Still no Celica GT-Four

Whi is this so fucking hard compared to Dirt 4?

Samir, what are you doing my friend.

VR is coming later on. Enough people complained about it not having it.

Dirt 4 was arcade.
This is my gripe, the car list is pretty poor for launch. I will wait and see what the roster looks like once all the DLC have launched.

>racing game #8943

I played RS2 and I really don't see why it's so acclaimed.

>tfw no PC version of Dirt 2
The fuck lads

.t cant handle rwd group b

is this the monthly racing vidya thread? i wanna dump some liveries i've made but only if this is the place.

what's it got over Dirt Rally?
yes there is, it's just not sold anywhere anymore

It's not. There's no other game which is nearly as simulationist in terms of rally racing.
It's genuinely a unique experience that requires you to think completely differently about how you drive and will probably result in you understanding how actual cars physically function far better.

did they fix the fucking online? I know it's not "realistic" but jumping into a course and fucking about with your friend is what made dirt 2 glorious, dirt rally's multiplayer was fucking useless it was like facing AI.

>plays racing sim with a controller

Any wheelfags in here? The FFB is so fucking shit in this game. Especially coming from DR1.

Is it possible to play these game well with a normal controller?

I have Dirt Rally 1 sitting here

Attached: 1546460454051.jpg (620x573, 50K)

Sure. Just lay off the throttle. For real, break early and take it slow.

No harm in trying. Prepare to rage because it won't be easy. I started DR1 with a 360 pad and it drove me to buy a wheel. Never looked back.

you don't need a steering wheel to be in the top few percentiles, but playing with a wheel is a whole different experience and when you get _really_ good wheels are better.

Attached: group B.jpg (936x593, 104K)

you can actually play most simracers with a pad, i got decent at AC using a pad, but a wheel is infinitely better. The two main frustrations will be.

-Hand cramp from how hard you have to concentrate on controlling the trigger for the throttle, throttle and brake input is easily the most important factor to driving fast in terms of inputs.
-Being unable to react fast enough to counter steer correctly when sliding, those minute micro corrections you can make with a wheel are impossible and you don't get proper feedback obviously.

>you don't need a steering wheel to be in the top few percentiles
You actually believe that?
kek

OH NONONONONONONONONO

Isle of mann TT is dark souls of racing games

I regularly get in the top 25% with an xbox 360 controller. On Dirt Rally 1 I'd get in the top 10% occasionally.

absolutely, and I wish there was a way for me to show my credentials.

How the fuck do you git gud at rain stages?

What platform are you playing on? Pretty sure leaderboards aren't cross platform.
What position was your top 10%? 3000? Get back to me when you post a top 250 time.

Seriously.
At night, the faster you go the harder it is to see because the rain appears denser. Co-driver isn't enough, I need radar.

It was on PC, around 200-300 on a weekly challenge. Considering how difficult it is to make corrections at 120mph with a thumbstick I'm happy with these results.

PC. 360 controller. No assists, no HUD.
Top 3000 is far below (as in worse than) what I would call "top few percentiles", I consistently do better.

>weekly challenge
And there you have it. You only get one shot at the daily/weekly events. I wouldn't consider those truly representative of top players best times. Granted, that's a good spot, but show me a top 250 time on a single track that's not a daily/weekly and using a controller.
Considering there may be 40,000 spots on the leaderboard(just picking a feasible number), 3000 would actually be better than 10%. If you aren't consistently posting top 500 times, you aren't in top tier IMO.

I've got some

Top DR times themselves aren't representative of how you play rally normally, they're the crazy end result of a LOT of grinding and use lines and techniques you wouldn't even think of using during normal rally because they're far too risky

>use lines and techniques you wouldn't even think of using during normal rally because they're far too risky
So...like a video game? What relevance does this have on using a controller over a wheel?

as if you have a headset, poorfag

>If you aren't consistently posting top 500 times, you aren't in top tier IMO.
I would agree. I feel sad when I go "wow, that was clean" and see my result is outside of top 200.
I don't know why you have such a hard time believing one can do well on a pad. FWIW I can't drive for shit on tracks in assetto corsa or do hillclimb in dirt with my pad, as precise steering at high speed is way more important in that kind of racing.

>I don't know why you have such a hard time believing one can do well on a pad.
I don't think this. Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then. I was saying a wheel will always outperform a pad. Especially by users of the same skill level.

I'm downloading it now but I have extremely low expectations. I've been following the online fiasco since the pre-release a few days ago and it seems like the devs are just retarded or don't give a fuck.

What? I'm talking about the game itself, if you play actual events and weekly challenges instead of treating it like a hotlapping game then a lot of this shit simply won't be viable since it's far too risky. Getting good at rally is all about consistency and knowing how to keep yourself under control instead of going all out, which helps make gamepad more viable, and the reason why using top leaderboard times isn't a good idea since it's full of those runs that players simply won't get with any kind of consistency

do you routinely get top 250 with your wheel?

post your liveries boi

i actually have less saved than i remember so this will be brief

Attached: 20181224124654.jpg (3840x2160, 1.19M)

FUCKING WHY EVERY FUCKING RALLY GAME DOES THIS TO ME GOD DAMMIT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

also i've posted most of these before but i doubt anyone remembers

Attached: 20180402165607.jpg (3840x2160, 1.24M)

I agree with some of the things you said. I've done some weekly/dailys and had worse times than my PB for hotlaps, yet placed higher on the leaderboards.

>Don't treat this like a hotlapping game
>Getting good at rally is all about consistency
Not trying to be an ass here. Looking for legitimate discussion, but the above seems contradictory. How do I get consistent at a stage without playing it over and over.

Consistently, no. I never claimed to be amazing at the game.

>show me a top 250 time on a single track
Being able to restrain yourself on one stage and going flat out on a safer one is half the sport.

>online fiasco
What?

It actually is.
If you crash, you have to start over from the beginning or retire. You have to take it slowly and learn the features in every country. For example the deep grass banks in Poland can suck you in like the snow banks in Sweden.

Attached: 20180717003739.jpg (3840x2160, 2.23M)

and finalé

Attached: 20180717003756.jpg (3840x2160, 1.8M)

Consistency at driving itself, that is how well you control the car, how well you can recover from mistakes, getting a sense of when you should be speeding up and when you should slow down and pay close attention to the codriver, etc. Eventually you'll get the courses fully memorized though since the game has so few locations but still, driving nice and clean with limited knowledge of the tracks is very much being good by rally standards imo. The top times though, that's something else entirely

at most you get punctured tire or broken headlights
still waiting for beamng physics where bad landing can destroy your car

>Consistency at driving itself
>FWIW I can't drive for shit on tracks in assetto corsa or do hillclimb in dirt with my pad, as precise steering at high speed is way more important in that kind of racing.
Not sounding smug, but I think you proved my point.

bad landings get you retired from the race (such as falling from a cliff)
sounds like you're just shitposting for sport and never actually played

You are only forced to retire if you take Terminal Damage. Most times you can reset your car on the track for a time penalty.
Sweden is a different story. Either the Snowbank Gods are on your side or they are going to shit all over you.

if so, either you misunderstood my point your point has changed since

Thats a great marketing strategy, have a (you)

Quite accurate
Dark souls are also rather slow paced and easy to drive

I'll admit my initial statement was a bit hyperbolized. I was trying to express that a wheel will out perform a pad. Do you think just because a player kills a high ranked player or wins a high ranked match at, say, CSGO or an arena FPS with a controller that a M&KB is unnecessary to be considered top tier in that respective game holds true?

This, but in GTSport

>Playing Rallisport Challenge in splitscreen with your friends in Group-B cars

Godbless the OG Xbox. Enormous fun.

>time penalty
40 second penalty for getting stuck in a ditch? Unless this is a weekly or monthly challenge I've put time into no thanks.

are you saying the penalty should be more or less?
DR2 has retarded penalties. Seems to be a flat 4s.
>drive off into a ravine?
>4s penalty
>kill a family of 4 spectating the race?
>4s penalty
its casual levels of penalty times now. don't know why they did this.

this isn't the argument I signed up for
I don't think gamepad vs wheel in a rally game is comparable to gamepad vs M&KB in an FPS. That gap is way larger.
I will agree a wheel being used optimally is better than a gamepad being used optimally, but there's a ton of space to improve in the game before your choice of controller will hurt you. If you want to become the best player in the world you should probably get good with the wheel. If you want to do top ~500 times you're more than fine with a gamepad.
The top 20 are lightyears better than the top 200, for those times you're probably going to want a full setup with a racing seat and VR or those ultrawide monitors.

>it drove me to buy a wheel
heh

Richard Burns Rally is the only rally game worth playing, still.

I guess this is where we differ.
If you've used a wheel before, you would know the gap can be just as large b/w pad and M&KB.
I cut ~15s off my PB when I first got my wheel. 15s is huge in DR; it's huge in any racing game honestly. This is before I became accustomed to the wheel so that gap widen even more.

Does this game have HDR?

Who cares?

The only company that does HDR properly is MS.

haha, console players.
