Advance 2 is ok. I've heard great things about 4. But 2 is one of the best monster raising games ever. Monster Rancher 2 was so deep in all of the mechanics, and I love that the game let me be a slave master to the monsters and not give a fuck if they died or not.

Anyone ever play Monster Rancher Evo? I was debating trying it because the 3 vs 3 looks kinda neat.

I love how much I learned when I got the internet. I knew nothing of stress and wondered why my monsters always died early. Then I learned the mint leaf technique and raised 2 monsters to beat the Big 4.

Me. It legit was the best monster raising game and there are things it did that just now other games started to finally do as well. Even simple shit as monster riding had gone MIA until Monster Hunter Stories.

Monster Rancher when it was good was better than all of them. The rest tried to be RPGs, save for a couple Digimon game, but Monster Rancher was a deep management sim coupled with an awesome way to get monsters

They can exist in tandem. They are two totally different games, but they are two of the best games in the series.
Advance 2 and DS are just 2-lite. This is spoken from someone who imported MFDS (which never came to the US. We got MFDS 2, which was just called MRDS)

Pokemon copied Dragon Quest V and that was it. That game did not focus much on each monster and Pokemon did the exact same.
I love Dragon Quest, but the influence it had on Pokemon was fucking terrible, instead of having your monsters interact with the environment, you get equivalents of DQ items such as torches, keys, boats, and underwater access, except its a monster move. Instead of having personalities change how your pokemon act and what moves its good at, you just get Dragon Quest III's personality sets the stats system.
Pokemon don't matter in the mainline Pokemon games, they are just a step above items. The few Pokemon mainline games that actually made an effort to make the monsters feel like unique entities are also the ones most people consider the best.

Honestly, its was a pretty bad one.

Monster Rancher and Digimon had the games be about raising monsters, but the show's plot was was about adventures and fighting. Nothing like the game, and unlike Digimon, the story isn't as interesting.

Yeah, there really isn’t much interaction with each Pokemon desu, they’re just tools you get to fight other pokemon. Monster rancher has always been more about raising, training and taking care of your chosen monster.

2 and 4, they are the absolute best of the series
Every single game has its own unique quirks and also flaws, so they are all WORTH playing
3 Can't really be emulated though.

2 emulates perfectly on ePSXe including Disc Switching so you have the ability to get any monster you want. There's TONS of monster breeds that they NEVER revisit again (Zilla, Wracky, Worm, etc.). 4 emulates well, even though it has good graphics for its release date, but disc switching is iffy. However, there is a system for getting monsters within the game through adventuring, so no problem

so mobiles main selling point is collecting so either clothes and items for a monster or types of monsters both go against the the MR model unless people are okay with their monster dying and them "wasting" money on it. unless there is some way to carry over these items from monster to monster then we might have a game.
They could just not try the gacha thing and make an actual pet raising simulator on mobile which would work

it's tough to make a show out of only the ranching part, though, so it's not hard to see why the anime was more of an adventure-focused series.

the retarded thing is that they already tried phones games, 3 of them in fact. never used any of the technology on phones and they were garbage.
Tecmo could have easily brought back barcode battling or used QR codes but nope it was just gacha.
They could have also done a budget game on 3ds/vita, the thought never crossed their mind.
