>“GOG’s revenue couldn’t keep up with growth, the fact that we’re dangerously close to being in the red has come up in the past few months, and the market’s move towards higher revenue shares has, or will, affect the bottom line as well. I mean, it’s just an odd situation, like things got really desperate really fast. I know that February was a really bad month, but January on the other hand was excellent. We were in the middle of a general restructuring, moving some teams around, not unprecedented. But layoffs that big have never happened before.”
>That former employee may not have the full picture, of course, and may not be best pleased with the company. Don’t take it as solid fact. Unless something dramatic happens, we’ll likely need to wait a bit for firm word on the state of affairs. CD Projekt are due to report on 2018’s full financials in March, and for the first quarter of 2019 in May.
AAAAAAHHHHHH IT'S OVER
I only just started buying games on GOG.
GOG, TAKE ME ENERGY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>gog dying
Cyberpunk 2077 being Epic-Game-Stor-exclusive when?
Honestly if it does go under, do we lose access to all the games we have that we haven't downloaded?
>"You will have until XX-XX-XXXX XX:XX to download your purchases"
That's how they usually do it.
Ha ha ha ha
what purchases?
>GOG
>What purchases?
of course the least invasive one is suffering.
I usually get them from a river
One layoff does not mean dying you stupid retard.
Good.
I stopped using gog after this.
What kind of bait do you use for games?
This is what happens when you try to be "based" and fuck over older loyal customers by giving out half your catalogue for free the past few years to zoomers. Fuck gog.
Yeah. Download the Galaxy-less versions now and burn them on Blu-ray. The good thing is that you won't depend on Internet activations.
>Sale are a bad thing because I didn't buy them on sale
Fuck off.
Laying off people doesn't mean you're dying it means you have too much staff.
>It's not a cause for alarm
>OMG GOG IS DYING OH NO NO NO NO
Yea Forums gets shitter by the day
Its impossible. Being so pro-consumer and drmless is guarantee that it will stay alive and win over steam eventually.
You
DENSE
mother fucker.
THE PROBLEM IS THEY GAVE OUT GAMES I FUCKING BOUGHT AGES AGO FOR FREE RECENTLY TO DUMBASS ZOOMERS LIKE YOU THIS ISN'T A SALE IT'S A STRAIGHT UP ASSFUCKING TO THEIR ACTUAL CUSTOMERBASE YOU THINK I'M GOING TO KEEP BUYING GAMES FROM THEM AFTER SEEING HALF MY FUCKING CATALOGUE THAT I SPENT LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO OBTAIN JUST BEING HANDED OUT TO UNDERAGED LITTLE FUCKWITS LIKE YOU FOR FREE?! HELL NO GOG CAN SUCK A LEMON AND CRASH ANDB URN INTO THE GATES OF HELL NOW FUCK YOU FUCK GOG FUCK REIMU AND FUCK HIRO
>drmless
>win over steam eventually
I hate Steam and DRM, but I'm not delusional.
At best they gave away 5% of their catalog.
you got to play them immediately, they had to wait for freebies.
too bad, so sad.
wow, are you mad?
*Kisses brow*
It's okay, babe. We can play Beneath a Steel Sky sometime together, babe.
>Gog gave out an old game for free
I see you're problem
this. how many teams do you need to run a store front? it's not amazon or ebay that needs constant updates and infrastructure upgrade.
You need a skeleton staff to keep the store up to date and maybe 5-6 devs for the client and site issues.
What's with all the GOG hate in this thread? Are you guys going to pretend that Steam or any other platform is better for non-multiplayer games, or that any other company cares less about social justice?
At least I don't have to wait to update some shitty client every time I want to play something.
No one wants to sell new games without drm, if big publishers won't change their minds they are fucked. GOG needs new AAA titles, they can't go forever with old games and indie shit.
Get woke, go broke.
Epic shills.
Gog-chan is eternal.
GoG is based and I fucking hate Poles
All of these are publishers and developers being too lazy. Hell those Vlambeer fucks were still selling broken game maker games on Steam that were trivial to fix.
>He didn't wait for them to give it out
OH NONONONO HAHAHAHA
I think you're right. Steam has a million zoomers buying from it because it has the latest and greatest and they don't give a shit that they're getting shafted relentlessly as long as they can play whatever game is "cool".
Get Woke Go Broke. Its like magic. Get friendly with Resetera trannies, immediatly run into financial problems.
really doubt they make a lot of money with all those low-cost-games.
plus considering this list they don't really give a damn after selling the game anyway.
But GOG allows those publishers to treat the GOG-users as an afterthought.
If they go under, they will obviously reach to all their clients and tell them to download everything they own within a period of time before they shut things down.
It just shows that nobody cares about gog.
You need an updated version? download with torrents, you use them anyway.
>win over steam eventually
I doubt this will ever happen unfortunately. GOG will remain niche unless there's a massive change in industry culture regarding DRM, which seems unlikely to happen any time soon. Besides, the entire point of its creation was to act as an archive for older games, so it was always meant to be smaller store. Trying to go bigger could be a terrible idea considering the current competition.
Because you dont ever get updates.
Id rather spend 2 minutes for my 1000mbps fiber connection to download a quick 2-3gb update than not get them at all, which is what happens with games on GoG, which either never recieve the updates that are pushed to steam or get them extremely late.
Not to mention you cant even play multiplayer with the majority of other players.
Same. Fuck them
>all these big flops
>all these major studios getting rid of people
Is it happening?
>company fired a literal dozen of people
>news are shoved in my face everywhere
Almost makes me wonder if there's an agenda. Some company firing ten people is not news
magnetic stream bait
>they don't really give a damn after selling the game anyway.
What can gog do if devs don't want to patch their games on gog because of small playerase? It will only change if more people will buy games from gog and playerbase will be bigger.
>What's with all the GOG hate in this thread?
It's all laid-off employees being salty.
t. One of them.
What's that? They didnt allow postal?
GOG employs well over 100 people. A dozen being let go isn't cause for concern unless that dozen were part of the team that works on repairing older games.
i never buy from gog because their payment center is outside the usa and my card acts weird with it
like no one wants to call their bank every time to buy some old game
retard, that's how it's supposed to be. games should always eventually be free
do you think the TV you buy today for $600 is still worth $600 10 years later? you're like a shitty craigslist seller
>take charge in literally nothing else in your entire life
>decide not to buy from a game platform because they understand how PR works
lmao okay bye
Catch any biguns lately?
You guys dont understand how its important to be drmless.
How many times games were inaccessible because of drm. Dont you remember starforce?
>What can gog do if devs don't want to patch their games on gog because of small playerase?
start bitching at the publishers for starters.
>It will only change if more people will buy games from gog and playerbase will be bigger.
"he look, these tards buy our games even after we're treating them like shit!"
>not having your bank account tied to paypal so you pay 0 tax on GOG
>projecting
dont come back
>like no one wants to call their bank every time to buy some old game
Can't you buy with paypal?
Yeah but Steam wins by poor volume of games alone. GoG specializes more so inevitably its going to have a smaller userbase and smaller amount of games. Its the difference between a popular night club and a small punk bar.
gog more like synagog
>get identified virtually by name
>g-go away
>GOG
>Good fearures
But their client is fucking shit
For me the issue is that they sometimes link games from steam and add them to your gog account. All else being equal, I still have the slim chance of owning a game on both platforms if I buy on steam.
They tweeted a screenshot from Postal 2 that referenced Gamergate.
SJWs went apeshit and GoG bent the knee.
Don't use the client, friend. Just download the installers and stick it to the man.
>"he look, these tards buy our games even after we're treating them like shit!"
Didn't tell anyone to buy games from gog, just stated the fact that devs of the games are responsible delayed patches not gog and it will only change if playerbase will be bigger. Thats all.
>that devs of the games are responsible delayed patches not gog and it will only change if playerbase will be bigger. Thats all.
Yes, GOG-users' money is worth less to the publishers than steam-users', and GOG lets them get away with that mindset.
>Abusive movement
This is still being peddled after so many years, eh?
I know. The thing is that most people don't really care about DRM.
That's gotta suck.
After Witcher 3's success they had to use some of the profits to repurchase stock to prevent any possible hostile takeover attempt.
The reported starts and restarts were costly
Now GoG is struggling.
Even the Government subsidies have run out.
GTA 2077 better do more than breakeven.
But it is worth less.
You have similar cost in patch development testing on different code distributions, but smaller user bases on GOG. You therefore see less of a margin on GOG than Steam. Each individual dollar is the same, but as a % of return you see more on Steam.
>Yes, GOG-users' money is worth less to the publishers than steam-users', and GOG lets them get away with that mindset.
Can't really see what they can do about it. If they force that devs will have to patch it in the same time as steam or else they can't sell on gog, publishers will simply stop selling their games on gog at all. It's a shitty situation but gog doesn't have any leverage in that case. Its all up to consumers and thier willingles to still buy on gog with the hope it will grow bigger and situation will get better in the future.
Yea, its already known on which side they are.
>Even the Government subsidies have run out.
There was no Government subsidies, only eu funds.
>build a platform
>the platform is now built
>no more need for the builders
Does this not makes sense to you?
Obviously they should have executed them instead of laid them off.
Don't bother.
He doesn't want conversation he just wants to "OH NO NO NO" post for (you)s. This is Yea Forums meta now, sage and move on.
They're making sci-fi Age of Wonders? What the fug
>Honestly if it does go under, do we lose access to all the games we have that we haven't downloaded?
pretty sure they're all in torrents somewhere, it's fine
>good features and customer support
Very few care about DRM, or about the old games they've fixed up and ensured work properly. GOG has no chance for mass market appeal, if you ever thought so you're retarded.
And let's not forget that GOG is lying in their own store.
gog.com
>BioShock™ Classic is included with your BioShock™ Remastered purchase
gog.com
>BioShock™ 2 Classic is included with your BioShock™ 2 Remastered purchase
SPOILER: GOG-buyers don't get the classic-versions, Steam-buyers do.
gog.com
gog.com
>but gog doesn't have any leverage in that case.
being open and honest about it would be nice, see above.
preferably on the store-page, not messages hidden deep in their shitty forums.
>bye!
>btw im still here
sad
They literally just uploaded the classic editions to GOG, retard
I don't usually say this, but...

No one said bye, weirdo.
I'm on my neet board doing my neet thing in-between lovin', remember?
This. Get woke, go broke
and only two months after starting to sell it saying the Remastered-versions come with the Classic versions, based GOG, my greatest ally.
you don't own anything anyways what is the point in being angry.
>no games
>any big game they do manage to get is downloaded for free via torrent because LOL NO DRM MUH RIGHTS
>wow why is this game store dying
lmao
I own your tight butthole.
>TFW GOG literally proves that the industry needs DRM to be successful
Sorry moralfags, you were completely overwhelmed by selfish fags.
Blatent lie.
It stated "Classic will be added at a later date" on the page where it now says the classic will be added.
Can you be any more buttmad?
>any big game they do manage to get is downloaded for free via torrent because LOL NO DRM MUH RIGHTS
Like if there was no piracy of Steam-only games...
You're lying. It said they were coming soon, not that they were already available. The message was updated only an hour ago.
literally said bye
Now it's available and before that it was stated
>Note: The classic versions of both games will be added as a free bonus at a later date.
retard
Like I reposted in another thread: there's no way in hell anything happened(unless those 12 employees deserved to get fired for stealing/etc). CD Project(owners of GoG.com) is swimming in money from The Witcher series and GoG.com's success. GoG has been fine since 2008; it's not going anywhere.
BUT STEAM ISNT A MONOPOLY :D
Lmao you wish. Cyberpunk ain't gonna be realized as they'll go bankrupt
it was a metaphorical bye
Aren't most games cracked anyway regardless of platform or type of DRM? You could argue that multiplayer should require DRM at least (unless gog Galaxy already does that, afaik it's optional), but most old gog games don't even have multiplayer. Tbqh I think the lack of games is what is holding gog back, they can't even get rights for all the old games that were worth playing. They're probably just learning their place as a small platform rather than a Steam competitor.
You know CDPR owns GOG, right?
It's coming out this year
Sure, some single player games do get cracked usually after a long wait. GOG installers were the "cracks" of choice because they were free of malware, available on day 1 and you could even play fucking multiplayer for free lmao. Literally the only thing GOG was good for.
gog.com
Gog is totally okay. Nothing to worry about.
good riddance
GAMERS RISE UP.
He knows, his point is that GOG will be such a failure that they will have to sell out to get Chinese bucks.
>pick one point out of post
>not even the main point
>I think it was actually reason x
>reason x was literally the first and main point
Double-digit IQ contrarians
>die
Like gone forever? How this could even happen anyway according to all you paranoid niggers
Shit, Epic Store is really influencing other stores.
>Go to an abandonware website
>Download some old game
>Put DOSBOX on it
>Charge 10 dollars
>Money only goes to the person who bought the rights to it decades later
Imp lying I'd use this shitty service.
Gog forums literally have karma.
>You know CDPR owns GOG, right?
No they don't. They are separate entities under CD PROJEKT.
It's still angers me that the fuckwit journos got out of gamergate just by claiming to be victims of x y or z. Playing the victim is a 100% way to win anything in this country I guess. Unironically thanks to the kikes for this bullshit I guess, perfecting this shit for over 75 years.
>hire 20
>fire 12
hmmmm
I always pirate games that are released on GOG.com because it's so easy. I have played probably close to 100 games from them and have not given them a single cent.
>Gamers don't have to be your audience.
Didn't worked out that well for GoG.
>I failed high school economics class: the post
Never knew about this, should have known after they censored the nazi out of i have no mouth but i must scream
I can tell you something interesting in that regard. I have ten dollars and the video game. GOG has layoffs.
cull the few to save the many
>as soon as possible
Based GOG.
They will get tons of cash once Cyberpunk is available for sale
You were wrong. Take the L
You're only helping my argument.

oh shit guys this might be bigger than vidya
Im browsing v,g and biz
Remember the crash of 2009? Its coming back to finish what it started and no government bail out will stop it this time, sorry user but this is going to be the big one
>BioShock™ Classic will be added as a bonus to BioShock™ Remastered at a later time, at no additional cost
>web.archive.org

>NO ONE SAID BYE

>M-METAPHOR
sadder and sadder!
is /biz/ still 90% shillcoin posting?
That and NEETposting, Literally nothing of interest there anymore.
Yeah pretty much, checked in today for the first time in a year to see how the dumpster fire was going but the was atleast one interesting thread talking about this
>atleast one interesting thread talking about this
Can you link it? I can't find it.
There ya go
But you were the chosen one!!!!!!!!
yeah, their share of the price is the problem, not their FCK-DRM-policy.
lol.
I fucking hate self-reference. They're the creative equivalent of masturbation.
>says it's not cause for alarm
holy shit. RIP.
release more classics am not interested in new stuff on GoG, I have steam for that. Know your niche in the market dummies.
if they needed to damage control then it means it's actually worse than it seems, and probably only the begining of a 2-3 phase restructuration plan.
Everything they ever sold would get pirated hard.
>games should always eventually be free
Is that why gog demands money for 20 years old games?
>GOG lay off around 10 people
>while opening positions for 20 people
>"THE COMPANY IS DYING - TIME TO SWITCH TO EPIC GAME STORE - PRAISE XI"
also, them suspending their fair-price-policy is a positive sign.
Dozen out of 100 is 12%
reminder that Activation only fired 8%
>On March 31st we are going to discontinue the Fair Price Package program.
No!
It might not count for much, but I don't want to pay an extra 5%~ on each purchase. This sucks.
I thought GOG was a warez release group.
This
this is the 5th time I saw this article posted and again Yea Forums didnt even read it.
tl;dr lay-offs are people that have nothing to do with GOG, just customer service n shit.
Is that picture meant to represent people reacting to your stupidity?
No, it isn't. They had to reduce their cut in order to attract more publishers. That's not good news at all.
Should ≠ is.
Fuck off newfag.
...
>repairing older games
What a load of shit. Most their repairs are just either using dosbox or a community made compability mod. They are making all their money based on someone else's work. I don't even know how it can be legal, but apparently it is.
According to polish source it's around 10% of the team. The same source says they hired around the same number and have 20 open positions though.
It's not a good sign, but it's not the end of the world.
>I don't even know how it can be legal
>It was strikingly clear to the Court that Anderson's work was a derivative work; that under 17 U.S.C. section 106(2) derivative works are the exclusive privilege of the copyright holder (Stallone, in this case); and that since Anderson's work is unauthorized, no part of it can be given protection.
>en.wikipedia.org
GOG stopped being the old games store anymore. The last time they added an old game was what, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 a year ago?
The current state of GOG is basically a very curated indie game store. And they offer zero incentives for larger developers who are afraid DRM free copy will hurt the sales due to extra piracy.
>Anthem isn't a flop
-Bioware
Oh I guess it isn't a flop now.
Probably since they work directly with the creator of DOSbox
>For Theme Park we had to ask Qbix to create a separate branch of DOSBox. The game was all over the place, it didn’t work at all. The biggest problem was with memory allocation. We had previous problems with Realms of Arkania, where the last boss was basically unbeatable because of the memory allocation issue. But there are games that are much more difficult, and those are the early Windows games. Here is where we have the majority of the fun, so to speak.
>One of the problems we had with Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and this is one of the reasons we do full playthroughs from beginning to the end, was that at the very end, an elevator that’s supposed to take the player to the next level was gone. At first, we thought it was caused by one of our fixes, but it turned out that it was a known bug and the only workaround is to restart the chapter until it works, or to find a saved game where the elevator is present. We were able to fix it.
They do good work
pcgamer.com
>But their client is fucking shit
Still better than Steam which baffles me.
Some of them force-install the bloody thing without warning.
>GOG stopped being the old games store anymore
They brought back multiple Monkey Island and Indiana Jones games recently.
pcgamer.com
pcgamer.com
> With an increasing share paid to developers, our cut gets smaller.
Wait, did they reduce their cut? They don't take 30% anymore?
It looks like it.
GET WOKE
GO BROKE
I'm actually appalled and disgusted by gog's recent actions so they can suck a big fat one.
they should sell weeb games and all those tricky games. stop pretending like a smug dealer, polacks.
I don't understand why some stores are so afraid of selling adult-only games. Not even Valve cares anymore besides a few stupid developers banning loli content.
GOG sold AO-rated games way before Steam, such as the uncut version of Fahrenheit and that Larry game.
>tfw I have over 750+ games on GoG
shit, better start downloading them I guess
I was talking more specifically about weeb games like VR Kanojo but yea you're right about that
Soon it's time to add GOG to the long list of things that got woke and went broke.
>Come on dude, don't you want to pay us extra while Muhammad, Pajeet and Boris get the game for 10% of that price
"No."
I can't help but cringe a little at that list
Why are they already not downloaded and on an external hard drive?
because I'm a lazy fuck
Which is not for long term storage.
she looks like she gives good head desu
I already get my drm free games on steam so this doesn't affect me if it shuts down.
low quality bait
>drm free
>steam
Ah, you're retarded I see.
Regional pricing is bs.
You don't get games cheaper just because you were born to poor parents or in a poor part of your country.
This is bait but whatever.
Stop being a literal reactionary that gets triggered over tweets and learn to judge products based on their quality.
There are legit DRM-free games. Of course, they don't use installers and Steam doesn't actually recognize their DRM-free state, but there are there.
However, it works like a charm. There's a reason publishers do it.
like clockwork
>FUCK REIMU
ok that's a bit much no?
>GOG starts to get in trouble
>CDP hurry to put out Cyberpunk 2077 to compensate
Make it happen.
i'll be honest with you
i only used gog to get the gog connect games for free
yet you still bit
>wanting an unfinished game because your impatient
It'll be unfinished no matter the date.
Why do the good guys always lose
so this... is the power... of competition...
they haven't even started making it yet, right?
>everyone buys it on Steam
GoG still fucked
Talking about GOG, why no one has made a W95 emulator that works like DOSBox?
Wine on win10-WSL
That wasn't the case with Witcher 3
Self-reference is fine as long as it's not self-reverence. You're right that it comes off as masturbatory otherwise.
The only winning move is not to pay.
I got W3 on gog and not steam to support cdpr, but no longer if that means to also support gog.
JUST
Win95 is a bit more complex
If I had to play a bunch of shitty old games through to completion I'd demand stupidly high wages too.
Competition for sellers (them) instead of competition for buyers (you). Enjoy!
So GOG lowered their cut from 30% to 12%?
Will this give us more DRM free games?
no
Of course not. Remember when games were supposed to be cheaper in the Epic store because they take less of a cut?
But burgers get it for 10 bucks less!
The Only Country That Matters.
brainlet here, how is epic affecting gog?
Tencent-co-owned Epic is luring game-publishers with charging lower cuts on the generated revenue.
>TFW Vlambeer only released Luftrausers and then died.
I hope they only laid off useless left wing ideologues and other people with a strict moral compass.
It's probably not them
