Since 3 party members should be the standard for the Mario & Luigi series going forward, who will take his place?

And it sucked since outside of a few bros items, you never actually controlled all four characters separately and the babies simply acted as an accessory and lifeline to the bros. The battle system from Paper Jam with a third simultaneous character with different mechanics should become the standard.

Bowser. Attacks work like BiS where each bro uses A and B while Bowser uses both X and Y. Combination attacks between Bowser and the Bros could be references to old Bowser fights like Mario spinning Bowser around by the tail to act as a fastball special.

Well I want Geno, but obviously that's not possible with the rights being as they are. I wish Nintendo buy the rights to SMRPG so we can get all those characters back.

Peach or Yoshi could work. Or heck, just have a partner system ala Paper Mario and let people choose.

Paper Mario. Make it like Sonic Forces where there's no reason to include Classic Sonic but they do it anyways. Paper Mario's games are already dead, and he's already made for RPGs, so it just fits.

His games wouldn't be dead if they hadn't ruined them. Super was okay, but sticker and color splash is irredeemable garbage. Go back to ttyd and original, you had it right the first time nintendo.

I had unironically hoped that the blue and yellow Toad Bros. could have been fleshed out as part of the main cast for M&L4.

I agree. Instead of making them playable characters, Wario and Waluigi should be the new rivals, like Popple and Rookie were in Superstar Saga. If they decide to have three party members at once, maybe they can do Bowser fighting alongside Mario and Luigi at once, Princess Peach, Yoshi, or even Geno.

I've never played this series before. Which ones are worth it?

Nobody. Cancel these games. It's a shame that Paper Jam arguably had the most interesting and best-executed battle mechanics in the entire series, but still ended up being absolute shit because of how sterile and poorly-paced everything was. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it because it felt just like Dream Team, which had enough flaws to be ignored in its own right.

Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen in the future.

Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story are universally agreed as the best M&L games, if not the best Mario RPGs.
