Is it worth playing the Vita in 2019? Sony have ended cart production and are discontinuing the vita and PS Plus support soon.
They might shut down the PS Store on it soon.

Not really, all worthwhile games are ported to either PS4 or Switch (except for Persona 4 Golden but I suppose we'll just stay tuned for that one). I can see a point to it if you can get it cheap and then hack it, maybe.
Get an older model and hack it, you should not spend money on a vita game in 2019 and it's a great emulation machine. I'm playing Xenogears on mine right now
what this guy said: except for the Switch part
That's right, defend your corporate overlords! Sony will pay good money for this!
>b-but Sony!
Unlike the PS4, the Switch lacks a fuckton of the best Vita games.
I had a vita (won it in a contest) and got a lot of entertainment out of it, but as others have said, a majority of the worthwhile exclusives have been ported, but if you're wanting a system that can play a shit ton of PS2/PSP games and has a good amount of console ports/console worthy games then I'd say go for it if it's cheap. I haven't messed with mine in a long while, but I think they are pretty easy to mod now so you can install emulators and psp games. The Switch is far superior spec wise, but I'd say this is Sony's poor attempt at doing something similar. Just be prepared for the hassle of paying out the ass for proprietary SD cards. It's my personal opinion that it was one of the things that killed the Vita so hard.
It's going to replace the original PSP as the ultimate portable emulation machine, so you should get one if you manage to find one cheap.
It was never worth playing.
30 rupees were transfer to your account.
shutting down the local device ps store is useless. you can buy/download stuff from the ps store website on any pc or phone and then it gets added to your vita/psp/ps3 download list.
>lacks a fuckton of the best Vita games.
That's a double negative.
If you hack and pirate it, sure.
Especially if you're into weeb shit. 90% of the library is random weeb RPGs and shit
You can still download the games, even if they shut down the store. I downloaded MGS1 for my PSP a couple of months ago no problem.
It's only good for an emulation and homebrew machine, sony cut off support for it years ago and it doesn't have any decent games that arent ports or have been ported since
I would grab one if you find it for cheap anyways because its a kickass emulation machine alone
it's one of the best things if you want to have reliable collection of time wasting indies (+couple of solid exclusives) on a compact device on the go/during the long trip.
it's only worth owning as a "upgraded hacked PSP". you got a better screen, dual analogs for ps1 games, and can use bluetooth for headphones or controller support.
i'd say, if it's just for emulation then he'd probably better off with just buying psp - teeny-tiny clicky XO[]^ buttons are pain long-term on Vita, as compared to mushy ones on psp)
Still enjoy it for the JRPGs but the Switch may completely replace it for that itch as well.
YES
DOWNLOAD THE SWITCH EMULATOR OR PS3 PC PORTS
STREAM IT ON THE VITA
BEST HANDHELD EVER YO!
The vita was such an amazing piece of hardware. It's a shame the hombrew scene never took off the way it did for the psp.
>Literally mentioning the Switch means you're a paid shill, even if you also mentioned PS4
makes sense
Lucky the Switch is even more powerful and has an actual shot at reaching it's potential!
It's library is full of mediocre weeb trash that a minority of vitafags bought in droves just to prove to themselves that this platform is good.
It would have been a great purchase for emulations a couple of years ago but now Switch shits all over it in this aspect too.
I guess it still may be worth if if you can find one for less than 80 bucks but that's pretty much it.
>vita run games at 544p 60fps
>switch cant even run games on 360p with 20fps with drops
KEKKEKEKEK
Doesn't switch run fucking Gamecube at about 20-30fps right now? Ps1 titles run perfectly too, not even mentioning the fact that you get both sticks, both triggers and don't have to play them in a gameboy-sized window like you do on vita.
Yep. Switch will be the ultimate portable emulator. With future revisions it will probably be even more portable with better battery life too.
>With future revisions it will probably be even more portable with better battery life too
if it doesn't last at least 6 to 7 hours without needing to be charged take the word "portable" out of there.
Someone recommend me some PSP rpg's to emulate
>if it doesn't last at least 6 to 7 hours without needing to be charged
Neither did Vita and PSP.
Personally, I can't think of a single scenario where I would ever use my switch that I would play for over 4 hours without being able to charge it. I think it has a pretty decent compromise between power/functionality and portability.

All models will be hackable soon, last layer of security was broken recently
Very few vita games actually played at native res
You can actually underclock now so shot like emulators that aren't ps1/N64 you can save tons of battery life
>Neither did Vita and PSP
bullshit, I have both and I at least can get 4 1hour and half gaming sessions out of the VITA (which has less battery life), it's even a refurbished hardware piece
I should play mine and finish Muramasa. Maybe get the DLC before it's gone forever.
>Shiren the Wanderer 5+
>ported
Oh yeah?
I can give you PSP but vita lasting 6 hours on anything other than underclocked NES emulator without sound and on the lowest brightness is a fucking lie. Shit wouldn't last 5 on any of it's """system sellers""".
If you don't already have one then no. A vita is just about as capable as a PSP for homebrew or emulators, and almost all of the games it does have are available on other platforms with either more content or look and run much, much better.
>anecdotal evidence
The battery life is on avarage 1 hour more than the Switch.
>blah, blah, blah, something, something
>IN CURRENT YEAR
>blah, blah, blah, blah
Found the zoomer...
>vita run games at 544p 60fps
There are practically zero non-indie vita games that do both of those. Most games are around 400p with a very unstable 20-30fps. The games that are higher resolution tend to be closer to an unstable 15-25fps with dips below if that.
>want to get a Vita
>but it has virtually no fucking games I want that aren't already on other platforms
Is it better to just get a PSP 3000 or PSP Go instead? The only worthwhile games I could find were Odin Sphere, Darius Burst, and Dragon's Crown.
Just get Switch and emulate psp on it.
Already own a hackable Switch, but I don't want to be barred from online just to play PSP games, nor is it worth going through the hassle.
