The story was genuine (Though a bit cringey.), the grind for end-game stuff was respectable, and the soundtrack is fantastic. I listened to Disgaea's music for years at the gym.

What important life lesson or memorable story does Disgaea 2 empart? What characters stand out as being original, entertaining, or memorable? The music wasn't terrible in 2, but it was nowhere near the quality of 1.

Disgaea 2's story, characters, music, and gameplay was RUSHED to bank off of Disgaea 1's success. It's just a shadow.

I cannot even remember the plot of Disgaea 2 at all. I think the main character was Addell? Some red dude that punches. The girls name started with an R. Rosaline, Rossanne, something like that. There was some sort of ninja girl character I think at some point?

Now Disgaea 1, starts simple, but gets pretty complex. True ending is quite sad. Very, very memorable characters. You got Laharl, basically the son of the devil. Etna, his "loyal" vassal. Flonne, an angel trainee sent from heaven to bridge the two worlds. Archangel Vulcanus, the bad guy of Celestia, Midboss, Laharl's reincarnated dad. I forget the final boss's name but I know the secret boss's name was Baal. The character development was really polished in the first game, they really grow on you. In the end it's basically a Romeo and Juliet esque tale of sorts just more serious than some random jackoffs that make no difference in the world.

Oh yeah the human characters. The space guy and his blonde big titty sidekick. I forget their names. :(

Disgaea 2 has game breaking bullshit glitches, like in the early game there's a tile set where the enemies level multiplies or some crap, so you capture a bunch, stack their levels (Combine them) then capture them then reincarnate them to any class you want. Free lvl 9999's right off the bat. I pretty much skipped all the Disgaea 1 grind with this, eliminating hundreds of hours of work.

1) The lv9999 nekomata capture thing is not a glitch, even if it was, they changed capture mechanics in the PSP/PC ports and any subsequent games so you can't do that anymore
2) disgaea games are meant for the player to find ways to abuse game mechanics to get what they want
3) even if having lv9999 captured monsters trivializes the mains tory and beginning part of post-game, it's still not enough for something like Baal. You will need to grind for a good equipment set, still have to reincarnate characters to raise stats further, some of the Dark Sun maps will shit on your nekomata team, as will anything in LoC, etc.

It is, but also everyone can get magic, weapons, or a nearby Prinny to throw. Hell, you could even try to bargain with some strong dude to give him sex in exchange for protection. Also D5 confirms there are some Netherworlds where demons just live easygoing lives instead of trying to kill each other. Also you can reincarnate again.

I'd be more scared of doomsday events like Void Dark nuking every Netherworld or Aurum poking Mao until he snaps than criminals.

There's no real definite on which game you should start with, it all depends on story, gameplay,how much time you'd be willing to put into it,etc

Disgaea 1 is regarded to have the best story of all of them while 5 (along with Disgaea 1 Complete which is just a copypaste of 5's battle system and some QoL patches) and D2 have the best gameplay

You can start really anywhere in the series seeing that every disgaea game has a different story, characters, and appeal.

I'd recommend 5 or Disgaea 1 Complete are starter picks.

No it's not. It's the exact same system as original D1 just with HD sprites. Meaning diagonal throw has to be done like in the older games instead of being able to choose the tile like in D5/DD2, no evilities, no parry, no subweapons, class unlocks needing multiple leveled up characters of specific classes in your roster, capture only working for monster enemies, Healers needing to kill enemies themselves to get experience, etc..

Story is hit or miss with people, and yes Heart Bank parts are annoying, original PS3 version fucked up the damage formula so it becomes one hit kills in the postgame (including your own characters), weapon forte system was meh and again in the original PS3 version it made it so the story characters can't learn any weapon skills past tier 3 on their own, chara world is something most people hate, and I'm probably missing more but yeah it's multiple things at once that didn't sit well with people.

Yep. But in 4, at least the story characters can unlock later tiers of skills by leveling up.
