Chief should never have been made deeply emotionally attached to Cortana because the total time in canon they had known each other was so fucking short. It is one of the most annoying things 343 has done in the story. And it's not like Chief was super emotionally stunted either. He had always had relationships with his team and understood the value of human life. He isn't a super autist, even if he is relatively odd.

Also, they could have brought Blue Team in much better. Instead they put them in with minimal explanation and sidelined them for the new donut steel team.
