What you need to realize is that the BBS Trio are reflections of the Destiny Island Trio narratively, but not in the way one assumes at first.

You see, Ventus has a Heart of Pure Light that comes from "another world" and befriends two Rivals. In other words he is the Kairi not The Sora. The narrative twist comes from how while Kairi knew to stay put after Hollow Bastion, Ventus ran straight into danger and fucked shit up even more since it meant x-Blade, which meant Kingdom Hearts, which set the stage for Xehanort to Body Jack Terra and Ventus himself needing to Sudoku himself.

Why do you guys irrationally hate Ventus so much? Did some guy name Vencuck warp your reality on things, or did you just never play BBS. Ven has some of the best interactions with characters in BBS and is filled with personality

I played BBS and hated it. The gameplay was terrible, Terra was slow and was an extremely weak character, but Lingering Will managed to be such a cool and stupid final scene that it left a somewhat decent impression on me.
Ven was spamming dodgeroll forever until I had Magnet + Thunder or Thunder Surge, and the character was insanely boring. He didn't do much that Sora didn't already do, and while he did have occasional jokes or quips, it wasn't enough to save the character.
Aqua had it the worst out of the three, easily. She was not only about as boring as it comes, but also had even more boring gameplay. By this point I was pretty fed up with the game.
The game would have benefited a ton by just focusing on one character. It feels like Terra and Ventus are the main characters of the plot, Aqua doesn't really belong much it felt like. Terra honestly could have just been Ventus' friend throughout the quest that got possessed for a quick playable moment, or perhaps assisting in the final boss, but that was it.
I don't really hate Ventus, I just think he's boring.

I do think that the staff wanted as well to make him playable, but couldn't. The whole KG felt very rushed, so they made his fight off-screen so they could add it later maybe.

It's not even that hard in terms of assets. Using the Yo-Yo as the basis for the whip transformation, Launcher for Ultima Canon and the Bow, Pegasus finisher for Glider.

My problem with Ventus is him being boring and bland Sora clone, that also took Roxas design.

Remove the design and make him more intresting, and he could've been alright.

Terra was the one who really would have been better off being edgy and fighting with his darkness, but even then he'd just be Riku to Ventus' Sora.
Cut Aqua out of the equation and make the story focus a lot more on Ventus and his weaknesses, as Master Xehanort had brought up. Ventus was a weak-kneed pussy ass bitch, and Terra could have acted a lot more like a big brother who unfortunately started getting swayed to the wrong side himself.

I can see that but every character in BBS has the same problem, even Terra until the moment he stops being Terra. People just dismiss Ven because he looks like Roxas and is nice, meanwhile he’s filled with personality in BBS more so than literally anyone else. People are just going off of memory most of the time when it comes to him and usually forget all the Disney stuff.

I think my main problem with characters is if they are active or reactive.

Reactive characters must be very well written to be intresting and entertaining. KH isn't well written at all. So, I prefer my entertainment.

Active characters on the other hand, can be fucking stupid and do mistakes (for example, outside of KH, Vegeta and his stupid stuff). Why? it's moving the plot. It much more fun and interesting.
Riku and Terra are amusing because of it. Watching Terra being a fucking retard, doing mistakes and trying to fix them is far more entertaining.
And oh boy he delivered in the ending of BBS.

Riku being a jealous prick and a total asshole is fun. Him trying to fix his shit and be a better person and actually active is far more fun.

Not really. They had some of the same struggles, but the key difference is how they got into the struggle.

Riku brought it upon himself with his jealosy, spite and outright being a prick to everyone. And I like it. He turned to be a far better character thanks to it.

He's an Anakin if Sheev killed Obi-Wan in front of him and Anakin decided instead to fight Sheev for revenge.

I honestly don't think he was even that bad.

A lot of people get annoyed with Terra, understandably. But really I think they should have gone further. The frustrating part is that he keeps saying he wants to do better and not get tricked yet still does so very easily. But then some worlds he just doesn't. There isn't a nice path, stuff like peter pan had been the second level instead of one of the later ones it would feel more consistent. So instead of all this bullshit, just have him be a fuck up who just thinks he is doing the right thing. You could even have fun with that idea, even though Disney would never allow it showing the bad side of the good guy characters in each world would give BBS a really neat twist. He leaves a blaze of carnage till the very end, doesn't even have to feel bad about it cause the best KH characters tend to be massive assholes.

Instead he just feels floppy, but a floppy Terra is still better than Ven.

They tried making a Riku clone in BBS but struggled writing him since it took multiple games for Riku’s pay off. They tried doing it in one game with Terra which makes it extremely rushed and a poor job at it. I don’t get why people like this character, they couldn’t even come up with a unique concept for him.

I "fell in love" with how vengeful, powerful motherfucker Lingering Will was, and was really, really hyped for BBS back then.

I thought at first he's an idiot and was kinda disappointed, but the more I thought of it while playing, it made perfect sense.
He was a trusting, naive and sheltered guy who didn't saw himself as an evil person, and then everyone kept calling him evil for something that he can't even control and the more he try to not use it, people keeps on blaming him. His father figure introduced him to Xehanort, and he trusted him because of it. Xehanort kept praising him and "showing trust" in him, treating him like an equal.
Of course, untill he realised that he was manipulated. All that trust and admiration breaking apart and he wanted nothing but to to kill Xehanort. Even after Xehanort takes everything from him, he just breaks apart from his heart and body and finally turned into that vengeful warrior. But at that point I could only feel so fucking bad for him for wanting this to happen. The actual thing that hit me hard the most is his actual ending. Just staying there. Alone. Rotting in his own armor for over a decade. Keep on swearing how one day he will set this right.

Maybe it's started with how I used to like edgeshit, but now it's more about this insane determination.

Yup, that's how it goes in the intro. Riku and Sora are being swallowed by the darkness, but Sora resists whereas Riku embraces it and tries to invite Sora to hold in. Sora ends up getting the keyblade mere seconds later and is able to defeat the Heartless on Destiny Islands.

Honestly the whole game felt like that. There was this weird "space" in between every single line like the whole game was just an elaborate animatronic show or something. I felt like I was crazy until I saw some youtuber talking about it and you can clearly see the difference even between BbS and KH III in terms of "pacing" the dialogue

I think Numora & co. finally realized what a clusterfuck the Xehanort saga became and that's why KH3's story feels so fucking rushed and half assed. Numora clearly doesn't want to deal with it anymore and I wouldn't be surprised if the next game is a soft reboot of the story if the secret ending was anything to go by. The Xehanort shit is done and over with, just get rid of Org.XIII and the wayfinder trio so they can start fresh with a new clusterfuck saga that draws in a new generation of gamers.
