guys remember when linux used to be a thing before windows proved their superiority not only to normies but hardcore devs as well? i remember when we had an actual choice of OS, not just using windows

linux desktop fucking sucks

god I wish that were me.

haha look at that monkey

i want to lick linux penguin's feet

The funny thing is that thanks to DXVK which just hit 1.0 today Linux is now a better Windows than Windows.
Which is pretty reassuring now that we're less than a year away from the end of Windows as we know it.

64-bit support for PoL when?

This, Windows will be gone soon. Gaben is preparing for the eventual transition to linux, it's inevitable.

>is now a better Windows than Windows.
Not while it can't run modern windows games and multiplayer, it's not.

Only actual problem currently is anticheat programs. Thats it.

should start by releasing a proper linux desktop

Instead of meming, what are you lacking?

We just got Windows 10 at work, shit is fucking painful to use. It finally got some fucking basic window management functionality like an overview and multiple-desktops, but its barely functional compared to a good modern GNU/Linux desktop.

a proper desktop

Hasn't PlayOnLinux supported 64-bit Wine for years now?

>but its barely functional compared to a good modern GNU/Linux desktop
blatant lie
a fresh linux desktop is barely functional compared to a fresh windows or macos install
this is a fact

PURPLE PENGUINS ONLY
GET OUT

you had me there, big boy :^)

Nah. Valve has a lot of foresight in realizing that having most of their library tied to Windows represents serious risk, but Proton, Steam machines, native Linux compatibility etc are not strong enough draws to make people actually use Linux as their desktop OS. I say this as someone who likes Linux and does the ol' GPU passthrough to Windows virtual machine for gaymen - very few people care.

Maybe, if you're talking about the fact that there's no spyware to disable. Took me about thirty minutes to find all the settings work would let me turn off in order to get something actually usable.

the client itself is a 32-bit application, so while they manage to run 64-bit virtual drives the client itself can not access more than 4GB of RAM. It's weird, I know.

This is why everyone hates linuxniggers
>tfw too smart to figure out the most basic shit imaginable

I think Linux vs Windows is literally the same as Xbox vs Playstation

>the client itself is a 32-bit application
Are you talking about the Wine instance or the PoL application itself? Becuase PoL is written in Python and Bash, so it shouldn't be compiled for i386, and it shouldn't be restricted to 4GB of RAM.

sure did

there comes a point where you have to choose if you want to take a sip of piss, or a gobble a full plate of shit
I choose the piss, maybe some day that plate will transform into decent food and to be honest I really hope it happens sooner rather than later, but it's not quite there yet and I hate the smell and taste of shit

linux niggers don't even know how a proper desktop should work for the most part, that's why whatever shit currently available is "good enough" for them and are so adamant to defend it

Its not really like that, because one is a open platform that can never be taken away from the community, and the other is a platform that will die at the whim of its owner just as surely as a console will die when its time to make people buy a new one.

Doesn't hurt the comparison that Windows is literally owned by a console company.

I don't think that's true. Xbox and Playstation have crazy money behind them and comparable marketshare in economies that are not Japan. There's real competition. Microsoft has mega money and what little money Linux development has is largely provided by chump change from big money investors (including Microsoft).

Im glad that you have the final truth on how this should be. Have you applied for Microsoft yet?

God I love BHC

>not already using GNU/Linux 24/7
You're not even trying, Yea Forums.

>BUT MAH GAMES
If you can't play a game on GNU/Linux via some method or the other, it's not worth playing. No fucking lie.

I know this is a huge surprise, but there are multiple billion-dollar companies whose entire business is centered around Linux development, which is exactly what you'd expect given that its now the #1 OS in the world.

Unlike Windows it even has a company entirely devoted to it as a gaming platform.

>Microsoft
what
look, I love Linux and how it's come such a long way the last 20 years, but I'm not going to sit here and defend shit like the horrible desktop landscape we currently have
gotta go to bed my good brother, god bless and don't settle for shit because of dumb and blind fanboy faggotry

You still havent given anything of substance

>horrible desktop landscape
>Hurr I think Ubuntu is what Linux is and its horrible desktop is the only way
Try plasma, lxqt, xfce, i3, fluxbox, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. Any of that shit is far and away better than Microsoft's clunky shit desktop.

That's not a big surprise to me, and I understand that Linux is #1 due to being used in embedded devices and Android phones. They use it because it's free as in free beer, among other reasons. It's not replacing Windows for desktop owning video game enthusiasts though.

> It's not replacing Windows for desktop owning video game enthusiasts though.
Not yet. The clock is ticking though and its only a matter of time.

For users with AMD hardware its advisable to upgrade sooner rather than later for the far superior Linux-exclusive drivers.

It's because it's free as in Freedom.

>not replacing windows
Worked for me. Maybe you should actually try it. Oh wait, you can't do that, Microsoft has brainwashed you too hard. Or maybe you are a Microsoft paid FUD specialist.

Wipe your botnet Windows and use a real OS.
