Snes art had one of the best aesthetics and you can't change my mind.

If your eyes aren't drawn to the green spooker first you're a faggot.
Under modern concepts of social justice this game raped me.
How come we don't get boxarts with this much soul anymore?
Deus vault
git gud scrub
The detail is astounding up close.
Also featuring the most kino box back
I say is a combination of some people thinking the most realistic the graphics of a game the better it is (as opposed to the abundant stylization seen in this type of art) and the current obsession with minimalsm and irony
This decade is almost over and minimalism is still a meme, why?
Super Famicom has better boxarts
me irl
because is cool and mature, nothing like those old colorful and fun kiddy games /s
I like this better than the generic animu crap Japan got
Winner.
I really need to play this game as a 100% of the people who played it and talked to me about it praises the story as elder-god tier
>100% pure action
and that's why it's shit. the mix of action and rudimentary city builder is what made actraiser so great
I was legit surprised nobody posted this sooner. Might as well have been an inb4
Yeah, is fucking fantastic, you have to play it user, might even re play it myself since I haven't in so long
The game is really good and the story is neat, but it's not this incredible piece of art like people hype it to be. It's just a good game which was largely discovered through emulation.
It even beats modern day games on minimalist art
I feel like boxarts like this are becoming a lost art. I mean you can look at it close enough to see the texture of the canvas. Even when modern games create stuff to mimic this, it's done digitally versus a legit real painting. It's just kind of cool to know that somewhere out there, the original canvas probably exists on someone's wall.
Just noticed something, why do they use so much red and orange?
This right here. I think I like the nes box with the blue a bit more.
fantastic art, shit game
I noticed the same thing
Of course it's shit. You don't play as the big tittie sorceress girl.
Japan is better
Is pretty much already lost, I just wish there was more fan art of modern games with snes style cartridge art
Is this the record of lodos war artist?
SNES box arts were fucking scams. It's like modern day games' graphics being shown on E3 then downgrading it on release but even worse.
it's shit because the perspective changes everytime you turn your character around, making everything confusing and nauseating
Box art -- both in video game and in movies, specifically VHS art -- is dying or dead.
It's so much easier to place three faces in the center and put text above with little effort. It's a lost art and won't be coming back anytime soon.
"danger"colors.
Stands out against the black border.
With so much nostalgia baiting going around I with they tried to replicate this more, but that's too much effort to ask from souless corps milking nostalgia I guess
fucking radical
also goemon style game on switch when
You should. It truly is among the greatest games I've ever played (been gaming since late 8-bit era)
I don't miss westernised cover art
It's a classic, truly enchanting.
What the fuck happened bros?
Today the cover would be a close up of Simon doing this face with his arms spread out like a retard and a basic bitch background.
Are there any good emulator front ends that heavily display the boxart? I can't go back to plain text lists after this thread.
Good thread idea!
Yup, sad. I still think that sense of wonder (that "soul") can be achieved digitally though, it's just that it got lost in the way somehow, for most artists nowadays.
Agree.
Forgot pic
soul
wish it was easier to see the original artworks like pic related
this one is so comfy but also rad
Love or hate this style quality, you gotta admit they had a lot of personality
Ok gentlemen is time we face it
Cartdriges are cooler and should come back.
Always thought he looked a bit like Conan
Comfiest art of this thread
Is this game good? I had a lot of fun playing the first one with my brother back in the day
*blocks your dirt path
I really like how Mortal Kombat was fucking brutal even back in the day. The skulls in this cover are something straight out from Berserk eclipse or some shit, it's terrifying.
not as good as the first one in my opinion, but still if you liked it you don't lose anything by checking it out
Underrated kino
Is super famicom okay?
Y E S
formerly boring house
I hear all the praise but I've attempt 3 different play-throughs over the last 15 years and always give up after a few hours of dungeon crawls and vague talking statues. The gameplay is fine but the severe lack of (what seems like) meaningful story progression is what's killing me. Is there a point where it "gets good" that I'm missing? I played and liked Actraiser and Soulblazer fine so I don't know what's wrong with me.
there isn't, the story is nonsense the whole way
>Terranigma
>Secret of Mana
What was the third game?
:c
Illusion of Gaia?
I was wrong, forget Secret of Mana, the trilogy was Soul Blazer, Illusions of Gaia and Terranigma, the kino jrpg trilogy of the SNES
Good thread, OP.
thanks user
have a final bump
RetroArch lets you download boxart for the games.
at least was comfy while it lasted
>link's awakening remake screeching noises in the distance
noice
fuck yeah
>Tombular!
here's a neat documentary on the guy who did a lot of the NA Konami box art.
youtube.com
>tfw you threw out your SNES boxes and manuals
why?
nice
sauce
I learned my lesson when I found out used copies of the .hack games go for hundreds with the box, years after I'd tossed mine in favor of a disc binder
Not snes, and the american cover was dogshit, but this ad is great and the jap cart art is high fucking kino.
For reference
The Killer Cuts CD was legit.
Koei had amazing box art in the NES/SNES days.
I know this is a thread for snes but just giving some love to the megadrive whilst we're at it, there was some cool designs
I just noticed the fucking frog by the skeleton and medusa head
Probably because it stands out, gets your attention
Legit second fav game after
This baby!
