it was alright in KH1 before it became apparent that the story was taking itself seriously enough to the point where the plot actually mattered. KH1 is basically just an extended dream sequence, but then gradually the game starts throwing in more and more "ya see, Sora's heart was cloned and created a body of its own which created a copy heart of its own and traveled through time and possessed this guy" and blah blah blah which just makes you want to skip the stupid cutscenes

Aqua never gave into the darkness. If she had, she would have used a portal of darkness like all the other Organization members use. That's how Xemnas and Roxas were doing at the start of KH2. It's explained in KH1 that Mickey first entered
the dark realm by a dark portal which opened as a world fell to darkness when heartless over took it. The Kingdom Key D which is native to the dark realm, allows Mickey to open up portals to and from the dark realm, which is what him and Riku were doing at the start of KH3. Sora and Riku lucked out because they found Kairi's bottled message to Sora (it's explained that the Dark Meridian and Destiny Islands are separated by an ocean). Kairi's power as a princess of heart opened a portal for Sora and Riku to return home. Aqua was out of luck. In KH3, Ansem SOD sends Aqua to the 'abyss' which lies underneath the dark realm. Chronologically, this happens during DDD I think. People are basically undetectable if they go to this point. If Riku and Mickey hadn't have visited the Dark Meridian again looking for, she would have been stuck down there forever.

Kingdom Hearts is magical in that the appeal of the games is entirely based on the inexplicable likability of the characters. According to interviews the FF characters were only ever there so they didn't have to make OCs for the sole purpose of spouting exposition, which is what the FF guys are doing 99% of the time. Now the series has a million established side characters that can fulfill that purpose. I didn't see this much complaining when Days, BBS, DDD, etc. had little or virtually no FF representation because people act like the numbered entries have different rules than the """spinoff""" titles even though that's never been the case.

It's shonen syndrome. KH is written like a big modern shonen series, right down to the convoluted nature of the plot and character relationships. And as with most modern shonen, the female characters mostly exist as goals and antagonist fights, rather than actual characters that achieve things on their own besides the occasional side fight. Aqua was the exception to this for the longest time, but even she falls to this rule in 3.

Honestly they should include Star Wars and Marvel at this point. It sounds more interesting than visiting the fucking Hercules world for the upteenth time again, and Square's gotta attract a new and younger target demographic since the original player base is outgrowing or has outgrown the series.

kek, I can outdo both of you: My family was super strict with Yea Forums stuff growing up and would only let me use the cheaper handheld consoles. I got into KH by playing parts of it with friends and family and in middle school I figured everything out by watching cutscenes online. KH3 is the first KH game I played all the way through
