It had the depth of a kiddy pool.

Spoken like someone who didnt play the game.

Anyway, its a fighting game that isnt smash so it was destined to die early. Even so it did pretty well considering its genre and new Ip status

I have it. I barely have 10 hours in it. It was boring.

Your mom didn't abort you.

The concept was original but the execution ended up being pretty boring.

Basically it was a barebones release and they didn't advertise it nearly as well as Splatoon. That said it was still a million seller

I liked it.

Low amount of content even after all of the updates. It'll go down as a cult classic like Custom Robo or some shit.

Unironically it's my favorite game on the switch. I like every character except that faggot robot with a dog. Unfair fucker

Who is best character?

I wonder if there was more to the world than the one screen for each character and some menus that I'd be more invested.
Add a hub world like a ring-side or a locker room, have some chat with the characters to learn more about them and why they fight. Splatoon nailed the importance of having a hub for down time between matches and a single player mode for some variety in its first game and ARMS could have stood to learn from it.

No fucking sequel hurry up Nintendo.

Zero depth. It needed specials, more holds to set up juggles, faster impacts. It might have worked as a simple beat em up, but as a fully featured fighter? Nah.

Wrong
What went wrong was that the game didn't have enough content to push its value up to $60, so it was dropped pretty quickly by most, especially in a market with tons of other Fighting games that were finally hitting that critical value ratio like SFV or Tekken 7

It didn't have zero depth, but if each character had a unique special that used their ARMS in a way distinct to them, it would have turned out better I think.
It also needs a way for you to retract arms early

It didn't have enough content in it, and when it finally got characters and free game modes no one cared and Nintendo stopped supporting it.

Shame, had the game been $30 I would've picked it up, looked fun

Should have been a dual release with Punch Out!! Switch!!!

loved the demo so i finally bought it second hand, waiting on delivery atm

just found out the graphic novel was delayed, should be news soon though

not enough stuff in it and the absolute worst part being how they just stopped making content for it so soon

like wow it really didn't feel like they supported it for that long

Mechanically? Too defensive. Even if you get a hard read on a dodge, it's rather hard to actually punish it.

In terms of the characters, there wasn't enough variety. Turns out it's hard to make a distinct roster when the types of attacks every character can do are fundamentally the same, even though they all have their own gimmicks.

As for the game as a whole, it just didn't have enough content.

Nothing went wrong. It was great and even post-smash-bros can still find people in lobbies to fight. Good game.

Nintendo tried to make their own version of Sega's Virtual On but removed all the speed and depth of that series making for a very shallow experience.

I don't know how it didn't sell more, the cover features a WOMEN punching a MEN.

No sequel.

Splatoon 2's hype killed the game. Arms was released in June. Splatoon was going to release the very next month. Of course people were going to wait.

its at least a 7, imo
it needed way more support and dlc than what it got, cause the potential is definitely there
all in all its a very interesting game that has a fair amount of replay value for those who want to pursue it, and the tactics with each fighter coupled with different weapons have a substantial amount of depth to them

Get ready for the utter ghost town that is ranked

Nothing, it sold fucking great for a new IP and had a steady bout of tournaments for awhile. Fighting games are always niche as hell.

nonexistent singleplayer

modern fighting games live or die based on their singleplayer, that's why mortal kombat is the best selling fighting franchise and in part why sf5 struggled at launch

also I think in terms of game design arms failed to find a niche because it's too hard to play well for super casual players (the footsies based playstyle requires a surprising amount of game sense and good reactions) while being too shallow for fans of more classic fighting games (very limited combos, not enough variety in character archetypes, no crossups, no high/low mixups etc etc)

a shame because I find the presentation top tier

i guess you could say the game didn't have any legs
