My friend told me the Gameboy version of the DKC series is actually leagues better then the SNES series

Is this true I asked /vr/ and they told me we only discuss JRPG's here

i do when i play on my phone
recently beat super metroid in 1:27

>Cheating
>Still that slow
Maybe you should find a different passtime.

If I'm playing old games, it's for nostalgia, not any sense of accomplishment. I already got that ages ago, I don't mind using states today just to speed things up

Same here, though I generally will only use them on games I've beat legitimately at least once. That said, some games I just don't care enough to beat legitimately.

If I've never played it before there is no sense of satisfaction in using save states. But if the game is so innately unsatisfying by being hard and unfun then I guess I'll use em

Some games I just fundamentally disagree with in design, like games that make you start all the way at the beginning when you fail a couple times. Back then space was so limited that the only way a game could be long enough was to make it that way but these days I don't have the energy to play a 20 minute game stretched out over 20 hours, so I might save state at the start of each logical place like a level beginning

no they're retarded

Yeah that's a good point. You gotta think that if a lot of those old NES games were made today they'd have savepoints, if anything just to make the game more accessible.

You're only allowed to save state at points where you'd be returned to after a game over. And no, save stating at the beginning of the next level is still cheating if a game over would have brought you further back than that.

I don't care

let me john by saying i wasnt using a controller, just the awful on screen controls in portrait mode

I used them on Plok!

I use them heavily. Getting sent to the shadow realm for 30 min at a time might have been ok when I was a kid with tons of time on my hands. Today it's just a waste of time. I'll conquer whatever bullshit you throw at me but I don't have ages to go through the same trials over and over again if it's just one part that's fucking me.

I used to but I really regret it now, might as well not even play the game if you're just going to reload the second something doesn't go your way. Now I only use them in place of regular save points.

I sure do. I already beat the games when they came out, what do I have to prove to myself now?

Only when I have to urgently stop playing and savepoints are too far away.

>might have been ok when I was a kid with tons of time on my hands. Today it's just a waste of time
Jobs were a mistake. Ruined videogames.

Only on the world map/level select, since its faster than actually loading a save

You're still a cheater for abusing it. You didn't actually beat the game if you misuse save stating. Pussy ass biiitch.

I do. I am not going to fuck with triple triad otherwise

100% true. Ever since working more than full-time, I've had to prioritise what games I play and even try to limit how much I play them. Limiting play time doesn't sound unusual, but in my case it's something like, "okay, I've got every achievement in The Witcher 3, but I don't have time to explore every location on the map. Time to start Yakuza 0". I stopped playing multiplayer games with the exception of Siege because those weekly rewards are fucking addicting, and I still want some skins. RIP Dota, and I'm not about to get caught up in the dozens of hours my friends are dumping on Apex.

Oh well.

I only use the saves the game provides me. If I think it's being too hard or the design is bad I drop the game I don't use savestates.

when i was a kid i was afraid of this game over screen, i don’t know why

I would never be able to get all the achievements in a game. With work, it would take at least a month of just playing one game to get it all. I'll want to try other games before that. Then I play a new game for a week, when I can, finally go back to that one I took a break from and just can't pick it back up in the same place. Start from the beginning and quit again to play others.
Can't devote the time to one game.

Only for time saves that otherwise have to effect on gameplay. For example, instead of getting the game over screen, going back to the start menu, and loading a save file, I can just load a save state and save some time.

It's probably easier for me because I got used to playing one game for so long when I got addicted to Dota. Ended up banking 4000 hours there. The Witcher 3 was just that good of a game for me after playing 1 and 2 around Christmas, and I've always loved hunting achievements, but it came at a cost. I only saw friends once in the last two months, I never worked out, and I sacrificed 2 hours of sleep a night for 6 days a week just to get extra game time in. Ended up uninstalling the game after 160-170 hours.

How dare you sir
