No, it is real. Nintendo changed her model after early copies of the game, as her thong was mischief input by a developer. Back in those times when control werent as strict.

As I explained, this model was used in early copies of the game. Nintendo found this out very quickly as in Mario Tennis GC, Peach sticks her ass out when she serves (that animation was removed in later games) and if the replay camera gets behind her, you can blatantly see her thonged ass. It is not more difficult than to hit the replay button over and over until you get the right angle.
So in contrary to what people believe, NO you dont need a cheat device to manipulate the camera to see the thong. And NO, the images are not fake.
