You are an NPC in an RPG

>you are an NPC in an RPG
come up with game mechanics that compliment this premise

I run a tea stall, of which the only reason of existing is for new players to steal from to grind a pointless skill. I have a sad life.

I saw someone with a NPC wojack decal on their car the other day. it was a very strange encounter seeing it out in public.

you work an office job and then go home and watch reality tv, make a crap dinner, try to get some tinder dates, fail, go to sleep

I created the meme

I am an NPC in an RPG.
I will come up with game mechanics that compliment this premise.

no i did :)

You're a potion seller
Game revolves around you crafting powerful potions and convincing the player character that they're too weak to use them

How are you supposed to play a game where you play an NPC thus you aren't playing the NPC thus you can't play the game?

shut the fuck up reddit shit

Fed up with your lot in life, your objective is to fuck with the "player character" as much as possible, given the limited degrees of freedom you have in your NPC role. The game would be divided into stages with different scenarios and you'd be graded on how much you manage to antagonize the "player". For example, one level might revolve around the player attempting to traverse a town for the first time. As a random village NPC, your main goal would be to block the player's exploration by wandering into their path or stopping them from entering and exiting buildings.

Sad thing is this probably isn't even bait

story doesn't revolve around you, you witness the protagonist doing heroic things, while you're on the sideline

To get the best weapons, you start a quest that begins with the main hero sucking my dick.

That's called a film user.

most sony games then

be a guard patroling the streets. see hero protagonist. tell him about the time i took an arrow to the knee.

I believe you

his post or what his post is about?
Because his post is pretty believable.

Recettear sort of does this, but Weapon Shop De Omasse is a fantasy NPC game, since you make weapons for adventurers

Okay so you make bait threads and the more replies you get the higher your score

A roleplaying, strategy and management game where you are the hero's follower and you must manage their stuff such as food, potions, equipment, etc. You have different skills such as cooking, crafting, bartering, strength and each one of those will affect the quality of the food, armour/weapons , how cheap can you get stuff and how much stuff you can carry. As you improve your skills, you can follow better heros and go on harder missions.

Capitalism ho?

You are the town mayor. You must distribute all the dialogue in the script associated with your town to the NPCs within it, in preparation for the hero arriving. You have only a vague idea of where the hero will be coming from and what he will be doing, but it is your responsibility to distribute as much (or as little) dialogue as necessary to help him complete his tasks. You must use what little you know to help direct him.

The hero will wander around, talking to people and getting busywork done; you will know what tasks he is trying to complete (shopping for armor, following up on a quest, trying to get advice etc) and what things he already knows (if there's a shop, if there's a bad guy, etc). Dialogue will include things like directions or hints (ie "The shop up north has low prices!", "I heard old man Jenkins wanted a new hat.", or "Doesn't it seem like the pub is unusually quiet?"). These will influence the hero's direction based on what he is after and what he knows (ie if he doesn't know where the shop is, he must be directed to it). Things like funny dialogue, boring dialogue or worldbuilding etc will encourage the hero to speak to more or less people based on what kind of hero they are.

Various different scenarios, win conditions & requirements exist to spice this up. For instance
>you must assign movement behaviour in some levels as well
>everyone is under a mage's spell except you; use dialogue to warn the hero so he can save everyone
>the evil lord is offering you money to stall the hero as long as possible
>the player is a Valve-playtester level moron, and will fail the moment he stops finding relevant information
>some characters are harmful and will initiate combat when spoken to; you'll want to place them differently if you want the hero to succeed or not

I call it "Line, Please! What Do I Say To The Hero?!"

Yes

Be some annoying piece of shit mob that aggroes from 1km and pulls every other mob nearby at the player while having annoying spells that make the player miss 50% of his attacks

I tell you how many of each collectible you have, but don't tell you where or what area.

I hold a staring contest

I'm a guard that stands next to a cliff. The players learns that he can push enemies by pushing me over the edge.
You think you're sad?

I do the same thing over and over until I see someone doing whatever they want with wild abandon. This confuses and/or enrages me so I become his enemy/try to sell him some weapons/tell him key plot information.

I am a knight but my weapons are weak and break when they come in contact with an enemy

Kill yourself for doing so

fishing level?

Aren't we all user, aren't we all...

You're in the business of acquiring artifacts and magic items to sell to adventurers.
You manage low level explorers and thieves to get your stock while dealing with cutthroat competition.
Your goal, by fair means or foul, is to get enough desirable stock to retire before the Hero saves the world and ruins your business's boom.
