The same shit happened with Jak and Ratchet. 3D platformers were falling out of favor so we go these TPS/Platformer hybrids that don't really excel at anything. At least Ratchet had time and another full generation to flesh itself out as a solid TPS series, unlike Jak.

Pretty good overall. 4’s story and load times were big flaws.

Sly 2 has one of my favourite stories in gaming.

I loved it solid platforming interesting levels and locations it got too crazy with the minigames and got away from the stealth as it went on but i can understand they did it just so you can have more stuff to do I hope it gets another game but maybe with a different art style

My only issue with Sly 2 was they never brought back Clockwerk's actual VA to say anything and Clock-La wasn't as cool. But overall still a pretty sick story.

2 is the best. 3 was good when you played as Sly but it's a rushed mess bogged down with terrible minigames and half-baked characters. 4 was well-intentioned, but it controls like shit, the art style both in-game and in cutscenes is vastly inferior, the load times are terrible, the writing is kind of bad in places, and the levels aren't as well designed. Also fuck all motion control segments, and FUCK the QTE final boss.

1 is much more its own thing, but it's pretty good.

5 should bring back the 2/3 art style and try to make in-game look as much like that as possible. It should also follow the model of 2 pretty closely, but keep minigames confined to hacking (tanks and twin-stick shooter are both good), and keep the playable characters limited to Sly, Bentley, Murray, and maybe Carmelita.

I'm kind of glad the series got big enough to warrant sequels and comics but not big enough to develop into a bloated mess of a series. You'd probably like the general platforming mechanics and colorful art style.

It's not a complicated series, but if you're only going to give one game a shot make it the second one. I enjoyed the whole trilogy, but the first one's pretty different from the others. More of a linear tech demo of the ideas that are fully fleshed out in the sequel, whereas the third game gets a little more bogged down with the mini-games and relies on more past references to returning fan-favorite characters.

Never played the fourth personally. I'm generally told that the story's lackluster but the general mechanics are fine.

I saw it through to the end, I got every clue bottle in every world, I unlocked all the stuff on thiefnet, I even got all the treasures, and I had a thoroughly below-average time.

They did hire "low key" furry artists for 4, at least for the concept art. The problem is they had the guys doing the environment also model the characters, they all look bad.

Given that most people see Sly 4 as the worst of the series, if you had fun with it then the others are even better. Just know that 1's probably the most different in the entire series as they hadn't figured everything out yet.

A big problem with Sly 4 is how clunky it is to play. Sly 3, while an unfocused mess, has very tight mechanics for the main three playable characters. 4 made them worse than any of the first three games to control. Murray doesn't even get into a combat stance and automatically face enemies, so you constantly have to steer him and he's shit to play as. Nothing feels satisfying, whereas I enjoyed fucking around the hubs in Sly 3 since I could experiment with a full set of gadgets, significantly more complex than 4, and it felt responsive and satisfying to play.

The way they salve it over in the ending cutscene to chapter 4 of Thieves in Time is downright insulting, "oh he's over it now he's a better person because of it" FUCK YOU, Bentley worked his paralyzed ass off to get where he was and he comes out of it with nothing.

It was best as a Crash rip-off. Like J&D, the only good game in the series is the first one, and even that's not particularly good. I think the only people who like Sly 2 and 3 are those who grew up playing them. Trying to play through them now is exhausting, with the tedious traversal and all the unskippable dialogue/cutscenes for the story in a children's game. Most of the missions themselves aren't very interesting either.

this i have to agree it was the predecessor to Crash and I have played the Crash games first before moving on the PS2 games. Playing Ratchet & Clank and the other newer titles felt like they wanted to copy each other by being open world but Sly 1 tried to retain that same linear arcade one hit rule feel that the Crash Bandicoot series had. While I will admit Sly 2 had a better handling of the stealth gimmick it felt more better as just a standard platformer without too much dialog the first one had which fortunately you can skip unlike 2 & 3 (unless you have failed the missions which they skip the introductory entirely)

Don't be retarded. Traversing the maps as Sly is half the fun of these games. The hubs aren't that big either, going from one side of the map to the other takes no time at all, especially as you get more gadgets. It sounds like you're too used to fast travel in your games

Have you played a game that came out in the last 5 years? Sly's levels of unskippable dialogue is hardly comparable. Often it's a quick intro to a mission, a villain, the job overhaul, some banter thrown in and then the game starts. Also not sure why you need to emphasize it's a children's game, as if even M games aren't thought around the demographic of 13 year olds.
