Races are an extremely heavy endeavor upon the game as they require a remodeling of every single piece of armor in the entire game as well as most mounts, and a recreation of every animation in the game with their skeleton, twice over.
If they can skip out on half of that by not having male bunnybois then it's a lot of time and effort conserved.

Cash shop mounts are nothing in comparison to how difficult it is to actually make races in XIV.

I was actually just about to reinstall this game, and clear the last raid tier, (I quit after killing Kefka last year) but them putting up this mount cancelled any plans I have for ever playing this game again. Fat Cat was my favorite pet in the game, and I had it summoned 100% of the time in the open world since ARR. Them putting a Fat Cat mount as a disgusting cash shop only item is the most fuck you thing I could possibly think of. Was going to probably sub all the way to the next expansion, and was definitely going to buy and play the next expansion, but now I will never play again. I'm being 100% serious.

I think I spent about an hour making my cute cat in ffxiv and one of the hardest decisions was choosing between 3 hairstyles and 2 fluffy tail variants. I then googled and found out I can change my hairstyle for in-game currency and chose the one that spoke to me the most, then proceeded to never change her hairstyle because it turned out to be perfect.

unless you want to play as a lizard or play samurai/red mage as soon as you hit 50, you don't need an expansion technically until well after you hit 50 as the level 50 story quests last you quite a while. I do suggest buying stormblood once you hit 50 if you do think you'll play the game to cap, as you can gain exp while doing that level 50 story if you own it

You only have to buy the latest expansion, which comes with the others bundled. Square Enix loves a summer sale and a winter sale, so they do indeed get discounted pretty often. There are never promotions, there is just a collector's edition (minor stuff) and preordering the next expansion for preorder rewards.
If you want access to the whole game right now, you will need to buy Stormblood. If you don't want to buy Stormblood and instead buy Shadowbringers, the next expansion that releases in July, then you will gain access to all the content in July, but will be stuck in ARR content until then.
You do not ever have to buy Heavensward, nor A Realm Reborn, as the twitch thing gave you that.
Currently, Stormblood is on sale on Steam, but not at the Square Enix store.

With subs all the money was from subs, so shit put into the game was focused on the game. The worst thing they'd pull is stretching shit out with grinds and such to keep people playing the game longer.

When f2p proved to be a better money making scheme, this encouraged the creation of forced inconveniences such as hour long resurrection sicknesses that could only be cured by micro-transaction items and other anti-player mechanics to make the game as unenjoyable as possible unless you chip up.

Okay, but that's not exactly in FFXIV. 95% of stuff you can pay for is cosmetic. The 5% that isn't is extremely minor mechanics (do racial stat differences even still exist? They have never truly mattered anyway), such as the suits of armor that gives you 30% more exp up to level 30, which barely impacts anything.
The items that actually make any meaningful difference, the Tales of Adventure which allow skipping of ARR, Heavensward, and job quests up to level 60, are only in demand because there is so much fucking content to XIV that lazy assholes want a pay money to not play the game in the most ass backwards thought process imaginable.

The MSQ is the one reason I can't recommend this game for most people. It wasn't bad in ARR 2.0, but with two expansions completed, it feels like there's just no end to the story to actually get to the recent content.

I think SE shot themselves in the foot making so much content for it but still having an endgame that's a big interest for people purely interested in gameplay as well. It makes sense that people should see the story in its entirity to know what's going on, but perhaps having a game mode that parsed everything out in distinct chapters that you can do at your own pace while still allowing you to do the raid and dungeon content at 70 (Wouldn't be too hard since raids and some dungeons are seperate from the MSQ anyway) would make it easier to draw in new players.

I know Shadowbringers is going to revamp the MSQ somewhat, but I have a feeling they're just going to trim most of it down to nothing.

Not that guy but I'd like to add that F2P also did this horrible thing where now everybody pretends cosmetics just don't matter. Cosmetics matter a shitload, particularly for anything multiplayer and were usually -- and still are -- the highest tier on the reward spectrum. Having monetised cosmetics both spoils the cosmetic themselves Wow that guy really paid 18 bucks to dress up like a maid? Really? and the reward structure in general.

Heres what people like this user don’t understand and thus think “exclusivity” is bad. When getting the best gear in MMOs was literally a no life tier achievement, the grand majority if people settled for something more low key, bare minimum, to do content until they slowly grinded their way up to the top. This made getting the gear more rewarding while also creating a progression ladder. Not only that but while the high ceiling was hard to reach it felt like most people where on the mid-ceiling anyway allowing for people to group up together and not require elitist levels of gear and profiency to enjoy the game at any level.

I'm leveling CUL to 70 too, but I'm also leveling ALC because sometimes CUL gets excluded from stuff because it doesn't actual "build" things. I chose those two because they seem to have the least dependencies with other crafter jobs.

Make sure you get everything else to 50 and GSM to 54 so you can actually end game craft.

Don't worry the grind to unlock the mount without paying will make the YoKai watch look like a light afternoons worth of work. Of course you will be able to buy it off the mogstation too.

Arcanist is a good class to level first, you get a DPS and a Healer levelled at the same time, just switch to SCH.

Don't get me wrong, I think Soken shits out gold. So a "meh" in FFXIV terms is still going to be better than most vidya soundtracks. I just think Byakko's and Zurvan's theme are lackluster when compared to the other primal themes of that expansion.

I initially came for the rewards from BA but I found the drama and politics to be farm more entertaining. There's a lot of bullshit that goes on with forming premade discord parties, trying to claim instances for your group in particular and trying to get people to help you do the support fate outside. Then you have the actual clownshow that is BA itself, which is full of people dying to random trash, traps and failing mechanics hard on AV/Ozma (even Raiden sometimes lol)
That being said it's probably the funnest thing in the game right now, in my opinion.

I agree with you. I actually didn't know about the ability to bypass the timer and found an M plot that was open. How could you know? It's all so fucking arbitrary. The error messages when buying give you no indication that you can transfer.

I just saw "You can only have one deed" so I ended up relinquishing my old plot in a panicked hurry. I went back to get hit in the face with the timer, and when I learned you could bypass with another plot, I didn't have enough gil to first buy a S plot and then an M. By that point 15 minutes had passed and the plot was gone. That pissed me off enough to unsub for a good 4 months. When I came back all of a sudden houses were in extreme demand and getting just an S back consisted of camping 4 different fucking times for hours on end each time.

The entire system is cancer. The biggest roadblock to getting bigger than a small plot shouldn't be praying to God that some nigger is going to unsub. It should just be gil.

Honestly, the gold saucer and kobold chairs are better. Crafted chair obscures your character too much when you're actually using it.

I remember waiting like five hours with two other guys for a small in the Goblet, I eventually snagged it first when it randomly went off cooldown. I was hoping to glean some info about it during the wait, but it seems to be completely random (Tried once every five minutes during server time and before and after every hour in Eorzea time, I finally got it on an odd time that didn't correlate with either).

It's retarded as fuck though, basically, everyone needs to own a small to progress up the housing chain, as once you have your small, you can trade it instantly and bypass the time for medium/large ones. The simplest way to fix that would be to simply allow housing plots to be auctioned, both by players or by NPCs, since then you have an orderly way to obtain housing by making it a bigger gil sink than it already is, and more plots would come up for sale since players who suspend their sub would be more likely to sell instead of sit on it since they could get it back (Of course, SE wouldn't get their $15 a month this way, so it won't happen).

I still think there should be a special housing district for various rotating achievements, such as a 60 house PvP district with the six larges going to the top place feast guys in each server on down to the 60th placed team, or a 60 house space for server first clears in Savage for each new raid released, or another for simple shit like the top 60 people who queued in leveling roulette as the most needed class. Would probably single handedly fix queue times. Without upkeep costs, housing just becomes a game of people endlessly sitting on plots of land forever and plots on coming up for sale once in a blue moon outside of the occasional small.

are the extra retainers worth it? I feel morally against an extra four dollars a month just for two more banks and an extra DoL / DoW slave

I played for like 2 or 3 months with some friends. I quit because I quickly figured out how much money I wasted and will never get back (and it wasn't much, compared to my "friends"). I also was really not impressed with the game, nor the players. ARR is dogshit and the filler after it is even worse. I began to fucking hate hearing Minfilia. Friends kept promising "it gets better" after ARR when you get to Heavensward, only they failed to tell me about the 100+ filler quests and "oh yeah that shit is awful." Players are assholes. I started to hate my "friends" (in particular, there's two of them that I don't speak to anymore that XIV just downright made me hate them...egging people on to throw homopobic slurs at them and then they fake outrage when reporting them). Mocking erpers because we were on Balmung, only to find them erping...list goes on.

You have no idea how badly I wish tanks could use this set.

To be honest, the arenas were legit really uninspired and samey, even if many encounters were great. I hate Omega's nostalgia bait, but you have to be some kind of robot to feel nothing for Neo Exdeath's entrance for example, or not acknowledge just how completely different Doomtrain's fight is visually compared to Chaos.

I agree though that in general Alex was more interesting, had some awesome mechanics and music, but visually it got very repetitive and had some real stinkers in there. Like A2.

They look the same at first glance, but a lot of them are filled with religious symbolism. A1 for example, the circular doors with that spiral design are very reminiscent of the illustration of the Empyrean from Paradiso. A4 and A8's arenas are mechanical versions of the interior of the Pantheon building. A5's surgical lamp is also a cathedral window. A lot of detail went into keeping the holy themes in Alexander, but it flew over almost everyone's heads.

The types that are into housing aren't the ones who raid. And the pvp thing is just a bad idea considering how dead and filled with cheaters pvp was. There was a guy who was top rank who cheated who only got a few days suspension while his rank got to stay up for example. As for the savage clear thing that's just a bad idea as well that could honestly result in people dying IRL as everyone wants to be first then resulting in them playing nonstop to not waist time. This is the same game where people's pets died to the world first ultimate race. And the most needed leveling roulette thing would result in basically only tanks getting the spaces.

Subtle symbolism is great and all, but that's not mutually exclusive with spicing arenas up a little more. The colour palette did not change almost at all, as I remember it. Like I said, you lose all attachment to a character if you keep changing them, according to that image, a 2 year gap they changed the character 503 times and name changed 31 times.

To this day, I still remember my characters appearance and names from every MMO I've played for a decent amount of time. Some of them enough to actually make me want to play again, because I hold more of an attachment to those characters than the game itself.

If you change your character 500+ times, are they even special anymore? They are just a fashion plate you change on a whim. You won't look back a few years from now and say, boy do I miss the 319th iteration of the character I had in that game.

I only cleared A1S back in the days and then properly started raiding in Midas and I really don't understand how A3S can be as hard as everybody makes it out to be. DPS checks? One of the biggest issues with A3S is that the movement and positioning mechanics were highly dependent on server ticks, and so left very little room for error. If your group had just a few people with less than stellar ping, just about every Digititis and Hand of Pain was a dice roll.

I don't mind it but I'd see people getting upset saying it's unfair and wasted slots that amount to tank only spaces. Most of the playerbase is dps only remember and I don't think they took too kindly to the exclusive mounts as it is so Imagine the shitstorm that will ensue from basically tank exclusive housing.And before you say play a tank, ''tank anxiety'' AKA tanxiety is a real thing in this game and they would rather bitch and cry then play a tank.
