especially great for PC players

fucking good games with the shitposting and cringe drama

youtube.com/watch?v=QPsdxR0zzNE

It was worth it just for the LAN parties

without*

It was pretty cool

>pencil behind his ear while doing a rad pose
Literally me

I'd give anything to go back. Not necessarily because the games were better but because I was happier and enjoyed things.

Always something to do, somewhere to go. Even if you weren't up for your own games your friends wee always playing something new.

Lan parties down the street, internetcafes, aol was a blessing and a curse. It let all the shitters on but it made the internet so vastly popular, so many people that couldnt get on but had something to offer to it could. All the things people didnt know about became popular.

It was a fantastic sense that you could have fun anywhere, like every stone overturned led to a new experience.

But now its all gone.

Attached: 1442892453667.jpg (587x729, 79K)

Totally Rad.

>I'd give anything to go back

I wouldn't.

It was based af and we were wearing the shittiest cloths in the history

I had exact printer shit didn't work at all.
Fuck HP.

you could look at games with cool covers, get them and they be great.

Also, you were a kid so still willing to try out other genres than your go-tos.

Be honest user, when's the last time you tried a different genre?

hold on, it wasn't the 70s

It was still a generally niche hobby you'd easily get made fun of for enjoying.
Puzzle games could still be made because you couldn't just look up the solution on the internet.
Horror games could actually be about horror and not action as to appeal to a broad audience.
First person shooters weren't about regenerating health or pushing a political agenda.
The audience of gaming magazines were hetero white males and they were allowed to acknowledge it.

>90s
>nobody calls anybody "gamer"
>just going to your friends' house to play the latest game that they rented
>no social media
>music was solid
>fire was cool
>sunglasses were cool
>trading cards were still a thing
>kids rode skateboards not drug addicts
>there were roller skating rinks
>bringing your memory card to your friend's house to play new maps you made
>that one kid who told you lies about pokemon
>that one kid who got video games for fucking easter
>games were fun and difficult
>licensed games were still a thing with every movie getting a shitty video game spinoff that you played anyway cause fuck it it's fun
>players weren't entitled bastards complaining about everything

pretty fucking rad

fucking terrible. there is like only a few games worth playing on any given system.

>It was still a generally niche hobby you'd easily get made fun of for enjoying.
Now you get called racist, incel and whatnots in larger playground instead the school playground

the internet wasn't really that much of a thing yet, so it hadn't ruined video games by that point

nigga 70's was groovy
90s was tasteless baggy rags, just watch Friends to remind yourself

In '99, I was 7 years old - just old enough to understand and appreciate some things happening around me and still young enough to be naive of anything outside of what was given to me. I was a huge fucking Pokemon nerd and always brought my Game Boy Color link cable with me wherever I went (as I didn't know about the laser detector on the top of the console). I would regularly go to the library to look up Pokemon on a Pokedex fan site and print out whole pages (in black and white), collecting them in a leather red and black checkered binder. One day, my pops bought a computer and upgraded our internet to a better form of Dial Up and bought this cool game called EverQuest. I'd play a Dwarf Paladin named Gimlock Ironwood and explore this amazing 3D world and meet people over the World Wide Web, which I'd talk about with my friends on the playground while we played with my Hot Wheels collection. When my Dad would get home and play, I watched him and studied him and we'd have a grand 'ole time. Eventually, a few years later, he got a second computer for my Mom but she would let me play EverQuest with my Dad after he bought a second copy (which I honestly wonder how we were able to do that with internet at the time).

Honestly? It was a really magical time. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the very catch of the time thanks to my amazing family. I've gotten to witness the evolution of vidya on PC from its most explosive boom into 3D graphics and it has been a wild ride since. To this day, my old man and I gave played every MMO together, from City of Heroes to WoW and beyond.

It was fucking dope. You could go to flea markets and garage sales and games were just everywhere for pennies. I NEVER paid more for an older, used game because "muh rare gems". I laugh at every fag who says games were just as mainstream back then. Bullshit. When you found a game for an older system chances were it was 2 or 5 bucks. 10 to 15 complete. Plus, everybody didnt have microcomputers in their pockets with worldwide price charts. Most of the flea market people didnt know shit about games and considered them toys. Not to mention there wasnt some fat sperg asking about them every hour like now days.

Amazing because there was innovation out the ass, every detail of games wasn't spoiled before you played, games weren't as politicized or PC beyond the occasional ass ranting about violent games turning you into Satan.

It was amazing and I want to go back just so I can play Sonic, FF7, Earthworm Jim, Crash Bandicoot, and Metal Gear Solid for the first time again.

>games were fun and difficult
This is the thing I miss the most.

You could gun down niggers and faggots in the street. The police would give you a commendation. They called it "controlling the AIDS epidemic"

Yo, how did I forget about this detail. My dad had friends come over every other weekend for DnD, and when they weren't playing that, they'd have a LAN party and play Warcraft 2 and eventually StarCraft, where I eventually got into the RTS scene myself. Shit was cash.

remember unlocking shit like characters and skins for completing challenges that were hard and not just sinking time into the game?

Unreasonably nostalgic. It’s the knick knacks that unreasonably sell it

>spending a rainy summer evening with your best friend as a 10 year old kid sniping niggers in GTA1 on PS1 with a bazooka in your summerhouse after a long hard day of building your treehouse with whatever that was not nailed down

I..i dont feel so good, Yea Forums...

Pretty good, mostly cause I had actual friends back then.

You gotta quit living in the past, my man. It's time to go make some new memories.

100%ing Tekken 2 from blockbuster at sleepovers...

It was great. You could get drunk at work, never had to pay alimony and give your secretary a slap on the ass and there was nothing she could do about it because she needs the money.

Simpler times

Attached: 1524714208196.jpg (1600x1104, 318K)

That's why you had Everquest

>Mom and Pop game rental store
>No late fees, rent as long as you want
>Were the nicest old folks
>Even had a giant cardboard cutout of Tahu from Bionicle for some reason
>They had to close down because they didn't do so well financially
>Sold my parents their only copy of Super Smash Brothers, as well as Donkey Kong 64, Majora's Mask and Pokemon Stadium for dirt cheap because we were regulars and the old folks adored me
>Gave them a big hug and cried a little bit
>Asked if I could have the Tahu cutout because I was a greedy shit, they said yes
>Couldn't fit it in our car so we'd have to get it another day
>Come back and the store was closed and empty

What was the last "real" era here with soul?

Attached: 1549505718815.jpg (2590x4061, 1.27M)

What I miss most about the 90s and 00s gaming wise is that people played games longer. Now it's all flavor of the month shit.

This. Fun and difficult. No instant gratification. Games weren't afraid to treat you like a little bitch making you sucking game's cock. Nowadays you install any game and the game sucks your cock. I miss sucking game's cock.

Better games than these days, better community than these days.
But on the flip side it wasn't as socially acceptable as these days, so there's that.

I feel like you just learned the word "unreasonably" and don't know how to use it.

Unironically early 360 era.

Companies still experimented with games, and there were still a handful of self published games. Xbox Arcade, no adverts forced in, few companies still had their old guard from the ps2 era.

Gaming in the 90s was the shittiest thing ever. Lots of nostalgia fags in here but no one is going to play Super Mario for 5000 hours like WoW or CSGO.

People think false advertising is bad now, back then you didn't even know if you could do anything that the box showed. It was so easy to con kids with shit games because word of mouth was the only way to get info besides shill mags.

Gaming was tedious and expensive, you had to go drive somewhere to rent a game and that is a whole other story of bullshit

The graphics sucked and the ONLY reason games were ((((hard)))) was to stop people from beating the whole thing in 2 days on a rental. Talk about artificial difficulty

tldr

>annoying
>expensive
>bad graphics
>100% scam/broken games
>Sold out games
>games never in stock to rent even in major citys

Now I can run multiple generations of consoles on my telephone but oldfags will still think things are worse today

Attached: kjtz2gc74sn01.jpg (1500x1500, 198K)

I've noticed this too. Used to be where not many people knew about or played games, with a few people owning a console. Now it's extremely commonplace. We'd go to school and had to take home a piece of paper signing if we had a phone line at home, computer and/or internet. Now it's assumed we've all three. Feels weird, man.

dunno why but Nirvana is one of those things that makes me 'nostalgic' for something I wasn't even there to experience, considering Kurt Cobain died months after I was born. I don't even particularly like their music but hearing it on the radio and seeing old pictures of them gives me a very strong sense of that false nostalgia.

Where do you fucking live, nigga?

Chicago

Is this peak zoomerposting?

I've always wondered who bought all the fucking shovelware. Now I know.

No it actually happened and I lived it. I wasn't born in the 90s, you can't be a (((((90s kid)))))) if you were born in the 90s.

this image is from 2000 or later
>bionicle lego
>Availability 2000–2010, 2015–2016

>no one is going to play Super Mario for 5000 hours
>like WoW

That's where you're dead fucking wrong, you dumb fucking zoomer-brain. I played the FUCK out of all the Super Marios, with 2 being my favorite. I played EW from its release up until Gates of Discord as well.

>Gaming was tedious and expensive, you had to go drive somewhere to rent a game

Oh WOE IS ME, THE ONE WHO MUST GO OUTSIDE. Fucking pathetic.

>The graphics sucked

Fucking implying. Mortal Combat had sprite graphics that were ballin' as fuck and 3D games were just then peaking. We finally got memory cards that could save our goddamn progress instead of generated or stage codes we had to memorize and write down.

Get lost with your garbage taste and shit opinion you goddamn mongoloid.

>((((()))))

Do you have autism? Holy fuck.

It wasn't even shovelware. Any kid worth his salt could tell you what was shovelware.

It was games like Resident Evil 2

>OHHH YOU HAVE TO PLAY DIS GAEM
>out of stock rental
>spend $60 of my hard earned grass cutting money

the game is all tank controls and jump scares and I can't return it

It was awesome! Nothing but fun came out of turning on that PS1 or N64.
Rarely ever played a bad game. Renting games from Blockbuster every Friday. Tripping out on the 3D gameplay. Games had soul because devs had to do as much as they could with the limited software they had.
After that go to the beach, head downtown to see the latest disney movies, go home for dinner, more vidya, pass out.
It truly was a great time.
God knows where those pokemon cards of mine are and how much they're worth.

Best selling PC game of the 1990s was Myst.
Best selling PC game of the 2010s will be PUBG
This is all you need to know

Isn't that Katie from AwkwardZombie?

God you're fucking stupid. I didn't ask you what games you like.

There is no way in hell you spent even 500 hours playing Super Mario LUL

Attached: baINLAUH.jpg (800x450, 34K)

I have other experience, born '89 first thing i remember playing was Amiga don't remeber much of it but all games i played were pirated. Then came chineese NES, so i played shit-ton of mario, contra lots of junk and hacked games.
Everyone i knew had some gaming system so there was always something new to play. After that i got my PC when i was 10 and i'm stuck to it to this day. RIP.

>There's no way a kid didn't have but a few games so they played them religiously because it's all they had

Here's your (You). Stop replying any time.

I have fond memories of playing DOOM on the family computer before my parents got home. And looking up porn.

Attached: old computer desk.jpg (400x400, 41K)

>tfw used to get bootleg scanned issues of Compute's Gazette from my pals in America to stay up to date of the latest C64 games

I played lots of link to the past with my cousin, she just wore her pijama and we sat in front of the tv passing the controller all night and talked about the game.
I assume younglins can't experience this without the "look at me, imma gamer, yes i play videogames and im really good at them. Don't forget to like and subscribe to my youtube channel, and go to my patreon for an exclusive photo of me playing in my underwaer? OMGLMFAO!."

you do realize that (((echoes))) isn't a quotation mark, right?

it indicates that the object contained is jewish.

I believe so, yeah, from her Twitter or something

NES didn't track hours played. Get fucked. There is no objective way to know how much you played any game.

Also I bet you are a huge faggot IRL

>Tally up all of my old cards
>Laughably, one is a 1st Edition Shadowless Magikarp
>Turns out the whole collection values around $800 or so outside of commons, uncommons and simple rares
>Obviously can't find a proper buyer but try anyway
>Only store willing is a retro store and offers $90 for the whole binder packed full of extremely rare cards

The era that i grew up in of course

Literally too many games, you played the shit out of the ones you had and borrowed your friends. You also didnt need the newest console, you just played what you had

And Jewish is a way to describe things that I don't like. This isn't Reddit, kid.

Playing videogames on this was NOT comfy.

Attached: natural-wood-bookcase-waterbed-ii.jpg (1428x807, 207K)

Fucking this, my peak was pokemon red version. I got stuck when I was about 6, didn't know you needed to get oak's parcel from the poke mart, so I just wandered between pallet town and the elite 4 entrance training my charmander.
I eventually evolved it into a charizard before even getting the pokedex. My older brothers never let me live it down.

Damn.
Nevermind then.

Attached: 1546290591466.png (450x350, 8K)

So you dislike 90's kids because... why?
Feeling left out?

The media tried hard to portray vidya as evil.
My parents thought any videogame with death was unacceptable to the point they wouldn't even let me play Lemmings.

Not him, but I would play the NES from one to three hours every day from when I was 4 to 8. Let's low ball at one hour. That's 1460 hours of NES games. We only had ten games.

Further expanding on my point since all these 20 something wannabe faggots got so assblasted I just attacked their lates 2000s persona...

>most games had no save feature, it was based on dumbass codes or gotcha addon memory
>experimental graphics led to wonky ass "photorealism" sprites that looked like pixel robot people
>had to drive to another location to play the best games with the best graphics
>best games were never at your house because arcades
>arcades were super expensive and attracted peados
>5 generations of "JUST LIKE ARCADE" advertising until they finally hit the mark and arcades were dead anyway
>$60 game in 1995 LUL
>Game is broken can't update until the next prod run of carts
>have to buy more jew shill extras like "game X guide" to combat the lack of internet
>no backwards comparability on console
>Virtual boy
>Handhelds with no back light
>AA Batteries

I could do this forever, sorry the generation you grew up in was not the best thing ever since blowjobs and hookers.

Attached: Super_soaker_50.jpg (470x308, 31K)

That still isn't even close 5000 hours in one game what the fuck is wrong with the reading comprehension of you people.

Yo what the fuck, I owned that gun and my parents that bed.

>Pokémon Gold version comes out
>"Oh fuck, I recognize that bird"
>Dig out your VHS tape of the first episode of pokemon, fast forward to the end
>Ho-oh flies right over the rainbow
The sheer amount of wonder and mystery child me felt at that moment will stay with me forever

Don't feed the troll, my man. You're absolutely right though.

You're a retarded nigger.

I love my childhood vidya memories but if you legitimately want to return to that, I feel bad.
Find something you like now, make new nostalgia.
In 2013 i went through a phase of collecting old vidya I had in the 90s, now I'm nostalgic for that 2013 period. Pretty neat.

Attached: the_only_thing_he_wants_to_be_he_has_already_been.jpg (360x394, 73K)

What do you mean don't feed the troll? It's not trolling to say that there is no way you sank 5000 hours into one game.

Sorry you went on an autistic rant about 10 games or something completely different than what I wrote.

name at least 5 games worth playing at 1995 for each platform

is that motherfucking lego slizers in the window?

The pokemon rumours were always fun, remember pikablu? It's just fucking marill now, but back then? A BLUE PIKACHU BRO, FUCKING BLUE. THE LAST ONE WAS JUST GREEN AND BLACK, YELLOW IF YOUR MOM BOUGHT YOU A GBC.

>each platform

What makes you think we had every single console, a pc and lived in an arcade? Fuck off, retard.

Rugrats and Rocket Power are turbo fucking gay. Then again, that is a girl in your image. I shouldn't be surprised by poor taste.

Attached: 1550569741875.png (708x540, 367K)

How the fuck did everyone across the universe come up with Pikablu?

I recall it being a popular post on gamefaqs that we all latched on to?

On PlayStation, I had Small Soldiers, Army Men 3DO, Abe's Odd World, Jet Moto and Crash. On N64, I had Turok, Majora's Mask, Pokemon Stadium, Super Smash Bros and Donkey Kong 64. Good fuckin' times. Good times.

How dare you.
How.
DARE.

>buy game
>put it in console/pc
>play it

She had no control over what was on. Do you expect her to ask to hold off on taking a picture until a better show was on?

(YOU).

>Install game over night on PC
>Leave console on over night because no memory card

The only good thing about rugrats was the parents, and they didn't get enough attention in the series. Rocket Power has literally no redeeming qualities.

GLORIOUS. Diablo 2 runs all night, ragnarok online, Age of Empires/Half Life LANS with the family, and LAN parties with the neighbors. Never again

Attached: 1527144511679.jpg (473x555, 137K)

Imagine

Dude, is it me or were the Play Station Demo disks from the magazine every month creepy as fuck in atmosphere?

No one gave a shit about framerate

How so.

On the bright side, if you find them, you could sell individual rare cards for a few dollars of pocket change if you ever felt like it. It's also fun just to calculate their financial value just for the sake of it.

Know what? You're absolutely right.

90s was a good time. Everything went to shit with 9/11

But the "war on terror" was /k/ino.

Wait, what?

I remember one of them was dark and played creepy music, the games were on monitors attached to a metal spire that rotated with a churning clunky noise. Picking a game involved dipping it into a vat of acid or something. A few others I remember had similar themes. The disks had a pink and black swirl and always had games like one where you could push the walls to turn the map and people would fall and fucking explode. Or Gex, Medievil, one with robots that bad screaming and was Japanese I think? It was pretty spooky.

>Join a Diablo 2 game
>Ring of the Lion of the Lion of the Lion of the Lion of the Lion in the ground outside
>Go to pick it up
>Get instagibbed, someone picks my shit up and kicks me from the server

The Brave Fencer Musashi one was cool, had that neat wall running segment with the falling stone head

My first thought, ouch.

Games were quality

Barely any bugs

Expansions existed

Games were bleeding edge and made by real gamers

No PC bullshit

Genre's weren't oversaturated

Graphics could make you go WOW

Resolutions, graphics, framerates console gamers didn't know existed

LANs, DnD groups and BBS boards are a microcosm of what went right pre-social media. Small local groups that worked out differences and disputes through honor principle and shared passion, also the necessity for interaction in real space and not strictly through a monitor.

I'm a '98 zoomer and this was pretty close to my childhood until 2007 happened. I think the only thing that wasn't the same was people used the term "gamer" and stuff like MySpace had emerged so we had budding social media.

Lans

Only real con

It was pretty great. LAN parties tons of great western RPGs. The end of it had Everquest. The 90s in general were just better than any other time and i didnt even grow up in the 90s i grew up in the late 70s early 80s. I really miss it. We had it all and we fucked it all up.

Fucking based, especially my poor friend who never got much but he got the fucking golden edition of Ocarina of Time for FUCKING EASTER, FUCKING EASTER.

People who think the Early Zoomer era wasn't the last soulful era are utterly blinded by the Zoomer vs Boomer meme. It was the emergence of a lot of trash trends but it was still the last "good" era.

Guys, you can move on. Just find someone that makes you glad to wake up in the morning. Whether that be a woman or man.

90's rock/alternative/grunge was amazing.

It was the opposite of the flashy 80's hairband nonsense, and bangs like Pearl Jam were nothing but dudes singing their hearts out with real talent and no gimmicks.

It was fun. Never played so much with friends since then.

Sorry it's been a while and I'm old as shit.

I remember on launch PSX was actually pretty weak. Each generation afterwards had way better lineup at launches.

>1995
nice reading comprehension

Attached: 1550798917777.jpg (358x442, 77K)

In 95 it was purely the N64 despite the PS1 launching in 94.

MGS was 98 and FF7 was 97, the rest were around that time too.

'95 in the US was purely SNES/Genesis/N64

Growing up is hard. Find something you're good at, work at it, make money, support yourself. Games will feel fun again in your spare time.

There was so little choice in games and each purchase was a big deal, so whether it was good or bad you still finished it. I would generally go to Rogers and rent a game before purchasing it unless i beat the game in the time I rented it (7 days) No such thing as a backlog back then.

Was about to say the same

are those Bogdanoff brothers?

That is why people are still playing these 90's games even today. Hell, bet you can watch someone speed run super mario for the 10th time today on twitch.

whole lotta false nostalgia

I played my NES until 93 when I got my Sega Genesis. Never had a SNES. Only room for one console in the "family" room. Genesis games I got were from birthdays, Christmas and borrowed from friends or rented from Movie Man. My favorite games were Sonic, Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Streets of Rage- basically Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection lol.

My friend's older brother had a Sega CD and we were playing Lunar and it was beautiful at the time. Well he was playing the asshole never let me touch the game.

Gaming magazines were great with Game Pro, EGM, Game Informer ( before Gamestop took over) NIntendo Power, but the best was Game Fan and Gamers Republic.

Corny video game movies like Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Double Dragon and I'm gonna throw Surf Ninjas in there.

Had a shit Packard Bell and could play Wolfenstein 3D and Quest for Glory IF we had enough RAM. Mostly had to deal with dad bitching about space being taken up on the hard drive because he never upgraded the PC. I remember getting Sim City 2000 for my birthday and we couldn't run it. I've never played it and he never let me return it.

N64 and the summer of Ocarina of TIme was amazing for me, I played when I wasn't at school and it's all I did until I beat it.

I didn't find any other N64 games I really liked and my brother traded in the N64 for a PS1 and I got Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid and Jade Cocoon. Didn't have as much time to play because I had a job but I was experiencing the golden age of JRPGs.

I'd mention my love for the Dreamcast but I got mine in 2000. Also one big memory of 90's was motherfucking Slurpees while gaming.

I cut all the dogfight chatter from a VHS running topgun onto a tape and put it in my purple sony walkman, i put my BMX helmet on and played flightsims like f16, f19 or jetfighter for hours. It was ACE.

anyone remember selling their 16 bit systems for the newer n64 or psx?

I remember trading my genesis and super nintendo in and only getting like $20 for the genesis since so many other people dumped their console as being too kiddy for the newer omg so mature video game consoles

it was fucking awesome, and not only because we had so little to choose from. video games was a popular subculture. lots of experimenting and pushing boundaries. rumours of weird and exciting titles being spread on the schoolground like Postal, GTA and Ganja Farmer. around that time tho it became mainstream and reprints of Fallout 2 removed childkilling. it didn't exactly ruin everything tho, that came later when publishers really started buying everything up, killing studios and oversaturating the market with one genre at the expense of others and the market just generally shifting more to the US.

>waiting for hours for battle.net to update to play starcraft on 56k aol internet

Maybe in the US, but here, in europe, the N64 wasn't big. How could you not wanted a playstation when you saw games like Monster Trucks, Destruction Derby, Ridge Racer, Resident Evil, PES. The N64 only had GoldenEye and Ocarina of Time, which came way too late. Kids only ditched their super nintendo for a playstation or a saturn (if you were this kind of guy).

>Each new console generation was a technological leap and genuinely exciting
>The only video footage you'd ever see of upcoming titles was the occasional VHS tape on the front of a games mag
>LAN parties were a blast, but it always took forever to set up the coax network to begin with
>GamesMaster with Patrick Moore and Dominic Diamond was a lot of fun
>Playing X-Wing vs TIE Fighter over a 33.6k modem was not a lot of fun
>Death Tank Zwei and Micro Machines are the greatest multiplayer fun you can have in one room

I think it had to do with the crime wave of the early 90s, i remember not even being able to play cowboys and indians and make gun fingers because it was bad

Lol. You are comparing how it's easier to obtain a game than actual game play.

The nostalgia fags just like their games because it actually made them use their brain.

Nowadays, triple A games love to hold your dick for you.

I won't dismiss some developers making great content but c'mon.. new games nowadays tend to be mindless.

tubular

no saving was the worst, couldn't get too far into many games because the checkpoints would be half way since thats all the game could save

had to keep playing the same intro missions over and over

It was fucking shit I tell you that

Forgot about my Gameboy. Playing Tetris, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2:6 Golden Coins, Dr.Mario,TMNT:Fall of the Foot Clan, Link's Awakening and Kirby's Adventure that beat in a couple of hours.
I remember my friend had a Game Gear but it murdered the batteries and he tried to show me how to watch TV on it but the reception was horrible.

>actually owned pokemon green imported from japan

She's a rocket scientist who married a guy that looks just like her

Oh, didn't you hear? Video games being hard is a tool of the Zionist conspiracy to emasculate white males and make them lose self-esteem in their own race.

And you know what the funniest part is? The alt-right probably actually believes this.

I remember actually looking forward to games

Social media has ruined everything. Before companies and the general populace didnt have to listen to literal faggotry

lol if you werent banned repeatedly for trolling

I don't know how to even describe what a good time it was in terms that zoomers would understand. There was no day-one DLC, on-disc DLC, day-anything DLC, lootboxes, gacha, online DRM, "games as a service", censorship, age ratings, being banned from a game for saying a mean word, Resetera, culture wars in general, arrogant "journalists", all the worst things in the hobby were just completely missing, not even existing as concepts yet. It was such a glorious time.

nah

rnb and pop ruined it, eventually music became a commodity and no one played instruments anymore

Had to have social skills. Had to bathe. Had fun.

>marrying your clone

patching games fucking sucked
>patch comes out
>file is like 300mb which was like 3 gigs on 56k internet, spend entire day trying to download it and hope you didn't lose connection
>forced to update to play on servers

>Consoles
Parents bought you a console for christmas/birthday, usually got two games with it and some demos. You'd play the shit out of them every day after school and find a way to enjoy them even if they weren't great. Next game you'd get would be months later, usually in the form of something that caught your eye at a store or a gaming magazine. Multiplayer gaming boiled down to couch co-op (usually fighting games, beat-em-ups, racing games or sports games) when you had friends or family over. Up until the PS1 came out (which doubled as a CD player) consoles were all about games and not multimedia.

>PC
Most families had a single computer that everyone used, and if you had money sometimes you'd have one in your bedroom. Games were usually cheaper and bought exclusively in stores. There were a ton of PC games across all genres, but until the mid-'90s when people were getting online they were almost all single-player games with limited controller support. Arcade games were extremely popular with DOS and Macintosh systems and could be played with joysticks. Lots of licensed games from big companies were shipped with everything from cereal boxes to magazines, and there were quite a lot of homemade games and game mods spread across internet community boards that you could download.

wholesome

2010s is Minecraft.

The old days were free of much of the BS that plagues the industry today but I think people forget about shit like Nintendo being Disney evil and Sony killing commercial emulators and broken games being broken forever (which was still a thing until relatively recently) and peripherals and whatnot. Shit like memory cards didn't go away until the PS3 and XB360 and now we've just returned to that in the form of external HDs because consoles ship with shit memory relative to the badly optimized behemoths that are modern games, especially since discs seem to be formalities. IIRC Tekken 7 took like 60gb on my PS4 and I had the damn disc.

Basically things have always sucked but in the past the things that sucked weren't being advertised on the home menus of games that were released unfinished at full price.

She looked like she would grow up to be much cuter than she is, I feel bad for her.

2000s in general was 90s 2.0 in many ways.
The 2000s is probably more similar to the 90s than any other two consecutive decades.

>censorship, age ratings, culture wars in general
Are you just conveniently forgetting the establishment of the ESRB and congressional hearings on video games, controversy around games like Night Trap and Mortal Kombat, or censorship of games like Snatcher and Zombies Ate My Neighbors?

97' zoomer but I relate more with the late millennial, I used to take my GBA everywhere with me and sneak into my sisters room to play her ps2 while she was out until I got an original xbox, or just play flash games.
Take me back...

God that girl is like 70% legs.

Win 95 changed the entire gaming terrain

You know those old "game room" or whatever prizes that used to be popular in the 90s where they said they'd turn your room into an awesome cool radical room or whatever? How would those have actually worked? Do they send a bunch of guys to your house to redecorate your room for you?

>computer

>kids rode skateboards not drug addicts

That lasted into the early 2000's, every year of elementary school had at least that one kid who kept coming in with a cast from a skateboarding accident. Pic related was pretty common too.

Glass Boxes are 90s kino, prove me wrong.

Me and a friend used to share a keyboard and play bomberman and some other game where you play as wizards. It was top down, very simple looking game and I think you had a limited amount of spells but can pick up upgrades and shit as you travel around together across screens. We didn't get very far but it was our favourite.
Can anyone help remind me what the name of that game was? I'd like to beat it.

>my dad

that's what I did in the 90s...

it was great, golden age of gaming. Every year some new game was pushing the limits. Things that were previously impossible became possible. Gameplay innovation was constant and experimental. The normies hadn't fully shown up yet and the lowest common denominator was not the default target demographic.

In comparison the game industry is creatively bankrupt and standing on the shoulders of games on decades past without meaningful raising the bar for the next generation of games.

Man the 90's was THE time to make friends as a kid.

memory cards were nice. You didn't lose all your saves simply because your console or game crapped out on you. No one said it was perfect, but you better believe the games were better.

So the '90's culture' basically bled into the 2000s for the first few years yeah? Like up to 02/03?

Heart is firmly lodged in core/late millennial leaning towards late, but the DS library was lightning in a bottle that can never happen again.

Seeing 3D graphics rapidly improving was like seeing the face of God. Now a lot of that stuff doesn't hold up well and I have a far greater appreciation for the beautiful sprites and animation in 2D games from that time.

At this point I'm convinced it's not even about politics, it's just scene kiddies participating in the newest chanology and lying to themselves about it because being part of a mainstream incursion would defeat the point of being here. Any publicity is bad publicity for a place like Yea Forums and nu-/pol/ got fucking billboards.

Early Zoomer was the last good years

PC had some cool educational games, NES/SNES were king in vidya

then RTSs and Diablo and such blipped in my radar, and PC was my side platform

internet was very much shit, websites looked like this:
classic.battle.net/war3/
when they looked good, and like this most of the time:
google.com/search?q=geocities&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiXl9bA19rgAhWMHrkGHcpsD08Q_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=944
but we could still play some stuff on PC online

later on I got a N64 and fucking loved every minute of the 4 player mayhem at my grandma's on pratically every weekend, playing Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Smash Bros, Gauntlet Legends, Pokémon Stadium, and whatnot

also, loved my grandma's sandwiches and cold chocolate milk, even though she forced me to go to church every sunday morning, thanks to her I'm an atheist now

The late 90's culturally ended on 9/11, through 02/03 carried the torch for elements of it pretty far (pop-punk, music videos that took place in Winamp skins). The 2000's splits into pre-9/11, 02-03, 05-06, and 08+; 04 and 07 are both fuzzy boundaries and had their own weird thing going on.

Late millennial for me. PS3 wii were soulless Xbox 360 had after burner climax.

I don't think so. Baggy clothes were out by then, soup bowl cut was out, baja shirts way out, white sneakers were out, ripped jeans were gone.

>Hating 90s web design

We didn't game that much. That's why gaming wasn't shit back then. a couple of hours a day was more than enough then we went on to do other shit. You still had some autists who played longer and were inside all day. Those were the true "gamers" that make up 90% of the playerbase today. back then we called them addicts. today it's normal behavior

Zoomer don't remember, but old Xbox 360s had a failure rate of 30-40% and when they failed, all your data was gone forever since there were no cloud saves back then for almost any games.

>Rocket Power

I am endlessly fascinated by how big it was when it aired compared to how it fell off the face of the Earth immediately after. Wild Thornberries did that too, come to think of it.

The late 90s was the best but besides the boomer meme, being someone born in the early 80s sometimes makes me uncomfortable though.

Too old to be a Millennial but my shared culture seems off from so-called Gen X, like cellphone and the internet were already a thing in my late teens, but know an analog childhood or too young to listen Nirvana but too old for Linkin park.

What's my generation?

Attached: lain_00.png (400x300, 46K)

somebody gon get raped

Had a Gamecube which crqpped out on me in a mere year or two, didn't do anything to it, they just said launch era Gamecubes had shit harddrives which didn't last too long. Lucky you, nothing ever happened to your consoles. My Wii was also fried thanks to the WiiConnect24 which fucked it up.

Pretty amazing, if I'm being honest. Not quite as amazing as being a gamer in the late 80s, but 90s gaming was still magical.

People made video games because they loved the idea of the game, not to make money.

it kinda sucked
lived in rural VA so very few people who even had internet. Not a lot of people that owned newer than an SNES and fewer still that had anything besides football games. So no one to really share my hobby. Now its extra bad because games were more genuine back then people tried shit. Now everything is LCD watered down shit that's made for a safe sell and microtransactions. I wish I'd never played games prior to the ps2.

Most of us were kids in the '90s, so we have a fond nostalgia for the games and other things back then. I imagine those who were already adults and into video games likely preferred the arcades.

they also looked very much samey, but even shittier design
I have a soft spot for it, but it's still shit. Kinda like DBZ and Saint Seiya.

Attached: 436.jpg (400x251, 35K)

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of dividing culture in such a way. I think it's too reductionistic. That being said, I feel like 90s elements persisted throughout most of the 2000s. Both decades had a sort of "retro" atmosphere, both decades were more suburban-centered as opposed to this decade's urban feel, and both decades had a kind of nihilistic feel to them.

Gamecubes didn't have hard drives...

A bit related but how do I get into shmups released in the 90s like Dodonpachi? They look very interesting

>tfw you were on your nerdy teens when fucking 2004 was happening

Minecraft. Fortnite.

Early 90s was cool, with Sega Genesis and Snes and Lucasgames adventures.
Mid 90s was cool, with PSX and N64 and stuff like Doom and Duke3D.
Late 90s was cool, with Half-Life and Unreal and Fallout and stuff.

>teens didn't do drugs in the 90s

Which is why he is thankful they had memory cards. Did you even read his post?

>At this point I'm convinced it's not even about politics, it's just scene kiddies participating in the newest chanology

I get the same feeling, especially with how all the political stuff on Yea Forums tends to revolve around "EPIC MEME" shit.

2008 and 2009 were kino. And they came right before this shitty decade.
Someone in another thread described it as "the last party before death". I'm not sure I'm 110% on board with that analogy, but I thought it was interesting.

The only time that I played on LANs was in 2010, when my classmates and I played LAN games on the college computers

yeah things have been absolute shit for 9 straight years and it's only getting worse.

the lost generation

There is a specific sub-generation of people born right in the early 80s according to some sociologists

This is because people born slightly earlier had analog childhoods, and people born slightly later had digital childhoods. We are right in the zone where we experienced both during our developmental years, which is kind of special if you ask me. People younger than their 30s don't have any perspective on the fact that the world basically flipped on its head in the past 20 years and everything is different

I remember the early 2010's being alright, but I dislike all the post-2014 political fighting that's been going on with the Internet.

Exactly, that's why so many of the word filters in recent years have just been popular things from normie social media that people spam infinitely. You can't have a board balloon to Yea Forums's size practically overnight without a significant drop in quality.

who here still living in the 90s?

>99% of games played are 90s or early 2000s
>Haven't watched a recent Hollywood movie for years
>Leave TV on with old nickelodeon or CN cartoons

What's weird is that I remember Yea Forums around 2012 getting mad about Reddit using Yea Forums's meme stuff, but these days most stuff on Yea Forums is from other sites like Reddit or Twitter.

2017 was the best year in gaming in a very long time.

I cannot even fathom how you could possibly think this.

>for the 90s it was 95,96,97

That's like your opinion dude, for me 91-95 were the most fun.

>but these days most stuff on Yea Forums is from other sites like Reddit or Twitter
Such as?

I'm pretty sure all those buzzwords like yikes, oof, etc are from Twitter. There's also the massive amount of Twitter screenshot threads on Yea Forums these days.

gee, i wonder why.

This. And things like going out like this user said Arcade places were a thing, hell, arcade machines were in any place in some corner with playing on them. Going to the mall or crowded places were not problem like today were people are usually angry about something, or always in a hurry, or some retard wants to hurt people off.
I also miss videogame magazines. Reading articles of someone that loved videogames and actually explored the game the most they could was great. If they missed some important detail or a secret they would write another article about that an issue later

The first thing that occured me were those small firecrackers that were often used in the 90s as play thing. That thing eventually started to be banned through time

>parents never got me a console
>family pc was pretty crap, non-standard hardware so most games required some hacking to get working
>tons of shovelware, didnt have many other pc-only friends at school to talk about games with
the 90s sucked for me
now i can emulate almost any game from my childhood, including the ones i could never get sound on

It was pretty comfy.

That political animosity has always been there, but in the 90s and 00s people browsed sites/newsgroups/forums based on interests. They were generally small communities compared to reddit or youtube or facebook today. It made sense to be civil, because if you went around trolling or flaming people nobody would take you serious on other topics. Now that almost everything is consolidated onto large sites, you might as well be anonymous because you're one user among thousands.

>used to be able to unlock hidden costumes or characters by beating the game or completing certain challenges
>now all costumes and characters are hidden behind paid DLC, lootboxes, and/or excessive grind
I want to go back

this picture is so disgusting and not at all relatable. this doesnt look comfy at all & it smells bad.

>No social media

That alone made it great. I think if you got rid of social media everything would drastically improve. I honestly think (hope) it will happen de-facto if not de jure. People are starting to realize social media isn't fun, it's tiresome and exhausting and they'll move to smaller circles and networks of friends again.

Everything was much slower back then. Things were given them to sit-down, people could think and discuss them, talk about them. Now it's from one thing to another in five minutes from the latest outrage to the next, we aren't build for this. It's overwhelming.

So the Internet got too big for it's own good?

I miss the crazy hairstyles of the 90s

>And a blue corvette

Yes, you stupid fucking teenager.

It got too consolidated. More people are using the internet, but using fewer sites. It's all in the numbers. For a hundred years, there’s been a conspiracy of plutocrats against ordinary people.

I'm 26.

the only real difference was the internet. Back then we had to use Game Pro and Nintendo Power (and eventually Brady Games Guides) to get past hard spots in games. If it wasn't in that issue, you had to wait until it was or check other magazines. The internet has sort of destroyed gaming in that respect. People don't even TRY to figure shit out for themselves. They just whip out their phones at the slightest speed bump then complain about the game being too short or too easy.

I'm seriously considering going to the stylish barber around the corner from me and getting my hair cut and styled into a pompadour. I have the sideburns for it.

Attached: 1534056661631.png (210x211, 45K)

late X & early&core milenial imo. Early zoomer is another world.

Then you should know this shit already.

It was comfy. Consoles were heavy. Games were heavy. The latest cutting edge game on Microsoft PC that your uncle bought came with a bad ass gigantic joystick. You could stop and trade cards, play with legos, or play foursquare with the neighborhood kids when you got stuck on a hard part in a game.
Licensed carrying cases were rugged as fuck and were solid dark colors.
Going to the arcade felt like something adult because all of the older kids competing against each other in games that were a new level of violence.

And the best part was knowing that games were only going to get better and better.

>get so hooked with pent up rage from having to wait until 12y with nothing but shit games that I start playing PS1 at night every night until 4am and fail my first year of high school for not studying ever at all (and I had almost barely made it by cramming but teachers said it was unforgivable)
>have to study two years in one at a private school to catch up to my third year.

It's the gayest hair imaginable. You'd look less gay with a dick in your mouth. At least go with a young hitler style.

>For a hundred years, there’s been a conspiracy of plutocrats against ordinary people.

That's terror.

I actually think YouTube is probably the best thing to point to if you want to demonstrate this change. Youtube started in 2005 and from then until about 2012, it wasn't really social media. It was more just a video sharing website. People were anonymous, and the presence of a working dislike button and spam buttons made the comments section (which was always shit, lol) less of a circlejerk.

Fast-forward to 2013. Social media giants such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are blowing up. Hundreds of millions, approaching billions, of normies are discovering the Internet and shitting it up. Youtube, realizing the business potential this creates, decides to shift into a more social media-style website (Google Plus certainly didn't ameliorate this change). I genuinely feel YouTube is one of the best examples of the cultural shift that happened in this decade.

>fire was cool
this guy gets it. I bet zoomers don't even play with fire

That's number 2.

Imagine how much you like your favorite games of all time. And then imagine if every 2 years there were new ones that were objectively twice as good if not better than those, and this went on for 15-20 years.
Gaming has been the same now for 10 years.

It's Europe, we have 5 years, age 13 to 18-19. And yes, it's dramatically harder than what you have in the USA.

Sega city was pretty great. I also had a really fucking sweet CD of some 3D Tyrannosaurus interactive pet game, the name escapes me. Oh and you can't forget about Lucas Arts just dominating the scene with hit after hit. I didn't get a gameboy until pokemon yellow came out later on, but we had a Sega Game Gear that was mind blowing at the time. I didn't really play it much. Crown jewel was Golden Eye split screen. God, those were the days. Oh fuck and King of the Monsters was the shit too. Dude, there were too many great titles to list, so that says it all.

Attached: lucas-arts-main.jpg (825x464, 344K)

Dont' forget Google tried to make it that if you used something other than your RL name you could get banned for it. On youtube because google account = youtube.

>Remember back around 2008 or 2009, only a small amount of people were making money from YouTube
>Now everyone on YouTube is panicking about "ad-pocalypse" and "demonitization"

>that materials teacher that made miniature half pipes and shit for kids

Gaming as well as many other things died in 2007. Rather, it suffered the fatal blow in 2007 and bled to death until 2012ish.

>dr. mangle
Is that a play on Mengele? Kind of a dark reference for what I assume is a kid's game.

I had video games in my own house such as sonic spinball, pokemon yellow, gunstar heroes, pac man clone where the ghost are replaced with spiders. I didn't get a nintendo 64 until march 30 2000. I was born in 1991. My other gaming experiences were over friends houses and arcades.

Attached: take my hand.jpg (128x128, 6K)

I remember the 2013 shitstorm where they tried to force Google+ on everyone. Weird to think that was 6 years ago already.

Can't fucking compare to this horrible decade man. Fucking kids are exposed to trap edgelord doing drugs on youtube and you can see addicts at a very early age.

You've never heard of eBay?

A lot more awe inspiring and comfy. Something we'll probably never experience again except for maybe in VR

cheap imitation of something truly great just like everything modern

I don't think I remember the 90's at all, even though I was born in 1992.

2005 felt kinda disappointing compared to 2004 at the time but was still pretty strong in retrospect. 2006 was on another fucking level for entertainment and stupid nerd shit (Haruhi alone was a goddamn megaton if you were very online).

To the extent that culture divides along years, the most "pure" 2000's was stuff that was grimy but in a more mundane-feeling way (think mid-30's gruff guy vs the 90's angsty teenager). At the time Nickelback and music/aesthetics in that mold felt like it was a "post-decade" era without defining markers like 80's neon, but after the fact video's like link related scream 2005 as hard as hair metal screams late 80's. youtube.com/watch?v=RiSfTyrvJlg

>It's Europe, we have 5 years, age 13 to 18-19. And yes, it's dramatically harder than what you have in the USA.

No, it's not. I went to a magnet school with limited entrance and I can assure my curriculum was harder. Western European countries do not have harder basic curricula than America- Scountries like ukraine and Russia do.

>hurr amerikanz r dumb

the 90s were pretty much a fucking rad decade for gaming

it wasnt just video games, everything was better in the 90s. the commies really went into overdrive subverting and demoralizing western nations since 9/11.

Attached: 1535527291483.png (788x699, 21K)

It was a paradise compared to the shit that goes on today. Computers, software, and the internet were cool and interesting, games differentiated themselves more. No mentally ill trannies and women invading everything.

Attached: 1533544572467.png (500x644, 476K)

Like most others said, it was pretty comfy.
I miss renting DK64 and Space Station Silicon Valley from Blockbuster with my best friends and making microwaveable shit at night. I despise how cynical society's become here since 9/11 happened and I can't do anything about it.

Attached: image.png (760x570, 293K)

Oh hey Mr. McCarthy. Had no idea you could time travel. Hey, uh, can you do me a favor? Can you look up what communism is, because you seem to have no idea what it actually is and I'm sick of people labeling everyone they don't like "commies".

Well, lets see. Our games came mostly on cartridges unless you were playing PC games. Disc based games came a bit later. DLC didn't exist as systems weren't really connected to the internet in any big way. You either had expansion packs (which were like a full new game) or a sequel.

It was pretty great, honestly.

The Mayans were right, user. My dad died mid-2013 and honestly it really feels like that's the early bound for our current hellscape.

Facebook is the elephant in the room, but pound-for-pound Twitter probably did the most damage because it's right on the line between internet forum pathology and real-world relevance. Imagine cable news in the early 2000's reporting on Something Awful threads, that's what it feels like now.

>Unscrewing the antenna connectors on the downstairs TV to use the Coaxil adapter!
>Using rubbing alcohol and Q-tips to clean cartridges because the NES was so sensitive!
>Getting so bored with the bad SNES game you got stuck with that you mess with the eject button on the system to see how high you can launch it.
>Only playing sonic on the Genesis because your Dog chewed up the controller wire and you can only play games compatible with your brothers old Single button atari joystick that happens to plug into the Genesis
>Getting a TV with proper composite input and realizing this whole time you've been listening to only HALF of the audio on your playstation games because your old set up only had white and yellow inputs
>Proping up your Playstation on it's side with a flip flop becuase the laser on this 4 year old system is wearing out and this is the only way to play legend of dragoon!!!

He's 100% correct, though.

The 90s pretty much just equates to the following if you were a kid back then:
>playing old video games
>playing old board games
>watching old movies
>a lot more magical Christmases with better Christmas specials on TV
>doing retarded shit as a kid
>going to stores that no longer exists
>watching All That and Rugrats
>remembering the theme song lyrics to Carmen Sandiego, Reading Rainbow, Arthur, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, etc.
>trying to secretly watch softcore porn on HBO and Cinemax
>doing the above but on some channel you don't remember and with terrible picture quality

>I'm sick of people labeling everyone they don't like "Nazis" or "fascists".
Here's your (you).

There hasn't been a single good thing that happened this whole decade aside from Trump being elected. 2012 definitely seemed like a last hurrah.

Joke post or you just turned 18? Yes, games had cheat codes in the game you found listed in magazines, and you could either trigger then with a pad or a keyboard
>bangbangbangbangbang
Ad infinitum to keep the cars blowing up in the entire town
If you wanted more advanced cheats you had to buy action replay or gameshark, actual hardware cartridges to slide in the back of the console to trigger them. Some games didn't have generic codes, all games had either AR or GS codes.

i remember going over to this kids house down the street to play age of empires 2 back when it first came out and he said his parents didnt let him build temples in the first game because they went against his religion

Spongebob and Rocko are the actual best Nicktoons.

And 80s kids say the decline happened in the 90s with shit music and shitty clothes

nobody on Yea Forums could tell you because they're all underage

That's what I'm getting at, yes.
It's stupid when people call Jordan Peterson a Nazi, and it's equally stupid when people say Obama is a communist.

I'm not playing enlightened centrist here either. I just think people should know what they're calling other people.

I live in the UK, so I think things were a bit different for me. I do remember that sometime when I was a kid, I would watch stuff like Fresh Prince and Simpsons repeats in the evenings, but I don't remember if that was the 90's or early 2000's.

I was born in 89. Even though I enjoyed the 90s I could believe that they were already the beginning of the end. I think grunge fucked a lot of things up culturally even though the most popular of those acts are good. Other aspects of the 90s seemed like last ditch efforts to try to preserve what was good, but consumerism and multiculturalism were starting to get pretty out of control.

I've been fond of every generation from the 80's up until 2010. This last generation has been absolute shit.

>When the Venona project pretty much demonstrated McCarthy was right, he just went about it in a destructive counterproductive way

It's actually pretty terrifying how much the Soviets had spies in the 40s-50s. Like it's a fucking marvel we didn't actually fall to some communist revolution because they had spies everywhere and in senior positions. They had straight up a senior ministers in the French government and intelligence spying for them, major intelligence officials in the British government and then no end of middling spies in the US.

That was the 90s, Nigel.

>tfw people born in 2000 or 2001 are now allowed here

>wearing sport shoes inside the house

Is this still a thing in America? Why do you people do this?

>those arcade machines outside of stores
You could be playing and someone could easily walk up and challenge you

I know those shows originally came out in the 90's, but the thing is I remember watching a lot of re-runs, so I can't remember when those were exactly.

i watched my porn on streaming winamp in the early 2000s
also on my tv through my 56k dreamcast modem when my parents were out

I was born in 92 so I was a small child through most of the 90's, first picked up a controller when I was like 3 playing a link to the past
my cousin was a year older than me and had a sega and a PS1, while I had the snes and n64

I mostly remember that when I was at his house, he was player 1 because it was his house
and at my house, he was also player 1 because he was the guest

fucker.

Decline stared in the 60s.
After the shit decade of the 70s the 80s brought it back a little but the 90s started all the modern trends that have led us to 2019

it fucking sucked
anything pre broadband internet sucked
talk off your fucking nostalgia glasses
early-mid 00's were gaming kino though even if otherwise its a cultural blackhole

Porn addiction.

And I'm telling you Fresh Prince reruns didn't exist in 2000, unless you get Nick at Nite in the UK.

You forgot finding boxes of abandoned Playboy magazines in woods.

>The Mayans were right, user.

It feels weird that the "End of the world" thing was 7 years ago already. I remember how Yea Forums had a sticky thread about it, and Majora's Mask music playing.

Spain still has reruns of the Fresh Prince
just sayin

These people were kids in the 90s. If you were less than 15 watching cartoons and playing on consoles it probably was the best. If you were an adult that had to deal with the shit music, clothes and movies the only saving grace was TV.

>edgy or gross out shit in games, cartoons and advertising
>everyone trying to make mascots with attitude
>motherfucking LAN parties
>motherfucking arcades
>slow shitty internet but the endless wonder of the internet made up for it
I really get nostalgic for arcades. I grew up just five minutes away from a roller rink and arcade. It started my love of fighting games. Every weekend I'd scoot my happy ass up there with quarters and get down on Street Fighter or SNK games. I even started 'coaching' some kids my age that wanted to get better at SF. Good times.

Attached: Efswc7O.gif (500x391, 360K)

Nigga wut? Broadband fucked gaming hard. Pre internet gaming was awesome, games actually had some quality because you couldn't patch shit.

>this era is the best because it sorta has some of the remnants of the older better eras
good reasoning

I think it was BBC2 that I watched those shows on. I also remember watching Robot Wars around the same time.

>Príncipe Fresco de Bel Air

The US 'communist revolution' already happened, but not in the way you think it did.

nah, it's El Principe de Bel Air

Then, pray tell, how the FUCK did it happen? Because I don't see any redistribution of wealth, I don't see the means of production being owned by the proletariat, and I most certainly do not see any trace of equality in this shitty country.
So tell me, how is America communist?
No one's arguing that communism isn't bad, but at least know what you're fucking talking about before you just throw labels around.

>at best friend's house with other kids, playing N64
>best friend tells us he found his dad's nudie stash and hid some of the magazines in the woods nearby
>we all go out there and he shows us the magazines
>one friend, a super sheltered, religious type basically turns pale and starts freaking out, thinking somehow his parents will find out and he's going to hell

Attached: 1300081409712.jpg (337x276, 22K)

First of all, you should lose the delusion that communism is an economic ideology. It is very much synonymous with Bolshevism, which was literally just jewish supremacy on a national scale.

>Because I don't see any redistribution of wealth
>What is welfare
>What is bloated income tax

>No online videos to tell you how to beat everything, you had to figure that shit out on your own, or if you were a richcuck, buy a walk through.
>No pre ordering, no DLC, no monetization, no continued support. If you liked it? Pray for a sequel.
>No press X to win combat, even the movie games (Dragons Lair) were challenging. Maybe not ball breaking, but challenging.
>VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE I TELL YA JUST LOOK AT THE MORTAL KOMBATS
>No one really gave a fuck about politics, that was for old people.
>Games were games, not just products that corporate suits who have never touched a game before got to call the shots on
>Games journalism was okay and there was en entire video game channel comitted to running Ninja Warrior all day

It was a simpler time. A time when Activsion and Casuals were the only enemy

Attached: 1369415752720.jpg (500x1453, 93K)

Game announced in the 90s:
>IM SUPER EXCITED TO PLAY IT HOLY SHIT

Game announced now:
>I wonder how hard its going to be monetized....

Attached: 1364655806368.jpg (1200x1760, 179K)

How stupid are you? Welfare isn't redistribution of wealth, it's simply giving a leg up to poor people. That's more socialism than outright communism. You think food stamps can buy you the same types of food as paper cash? The system is getting better, but it's still far from perfect. And taxes are part and parcel of living in human civilization. Benjamin Franklin once said, "Only two things in life are certain: death and taxes."
This was in the 18th century, mind you.

>bolshevism is Jewish supremacy
...are you retarded?
Sure a lot of communists were Jewish, but to say that bolshevism is Jewish supremacy is absurd. Stalin was probably the most infamous communist of all time, and would you care to read about what he did to the jews in his government?
When Trotsky was icepicked to death, do you know whose orders it was under?

The Bolsheviks were 90% jewish, and they made it very clear through their rhetoric that what they were doing was racially charged. The Holodomor was the direct result of Bolshevism, and you probably don't even know what that is.

It's all about the cultural marxism, which means whatever you say doesn't matter and is just Jewish propaganda.

>The "future" in that pic is now 5 years in the past

youtube.com/watch?v=P9EhvDAMjWc

Of course I know what the Holodomor was.
As horrible as it was, it wasn't based on race. It was because Stalin was a dictator, and the Ukrainians opposed him.
There's even a debate about whether the Holodomor should be considered a genocide, since it was about killing people for their ideology, rather than for their race/genes.

90s computer desks were so comfy

>even if otherwise its a cultural blackhole

The early 2000's min-maxed so they were great for shit you cared about as a kid but were objectively pretty bad because 9/11, the stock market crash, and Iraq. Jury's out on how it was for film and TV in general.

Genocide is mass killing, period. It doesn't matter what their ideology was.

Nostalgia does a big trick, but i have some fond memories:

a friend of Dad's had a daughter who had MDK on her computer. I still remember how the graphics looked like real stuff back in the day.
It was amazing. Even just the Aestethic of that game was something else.

I clearly remember playing monkey island 2 with a friend and being incapable of solving the part where you need to resurrect le chuck's chef.

Hell. Good times. Every game was a discover.

Also i remember the Pokemon boom. In like a week everybody had the game, then the trading cards.

First game that made some real impression was MGS when i was 11. Game really had something to say.

>spending hours at your dad's house trying to get 20 KO's in cruel melee to unlock characters that didn't actually exist

Attached: 1518337721558.jpg (592x589, 37K)

What are these windows called?
I use to have them as a kid

>Jury's out on how it was for film and TV in general.
What, the jury in your own low IQ mind? TV and film fell to communism far before video games, you teenage fuck.

That's mass murder. Genocide refers to killing with the intent of eliminating a race or ethnicity, hence the "geno" prefix. That's why events like the Holocaust, Armenian Genocide, Rwandan Genocide, and even the East Timor genocide are considered genocides (because they were intended to wipe people out due to their race/ethnicity), while historians call the Holodomor's status as a genocide into question (because it was about killing people who disagreed with him).

The worst was social media. Shit ruined everything.

MHz

Jumpers
FM vs Wavetable
Mac vs PC
CRT vs Plasma
Channel 3 vs 4

Too fat to bend over and undo the laces and change into a pair of comfy slippers

The Holodomor overwhelmingly killed white Christians. I don't understand how you think this isn't a genocide. You can take the position that it was a 'mistake', but there is loads of historical evidence to the contrary.

Y-yeah. Must be great having parents haha

Attached: 1540075292061.jpg (561x754, 44K)

It wasn't a mistake! Stalin was a psychopath an murdered them deliberately, holy shit don't put words in my mouth. But there race and religion wasn't why he did it. It was because they disagreed with his rule, and he wanted to crush his opposition with an iron fist.

Let me repeat myself.
He didn't kill them because they were white or Christian.
He killed them because they opposed him.

Capiche?

Games were discriminated against for being on the computer so much. Funny, how normies now are 24/7 on their social media and it is totally okay.

And Lenin wasn't even really Jewish. His maternal grandfather was a Jew who later converted to Christianity.

But neither Rykov nor Molotov were Jewish.

My god the hairstyles in the 80s were so ugly

'94 here, the CRT TV we had was on its last legs when my parents bought a flatscreen LCD TV in 2007. Trashed that shit the next day and a week later I ended up buying another one at a thrift store because my Genesis and PS2 looked horrible on the new TV.

No, I'm not so stupid to think that.
I know Judaism is also an ethnicity, in fact I would know that better than you. But calling Lenin a Jew when his maternal grandfather was Jewish isn't really accurate. Judaism is matrilineal, and even without the religious aspect, that still makes Lenin only a quarter Jewish.

Going to friends to play on his n64 and then biking to another friends to play ps1, then down the street for the lan parties, lots of moving around

>in fact I would know that better than you
So I'm talking to a jew. I'm getting really sick of your pilpul here, buddy.

Flatscreens didn't really get affordable for most people until the late 2000's; my family got a 42" HDTV at the very end of 2008 and it was around $1000. TV prices have been falling so fast it's hard to remember that Nintendo announced no HD support for the Wii and most people thought "lol who cares, only rich fucks have those."

I remember not wanting to play new games sometimes on my 360 because they looked like shit on the CRT. I had mostly moved to PC gaming as well after GTA III and FarCry.
I'll never forget the sound and feeling of turning on the CRT though. The pitch of the sound and static on my fingers.

If you have to resort to ad hominems (especially when they aren't even bad), you've lost the argument. I argued using facts, you couldn't counter them. Thanks for playing.

Marx was a jew, and their ideology was based on his works.

>flatscreens didn't get affordable
I was moving some stuff for my parents and found an old receipt from when my brother and I bought a flatscreen for my parents. Something like 30 inches maybe 35, $750 dollarydoos.

It ain't fair. I don't want social media. I don't want smartphones. I don't want streaming. I don't want Discord, or Reddit, or any other site that's trying to monopolize and centralize the Internet. All I want is to call random strangers on the Internet faggots and have fun doing it. Everything on the Internet these days is so instant; news, jokes, memes, games, shows, anime are all shoved in your face by ten million people and quickly become old and tiresome. I want to experience the Internet as a bunch of decentralized groups of hobbyists that had their own unique culture. Hell, shitposting on some Transformers or Pokemon forum when I was ten was more fun than going on Reddit and seeing something I already saw here a day ago. I want to be able to have an interest in a niche series or game without social media trying to push it to everyone else. I hope things change soon.

Can confirm this was exactly like my sister's room during the same period. Heck, I still have my dad's old computer hooked up, ready to go.

I sold all my old consoles when I graduated high school. Came back for winter break and sold the CRT on craigslist for a lot more than what I bought it for. Now I just have a 65" 4K TV for my PS4 Pro and a 21" VGA trinitron for emulators and 100fps in PC games that support it.

You were probably either not born until after 1999 or a fucking downie.

Indeed he was. Engels wasn't, though.
And if you actually read the Communist Manifesto, you'd find that there isn't really anything offensive in there. I disagree with it, and I don't support communism at all, but Marx doesn't say anything encouraging the crimes that would later happen under communism.
My theory for why a lot of communists were Jewish is simply that it's a revolutionary idea that theoretically(!) espouses equality. People who are minorities, especially persecuted minorities, tend to latch onto ideas that go against the status quo, and even more so when the ideology is based on "equality" like communism was (on paper).
A lot of modern day communists are also gay. I think it's a similar story there.

Simpler times back then. Was born in 1990. First console was a NES that was a hand me down from a cousin. Didn't really go to arcades as much as a kid and I regret it. I remember my aunt giving me my first Game Boy Color. used to take that bad boy everywhere I went. Also remember being made fun and called a "Game freak" by the "cool kids" when I used to play it. Gaming got a lot better when the Dreamcast/PS2 came around. Truly good times.

I remember playing my PS2 all the fucking time during Middle/High School. Gaming now in my opinion isn't what it used to be. A lot of carbon copies. No originality. I barely play my PS4.

I still have my second 360 as the first one got the red ring and some minor smoking. Fuck, I wish I had kept my old NES, SNES, 64 and PS1. I guess my brother and I thought that the future could only bring newer and better things, all the time.

Where can I get that capcom hat

It's been around 6 years since then and I can't say I miss them as they're more or less perfectly emulated.

It's because the jews are a genocidal people, and they started with the Ukraine, and then moved on to the US. I'm sick of you using pilpul to obfuscate this fact. You're a jew, and you will be chased out of the US just like you have been 350 times before. Only this time, you will have nowhere else to go. I guess you can take solace in your Sampson Option.

Born in 1983. The best part was having friends over for LAN parties. Everyone would lug their giant desktops over to one house and we'd stay up all night drinking mountain dew and eating cooler ranch doritos while we played Half Life or Starcraft or whatever else we got into. Also going to the grocery store with parents was always a treat because you could read the video game magazines while they shopped. Truly a magical time.

Imagine living in a country where people care about what other people wear in their house.

Yeah, I got the emulators, but for some games they don't exactly work perfectly. I think the biggest problem that I don't like to admit is that what I miss is the experience of playing all those games and moments at the time. Nostalgia is a terrible drug.

I'm american, and I can't imagine wearing my shoes indoors except in very rare circumstances. It's just fucking dirty, man.

>it's actually three minecrafts and not one
pfffffffffffffff

Not him but I can remember playing at least 500 hours minimum since I played 1 hour a day before I was forced to go outside and during high school I played 1 hour during lunch since I ran home and played it

Anybody answering anything but, "The shit" wasn't there.

Still arguing with feelings, eh? Whatever. I gave the facts, you reacted emotionally. And for the record, I don't know or care about the Talmud. Your obsession with "pilpul" makes me question your emotional investment in Judaism.
Also, nice Internet Tough Guy statement there. "Chased out of the US". Pffft. Grow up.
Last but not least, stop getting your news from The Daily Stormer and actually learn about other people rather than just listening to what people with an obvious agenda tell you. I'm trying to be nice here because I can tell you're not right in the head, but you make it really difficult when you call whole ethnicities genocidal.

oh my god. when I was a kid I dreamed of meeting a girl like this

I said nothing about feelings. You're projecting. The jews will simply not exist in the coming years. You have done your genocidal rhetoric enough, and you will be wiped out. I have no emotion in saying this.
>you're not right in the head
You are literally doing Soviet-era mental illness bullshit, you hypocritical kike.

>THEY'RE TURNING 20 IN 2020 AND 2021

to be fair a 1080p samsung 2010 TV (800-1000) has better picture than a 2017-18 insignia or something (200-300), now they dont sell 1080p;s anymore though

>How stupid are you?
Followed by
>Welfare isn't redistribution of wealth

>name-brand better than store brand
You don't say...

myst sucked ass then and it sucks ass now. if you boomers are honestly harping over THAT of all things, you arent doing classic PC gaming any favors

>open battlenet not even once

You say you're saying it with no emotion, and yet you advocate genocide (and you call ME a hypocrite), and call me a kike. This is why I'm saying you're mentally ill. Because to have THIS much vitriol towards a whole race of people who haven't done anything to you, even once confronted with the facts, you have to have something wrong with you. And calling it Soviet-era mental illness bullshit? How paranoid are you? Once again, grow up.

My 50" 1080p from 2013 (about $500) at the time had a fuse or capacitor pop so I replaced it with a 55" 4K Costco TV, mostly I'm just mad as fuck that everything on the market is a smart TV and I can't use my PS2 and Wii component cables anymore.

Best selling screensaver of the 90s

Attached: afterdark.jpg (280x280, 27K)

it is kind of impressive how they got the water to look. I DARE you to try to find some better looking water in a PS1 game

Look up 'sluggish schizophrenia', you stupid faggot. Tell me that your assertion that I'm mentally ill has nothing to do with that Soviet tactic.

Her name is Clarissa

Smart TVs are an absolute scam and I'd unironically take a 25" CRT from the 90s over a literal telescreen. My Samsung LCD TV from 2007 still works perfectly and I expect it to stay that way for another decade.

Damn, I had so many day dreams about her when I was young. Now I don't think about women at all.

I swear everyone had that same printer.

you never wanked to britney spears Lucky cameltoe?
Well yeah, but I'm saying they always keep coming out with something to attempt to keep the price the same, you couldn't get the same quality tv that was 1k in 2010 for that much cheaper until very recently. Now some 400 dollar 4khdr tv's are pretty fucking nice and only really clearly beaten by OLED. Even some vizio and tcl's will do 120hz(1080p) source from a pc

>putting your dirty fucking shoes on the mouse mat that's so bloody hard to keep clean and even slightly large dust particle will make the mouse jump
My rage cannot be contained.

All electronics being locked-down, irreparable surveillance machines that go out of their way to work less well than "dumb" shit from decades ago is turning me into a communist Hank Hill.

Explain it all user.

dude, back in the day when i saw those pages and dream about playing any of those awesome modern games, because we were poor and only got nintendo, but i was happy, there was hope that someday i would play that fancy games, graphics seemed to be the greatest ever.

Making due with not-quite-porn when you're discovering masturbation is a time-honored tradition, user. Mountains of porn dedicated to your specific fetish is nothing compared to finding that video of a girl webcam stripping when her mom walks in when you're 11.

>No mentally ill trannies and women
LEL, this is how i know you were never there for the early days of the net.

Everything seems cool when you're an innocent child with no responsibilities. Get out of the house and make something of your life because it's never coming back.

It's all so tiresome

they stayed hidden in their holes usually

rad but ronery.
no female would touch your dick if they knew you played video games.

I don't see the reason to do so. My hopes and aspirations have long since outpaced reality. Nothing in this world can give me happiness. Dwelling in the past comes close enough.

>no female would touch your dick
Hasn't changed for me

keep getting depressed because eventually the bottom will fall out and you'll become optimistic again.

Trust me, it happened to me and now every day I live in fear of my freedom.

I dunno i was fucking poor

Early 2000s is the pinnacle of bad fashion even for casual wears. The 90s wasn’t that bad.

you ar elike a bab y watch this

▲ ▲

we unironically watched each other play Starcraft customs while sitting next to each other

Damm i love me some high thigh stockings

That seems so weird to consider. I thought I was there but I guess I really haven't made any progress.
The only thing that seemed to pull me out of the slump is knowing that at least I had the prerogative to blow my brains out at any time, like a quick escape route. So no matter how terrible things got the void was always close at hand.

in your case it's not because of video games

>Go to Blockbuster
>rent video game for a ridiculous amount of money
>get home
>game doesn't fucking work

Every. Single. Fucking. Time.

depressed folk need to understand that motivation is a lie
discipline is the truth; struggle and pain through learning a new task before you learn to like it

Red pill

Maybe, but Riven was kino.
