, honestly think there won't be a night cycle possible given the witcher games' night cycle, and CDPR's history with modding just because a sunny trailer came out? And even in the second trailer there were multiple night scenes.

It's not "completely different themes." It's showing off that the game is not homogeneous.

Cyberpunk is noir in a techno world. It's about dirty secrets in a twilight vertical city. It's not about there being sunlight or not. There can be either. But there's an aesthetic to it that CDPR just don't understand which is a shame.
If there are more night time scenes then they should have lead with that for their promotional effort and kept it more in line with the teaser which hit the aesthetic nail on the head instead of using the promotional stuff from what appears to be California in summer which doesn't encapsulate that vertical closed in city scape which cyber punk ellicits.
I don't think it's even the sunny depiction that bothers me. It's just how flat everything is. There's no seedy underbelly. Or executives who live in their ivory towers away from the muck and piss. It's just like any city you could go to today which just doesn't get me.
I think that from a marketing perspective however, starting off by showing the city and night would have been a much better choice to get people on board.
Just my opinion man.

See that's what I'd want. Obviously there should be a sun, but the atmosphere should look dirty and smoggy. Could actually help disguise issues with long distance rendering aswell, throw up some smog and help alleviate some performance.
