From Software should work on a real sequel to this game after Sekiro.
>Dense brooding atmosphere (moreso than any Souls game).
>God-tier OST and one of their best.
>Actual dungeon crawling and secrets.

However, the gameplay is slow and clunky and it's why it deserves a sequel with the knowledge and skill From has acquired.

It wouldn't be the same, the low budget and clunky mechanics were a part of the charm. What we really need is a good Ultima Underworld successor, something King's Field vaguely attempted but not quite. King's Field (and the superior Shadow Tower) had their time but they wouldn't look right in Unreal 4 and there would need to be a significant combat overhaul to accomodate the more responsive movement.

how would you make a modern sequel to king's field that isn't just a souls game

Keep it in the first person perspective. Restrict your ability to run around and incorporate a slow-to-medium walking speed. Have you really prepare for your treks with item, weapon, and armor management. NPC. With a first person perspective, you can have more complex environmental puzzles. More strategy in dealing with enemies by maybe focusing on limb targeting, elemental damage, etc.

Really, just make a slow-paced FPS Souls game.

It should control more like Arx Fatalis. I'd actually prefer if it was like Ultima Underworld where you drag the mouse to swing in a certain direction, but modern players wouldn't be into that.

I was playing King's Field 1 the other day and damn, the soundtrack really holds up pretty well and it also made me wonder why the Souls games don't have music playing in the background for when you visit new places and stuff, it would be perfect

make it like Skyrim but good

Should I download the kings field ps2 games and give them a whirl?

Yes, but not an open world. Just make a nice big interconnected world. From what I remember Kings Field IV had NPCs scattered around the world that would ask you to do quests for them, right?

They could make it VR, thus forcing it to be clunky and low budget looking again.

This is the only PS2 one, but, YES-- be warned it's a slow paced game with clunky combat. Everything else is amazing, though.

Shit I could've sworn at least 3 was too. I don't mind slow paced jank if its fun.

Demons souls WAS the successor to these games.

That's not what we're asking for or talking about here.

Eternal Ring had some great music too. This would sound a lot like Demon's Souls if it had a bigger budget.

This one's good too

Not him
I preferred Shadow Tower Abyss over kings field. The atmosphere and map design sucked me in more.

Deracine was in preparation for a King's Field revival
It's going to be VR, so will Armored Core 6

Shadow Tower Abyss is the best fromsoft game

fuck it I'll download them both

It's honestly really damn good. Unfortunately I dropped it months ago and forgotten where I was or what my goal was so I need to start over someday.

My problem with Shadow Tower is the weird contemporary setting seems kind of stupid. You use a gun and wear a bomber jacket, right?

You absolutely should. It's not a long game, probably sub 10 hours. It's all solid though.

I don't think FromSoft ever made an open world game so it would be kinda interesting to see one made by them, an interconnected world is another good idea but I think they would just go back to the hub world formula

The intro has you catch a ride on a boat with a ferryman, which is meant to symbolise Charon carrying you to the afterlife. It's a weird game though.

It'll be King's Field VR

I just see it as some Indiana Jones kind of thing. You're an explorer venturing through some ancient civilization.

You find weapons from all time periods. The idea is that you're travelling into a dungeon that people have been venturing into for thousands of years yet no one has ever returned form. You find guns and things like conquistador helmets all over the place.

>Shadow Tower is superior
Really? I didn't think so.

Wtf this is like dungeon synth

>soulsbaby has to insert his game into every one of these discussions
every time

Nah they'll never make a slow methodical dungeon crawler again, dark souls etc is the compromise for modern "gamers"
