Xenoblade 2 is overrated, but it's not bad mind you. The reason why it has such a following is that fans of Xenogears and Xenosaga need to cling to a new game since Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade X were so bad, so then Xenoblade 2 comes along which is slightly acceptable so people pretend it's the best thing ever because it's the only competent Xeno in over a decade.

I sometimes feel bad for XC1 only fans. That game has so little to do with Xeno that it almost wasn't even called it. Then XCX and XC2 came out and it's so far from what they were expecting that they're really bitter about it because most of them only played XC1 first with no prior knowledge of Takahashi's stuff. They don't realize that XC1 is actually the one that's most different.

Greater narrative =/= deep narrative
Xeno games all share similar themes and plot threads although they aren't directly connected, forming a greater narrative. XB1 just happened to not have as much similar themes or plot threads (this is not to say it had none at all). XB2 came along and expanded on a bunch of XB1's ideas to make XB1 feel more in line with the namesake.
You can say "Xeno is just a name, it means nothing," which is officially true since Takahashi says it's just his brand. However every game now shares the same basic ideas narratively, philosophically and thematically.

What annoys me the most about this game is that it seems as though the devs purposefully made it as frustrating as possible to 100%. Building trust becomes a tedious grind of spamming items for 40 minutes. You need a guide open at all times to know where anything is. Rolling rare blades comes down to RNG of 0.1% at times.
It's like a big fuck you to people who want to play past the end boss, and people will defend all this shit with

So I have to spend an extra 100+ hours to make it feel slightly less grindy to complete everything? Just fuck this game, and that's not even taking into consideration the plot and characters.
Xenoblade 1 never had anything as tedious as half the shit in this game to 100%. The worst was getting Black Liver Beans or whatever but that was mildly frustrating if anything. It doesn't come close to the tedium of spamming merc missions to complete Ursula's affinity chart.

My issue is that pretty much all Xenoblade games are toothless games.

Now I'm not going to pretend like Saga and Gears weren't flawed, but at least they had an ambition of delivering something even if they failed at it. They were great games in spite of their failings because they tried to hit above their weight and you could feel how fascinating some of the things were even if it wasn't displayed properly in front of you.

Xenoblade 1 & 2 are absolutely none of that. They are competent at what they do, they are pretty much complete games, they are just not fascinating. It's the "Tales of" of Nintendo, comfort food shonen stories about friendship, love and some sci-fi backloaded into the last hours of the game. It's better than Tales of, it's a good time, but it's still fundamentally uninteresting.

At the end of the day I'd rather replay the first hours of Xenosaga roaming a space ship with no music rather than going monster hunting and scavenging rare loot for hours by circling around. They're time wasters, not great experiences.

Everybody praises Chapter 4 for being the "70s mecha throwback" chapter and posts the Rosa theme for essentially being a 70s anime opening, but nobody ever talks about Alba Cavanich's day theme straight-up sounds like a modernized 70s-early 80s space opera anime soundtrack.

Fucking Tantal and Mor Ardain fields theme are overrated as fuck. True Earkino is found in Alba Cavanich, Uraya Night/Day and Fonsa Myma Night.

I tried to play that once a few years ago and got stuck in a rock early on and didn't feel like going back like 30 minutes.

Wow, a bunch of floating isles, that surely is easy to turn into open world.

Gonna be honest here and say that I'm not getting into this game just so the characters feel foreign and unknown when I masturbate to them. I can't masturbate to characters I've invested gameplay time in, so these Xenogirls will do great.
