Tomb Raider series is now on sale for pennies. Which ones should I get? I thought about the first four games. I heard Chronicles isn't good and Dark Angel is shit of course. Are Anniversary, Legend and Underworld worth checking out?

Chronicles a bit too short and buggy on the last mission, otherwise it fine.
AoD is really underrated, worth a try for sure.
LAU trilogy is good, you should get them for sure.
Emulate them, the PC ports are fucking atrocious.
This is simply wrong.
I have them on Steam
>No controller support
>Completely fucked keybindings that are a massive pain in the dick to change
>3 has no audio most of the time
>No widescreen, only runs in its native resolution
>Therefore no Fullscreen windowed mode
So I emulated them and got all of that much easier than otherwise. There is literally no reason not to emulate them.
I can only speak for the first four games, but the first 2 games are classics and definitively holds up if you have the patience.
If you really want more tomb raiding after those, 3 and 4 are just more of the same with a few minor tweaks here and there.
>No controller support
Use xpadder or any equivalent, I fixed it with steam big picture mode
>Completely fucked keybindings that are a massive pain in the dick to change
The menu is a little weird but I had no problem changing them
>3 has no audio most of the time
Gog version has all the audio restored, not sure why you would use the steam version, but if you do there should be a fix online for it
>No widescreen, only runs in its native resolution
Just like on console? There is a setup where you can set the resolution fairly high, if you want true widescreen there's a hack online for it
>Therefore no Fullscreen windowed mode
I think the fourth one did actually, for the others you might need dxwind
1-3 and maybe the Last Revelation might be better off emulated since their PC ports are a bit of a pain to get running at an optimal level, dunno about AoD.
Legend is best played with the “Next-gen Content” setting turned off as it doesn’t work right on PC (and it looks like absolute ass anyway).
Anniversary is a bit of a trade off you can have 60+ FPS gameplay but it’s based off the PS2 version of the game so it’s missing the better graphics from the Xbox 360/PS3 releases, Underworld’s port is fine last I heard, though keep in mind that the story DLC is still Xbox 360/One exclusive.
>Use xpadder or any equivalent, I fixed it with steam big picture mode
xpadder is literally more of a pain in the ass to set up than an emulator. There is literally no reason at all to not emulate it. It is easier, faster, and better in every way.
There were some official bonus levels released for the PC versions of TR 1 and 2 back in the day, that might be a good reason to play them.
I played gog version, applied multipatch(there was something wrong with music order for TR2) and voila.
If you have a PSP I HIGHLY recommend playing anniversary on that. It’s a great handheld game. They even managed to get the ragdoll physics on it.
I mean sure, the ps1 version is fine if you don't want to configure anything.
But the PC version looks a little better, you don't have to look at the textures warping (due to lack of z-buffer) as they tend to do on the psx.
But to each their own
Does Anniversary, Legend and Underworld have a ongoing storyline or can I pick any of them without a fear that I won't understand the plot?
Which game from these three is the best?
They created legend, then while they started to work on continuation of it(underworld), they were assigned of making anniversary. In the end they shoehorned Natla from anniversary into underworld.
These games are different, I'd pick anniversary, but better to get whole trilogy.
retard
on sale where?
On Steam, where else?
anniversary, legend, underworld, nu-lara 1. Those are the only ones worth a buy.
>Nu-Lara 1
kek
this user is right, pc versions aren't worth the trouble. emulate with retroarch beetle psx hw core for best results. it even cleans up the ps1 texture warp and has solid 30 fps. definitely the best way to play the originals
see
texture warping on ps1 emulation is solved
Looks pretty good, I stand corrected
So, let sum this up.
Don't buy the orginal five games on steam. Their pc ports are shit and it's better to emulate them or play on orginal ps1.
LAU trilogy is worth checking out on pc.
Right?
anniversary is great, underworld is decent, i thought legend was janky and shit but other people seem to like it
you might have luck with pc version, i just had huge trouble getting keybinds to play well with ps3 controller. tried autohotkey, joy2key etc. if it works then the pc versions are great visually. i think tr1 pc version has inferior audio (static soundtrack instead of dynamic + ambience)
