XII is that weird product of Sqauresoft's culture. Everyone knows about the executive meddling the game got that caused it to suffer, but a lot of people forget that the game exists because Matsuno was hand selected by Sakiguchi to continue the franchise. Not only that but Kawazu came in after Matsuno's departure to try to keep things from going belly-up.

The main reason is that creatively bankrupted Yoshida needs other games to rip off, I mean, take influence from and likes 12 and has been actively pushing anything Ivalice. 10 is Kitase/Toriyama's baby, so if anyone's going to push that shit it's them and they're too busy trying to make sure FF7R isn't DoA so they don't get Tanaka'd .
