Nintendo is shitposted here to death, but yet rarely there is a mentioned thing about the game prices.
Every game can be bough on PC/PS4/XBOXe for half a price or lower after few months. In November I bough God of War, Detroit and Spiderman for 60euro together.
But Nintendo? Their games are like full price forever. Its off putting because few games will cost you the same as the whole console.

Nintendo's games retain their value because they sell well throughout the console's lifespan.
With PS4 and Xbone games, people tend to preorder them and purchase them mainly at launch, so they'll have an initial burst of sales then they have to lower the price to keep people buying the game.

Doesn't make it any better that Nintendo doesn't allow you to refund e-shop games.

It's okay when Nintendo is greedy. This is Yea ForumstendoGaf.

The excuse used to be they were higher quality games. Then the Wii era happened. The excuse became they don't do DLC, then Wii U era happened. The excuse briefly became no paid online or season passes. Wonder what it the excuse will be now.

Nintendo's games stay the same price because they're marketed towards children and made for children, and the parents don't know enough to know it's a rip-off.

/thread

>Wonder what it the excuse will be now.
Something you probably made up again.

Explain why all the Wii U games stayed full price for the consoles entire life then. Only about 4 people bought that console so they can't have been selling well.

change.org/p/nintendo-lets-get-baby-mario-in-super-smash-bros-ultimate

>Explain why all the Wii U games stayed full price
Because only ones that sold well like smash and Mario kart did, everything else had severe cuts.
I myself bought a new version of the AC board game with the two amiibo for £5.

Reminder that the Switch port for DKC Tropical Freeze was more expensive than the original game.

The only problem I have with Nintendo is when they release shit like pic related and charge full price. The same thing will happen with Links Awakening. Game literally looks like a 3ds game that they remade for Switch and it will also be sold for $60.

games only make a profit, when they are sold on full-price
everything lower, and they don't have any profit, anymore

They're jews, simple as that.

The new Mario Party game is an absolute rip off. Only 4 boards and they are tiny. What the hell were they thinking? Also would it have killed them to put in an option that lets you make stars more expensive?

seething

Nintendo's whole thing is replayability. It may seem chidish or selfish of a developer to say this but, Aonuma stated that when it came to Breath of the Wild, he actually did want players to "play it about the same amount of time that we took in making it, about two or more years".

Nintendo are jews.
Always have been.

>not knowing how amazon works

The games sold proportionally with how the console sold.

Because they sold. MK8 sold like 8 million copies on 12 million WiiU consoles. It sold another 12 on switch. Nintendo games sells well and continue doing so, no need to drop the price to squeeze more sales.

Zelda, Mario, Smash, and Mario Kart I can understand being full price but stuff like Mario Tennis, Pokken, Pokemon lets go, Mario Party and NSMBU are not the same value.

no, the main difference is that other platforms don't have the luxury of an apologist fanbase with no standards like nintendo does. they actually have to compete on price and generate consumer goodwill through sales.

What are you basing that value on exactly?
Because it seems like you're basing it purely on popularity rather than what's in the games themselves.

Because you are comparing used second hand games to retail priced games retard-kun.

If you want to dismantle capitalism be sure to vote for your local socialist party next election, comrade.

I understand the sentiment, but yes, the idea is ridiculous to entertain seriously. I think the argument that "Nintendo games sell really well" is a stale one. So do big AAA games on other systems. The key difference that Nintendo has a dearth of physical games, and competes mainly with itself. As people have mentioned, there are no good reasons ports should cost $60, and to an extent I'd say even short games like Kirby or Mario Tennis Aces. I am worried the new Yoshi will get the same treatment of a really short, vanilla game mode on launch, and subsequent free DLC to pad out things. I think if Nintendo wants to keep people playing for a long time, a trophy system can do wonders. I am sure people are willing to find 900 fucking Korok seeds if they know other people online can see that.

>So do big AAA games on other systems.
Not really, they sell well either because they're bundled or have severe price drops soon after release. Rarely do they ever sell on their own.

People don't trade in Nintendo games as often as games for other systems. It makes me fucking livid when I see a used copy of a ds Pokemon game, missing it's box, being sold for 30+ dollars.

Attached: 1547780555328.jpg (960x960, 294K)

>a trophy system can do wonders.
Not if psn is anything to go by.

Replayability or game length. Take Mario Tennis for example. Sure the gameplay is fun but the story mode is short, has less modes/features than previous games and the online is terrible.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that Switch games are so expensive because the cartridges themselves are expensive. The problem I see is how the digital games have the same price than their physical versions, so I'm not so sure.

>thinks game that didn't sell well will eventually go down in price
>barely anyone selling their copy on ebay
>now it's fucking 150$
fucking gotcha force

The cut the price like crazy for Tropical Freeze I heard for the Wii U

First party titles go on sale pretty frequently throughout the year. Every single time they do, you morons start shitposting that it still isn't cheap enough. There's literally no winning with you faggots.

I don't know about your country, but in my country it's the stores who set the price. Neither Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft dictates how much a game should cost

$20 off a 2017 game isn't much. I have literally never seen a first party game be at least half-price.

>new cinematic AAA 3rd person over-the-shoulder SJW walking simulator is announced
>millions of retards preorder it full price
>two months after release price drops
>by that time everyone bins or shelves it
>this somehow shows a competetive market when every release is extremely scheduled to regularly reel in retards

That's the case in most countries.

>half a price
Fuck off ESL

This. I've tried like four indie games on the eShop and they have all been fucking terrible. Not good enough to play more than a single time. I wish they would just take all that shit off the store. I can't imagine half those games even sell 100 copies.

the only thing keeping me from being upset about nintendo game cart prices is that they're the only people that use physical media that isn't cheap disposable disks
though I won't hesitate to admit that taking save files off the cartridges is a huge detractor on the switch, I still prefer a nice reliable 3DS/switch cartridge to a cheap bluray disk

They are longsellers. Look at Mario Kart, Breath la of The Wild, Splatoon. Still selling great. Games like God of War are hyped for some time and then disappear.

>I've tried like four indie games on the eShop
Which games?

This is our board now white boy

>two months after release price drops
meanwhile, garbage shovelware like 1-2-switch is still $50. when western aaa is more consumer-friendly than you, there's a problem.

Nintendo games are liquid assets.
Snoy games are junk bonds.
Xbox games already delisted.
PC games are services.

That games paired with the dlc no?
Just like Mario kart deluxe

I know you don't like Nintendo, but you are lying to yourself if you think that being consumer friendly is a consideration for any of these companies.
Nintendo keeps their prices high because their games keep selling at full-price, and it discourages people from waiting for a sale. If other companies had long legs like that they would be doing the same thing.

I'm on my lunch break at work so I'm not able to check.

One was this 2d platformer with a bunch of heavy metal where you go right and kill monsters. It probably had hell in the name. No point in playing that since I could just play my MegaMan X collection.

The other was some shitty multiplayer beat em up where you could move up and down like in the old arcade games, with an aesthetic of dark souls but with a garbage indie budget.

I got knights of pen and paper or something 1 and 2 also for 20 dollars. The sequel is good enough to be worth playing, but certainly not for the 20 dollars I paid.

I don't even remember the last one. Sorry for how unhelpful this post was. Long story short, just like the Steam store, the eShop is literally filled with cheap shit garbage. Buying anything for the switch besides 1st party Nintendo shit is a mistake.

I hate having to wade through tonnes of garbage flashgame indie shit on the eshop just to find the first parties. They should be divided into different sections

It's also worth noting they have content the original doesn't have.

Gotcha Force sucks though

except nintendo has a quality standard that it always meets which is how it developed its insanely dedicated fanbase in the first place, so yeah, no.

This is the big hangup for me.
Playing PS3/360/early and undemanding gen 8 games on a handheld on top of Nintendo exclusives? Sounds nice.
Paying full price for them? No fucking thank you.

Almost all of the multiplat games that I can get for 60 on the Switch are 20 elsewhere, and the games that are 20 on the Switch are 5-10 elsewhere. Sometimes even lower.

The fucking base price of DOOM is 20 dollars on PC, the cheapest I can get it for right this second 16.79, the cheapest it has ever been is 6.60.
The Switch version is currently 60 dollars on the eshop, 60 dollars on Amazon, and the cheapest it has been sold for is 30 dollars. Which is a whole 10 dollars more than the STANDARD price of the PC version which runs WAY better. Shovelware on Switch goes for 5 dollars or so, on other platforms you can get DOOM for just over 5 dollars if you're patient.

Nintendo games are already fucking expensive and then they somehow managed to make it worse on Switch. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is 10 dollars more on Switch than it EVER was on WiiU. There are less features than the WiiU online while now being paid. And Nintendo has picked up the money grubbing DLC habits of the rest of the industry. So now you have all the standard industry bullshit they used to avoid ON TOP of the whole "Nintendo game is still full price half a decade+ after launch" bullshit they're known for. And the worst part is that the never going down in price problem has extended to third parties on Switch as stated earlier.

The whole value proposition of the Switch is fucked from top to bottom. The Nintendo tax is pure bullshit.

>but yet rarely there is a mentioned thing about the game prices.

stop being new

literally this.

They didn't, the console's best two games, Wonderful 101 and Tropical Freeze, both got major price cuts

>The Nintendo tax is pure bullshit.
You do realise they go by the standard price, right?

>I know you don't like Nintendo
i like many of their games. i don't like their business practices.
>Nintendo keeps their prices high because their games keep selling at full-price
which is because they know their fanbase will always pay up and give them a free pass. being an uncritical fanboy for a corporation isn't a good thing and goes against your own self-interest as a customer.
>If other companies had long legs like that they would be doing the same thing.
the "long legs" excuse is pure bullshit when even shovelware like 1-2-switch that nobody ever cared about is still obscenely overpriced to this day.

>which is because they know their fanbase will always pay up and give them a free pass
Eh not really, if they put it bad games they'll be happy to let it fail. The only series you won't see that happen to is pokemon because it's gone well beyond video game popularity.

>if they put it bad games they'll be happy to let it fail.
in reality, nintendo does put out some bad games and still charge full launch prices for them years later, and fanboys defend this with literal corporate shill talking points such as "nintendo games all have long legs."

>the "long legs" excuse is pure bullshit when even shovelware like 1-2-switch that nobody ever cared about is still obscenely overpriced to this day.
You mean the game that sold 200k last quarter?

>nintendo does put out some bad games and still charge full launch prices for them years later,
Not really, those ones always go down in price fairly quickly.

If you don't like the fucking thing, don't buy the fucking thing instead of crying Nintendo doesn't give you free games.

>Sony, Microsoft, and Steam discount their games as a service to the consumer
Fucking lol. The market sets the price. Supply equals demand. Take any entry econ or business course to learn this.

This

>Buying anything for the switch besides 1st party Nintendo shit is a mistake.
Not him but there are some genuinely good indie stuff. Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, Overcooked 1, Overcooked 2, etc.

The 2d one is Slain. It’s a nice game

Nintendo can sell their games at whatever prive they want, you calling them obscene is a subjective qualification that means nothing. You have thousands of other games to play.

Sony's games sell off marketing. No one will buy them after launch so stores are forced to discount them. Nintendo games sell off word of mouth. People hear splatoon is good online so they go and buy it over a year after it has come out.

Socialize the bing bing and the wahoos!

Nah, I like Nintendo games too, but the other companies properly follow the philosophy that there are people that won't buy a product until it is a certain price where they think its worth it. With this strategy they will ensure that they keep a steady revenue of cash flow even if their profits aren't too high with each sale. Nintendo consoles only really have their exclusives to purchase so they don't really have to make competitive pricing since people only really are buying their games on their platform and not much else. They take advantage of this and the fact their main target audience is parents/oblivious children/apologists, which results in many prices staying near full price unless they do Nintendo selects a few years later or the rare seasonal sale.

>Buying anything for the switch besides 1st party Nintendo shit is a mistake.
That's the mistake you casuals always make along with not doing any research.

You don't really believe that do you?

See thats where you're wrong.
Nintendo is the Disney of video games.
All people have to do is look for that Nintendo logo and BOOM! Instant sell and trust.

>WE WANT FREE SHIT.
Find a way to erradicate scarcity, pilgrim.

If this game was a collection of all the New Super Mario games then maybe I can see it being worth the $60

Mario Tennis has way better brand value than Splatoon 2. Guess which one sold more. People buy Nintendos games for the quality not the brand.

this is unironically fake news in the US. their games do go on sale. I realize not everyone on this board lives in the US though so I'm sorry your country sucks, OP

1-2-switch is still $50, super mario party is still $60, pokemon legpiss is still $60.

>Nintendo is the Disney of video games.
Nintendo is the Nintendo of video games user, their philosophy and actions are unique to them.

Nintendos games sell more at a higher price. Other companies games need enormous price drops to sell. Two possibilities
1.Nintendo makes better games
2.EA and Sony truly love you and want you to pay them less money for their products

Just pirate the games if you find them too expensive.

user, they have sold millions.
I get you don't like them but they can't be considered bad games in the same way color splash and AC Amiibo Festival.

The game is already made, though. All of the costs have already been paid. It makes economic sense to continue gradually decreasing the price over time to capture potential customers who would never buy the game at $60 but might at $30 or $20. All of the people willing to pay full price do so in the first year or two

>2.EA and Sony truly love you and want you to pay them less money for their products

the correct answer is #3: nintendo fans accept greedy business practices more than anyone else due to their uncritical brand loyalty.

3, Nintendo fagboys are huge corporate cocksuckers, such that even Apple drones look sane in comparison.

Now the next time you release a sequel a portion of the people who would've paid $60 are going to wait for a decent discount.
Congratulations, you just killed Deus Ex.

Then why are they the first to criticise Nintendo fairly?

Then why do other publishers only lower their prices after millions of sales

Wouldn't they start with lower prices if they weren't greedy

This shit is 80$ here last time I looked

Lol Nintendo can shit in a box, call it a new console and it would sell millions

See: Wii, Switch

Okay? How does that prove your point?

they aren't. nintendo has sold out to paid dlc, paid online, mobile gacha shit, they've even dabbled in microtransactions with the badge arcade. all the modern cash grabs that nintendo used to be above doing, they've sold out to all of them now and still get a free pass.

>A FUCKING LEAF

>they've sold out to all of them now and still get a free pass.
By being fairly criticised, weighed against the competition and having its final value being determined accordingly?
That's not how a "free pass" works. A free pass would be calling GoW 2018 a good game despite being the antithesis of the God of War series.

>DS games from 2009 still go for like 30 bucks
I know $30 isn't a lot but still, what the fuck

Attached: IMG_dzm0yr.png (447x291, 4K)

>By being fairly criticised
funny joke.
>A free pass would be calling GoW 2018 a good game despite being the antithesis of the God of War series.
botw is the antithesis of the zelda series. did you also complain when that won goty?

>botw is the antithesis of the zelda series
In what way?
Just like previous games there's a focus on exploration and puzzle solving, the only difference is that it's open world which still isn't a far cry from Zelda 1 which was fairly open itself. That said some things like item based progression have been changed but it's not enough of a change to call it the antithesis of zelda.

Meanwhile GoW 2018 not only is far more cinematic but has less emphasis on platforming and combat to the point where Kratos can't even jump or perform true aerial combos outside of cutscenes and whatnot.

>did you also complain when that won goty?
No? I don't really care about GoTY awards, why did you think that was relevant.

Why Nintendo games are worth $60 to me - I've already played through Mario Odyssey 6 times so far and still enjoy it. Please tell me an EA or Ubisoft game where you can say the same.

>Please tell me an EA or Ubisoft game where you can say the same.
Rayman Legends?

Pretty much why I haven't gotten a switch even though I really want one for the portability convenience and the interest of many of the switch games. I'm not a rich man and getting a switch with Nintendo current business practices is just not a good investment for me. Which is why I love the PC platform so much, steam sales have been a godsend and pirating games is also a good option to try out games I would enjoy without wasting my money, pirate a game and buy it if I enjoy and don't if it's crap. But so far many of Nintendo games I enjoyed have always been on emulators for example many wii games on dolphin botw on cemu and currently Mario on yuzu. But I honestly would prefer to buy the console itself and the games but with how Nintendo handles the prices, I just don't find myself actually getting the switch for now. This has been especially painful after seeing astral chain.

I get Mario Odyssey being $60, it's all these spin off games and Wii U ports being full price that bothers me.

Yes Canada is a shitty country. Hopefully my province separates soon
