linearity is a negative quality
however, accepting it as a limitation can mean significantly better story, pacing, environments, etc. which could make the game much better overall
this does not mean linearity is inherently positive
thanks for listening and stop being a retard

>linearity is inherently bad but it can be good

then its inherently neither user, it can go either way

Were you dropped?

has anyone said this? I thought most people preferred linear games and hate open world ones

In the mid gen 7 era everyone wanted an open world and "play it your way" type stuff. It got old real quick for me

>don't listen to the negative reviews this game's great

being dropped on your head as a child might mean you focus on your body and become an incredible weightlifter, when pursuing academia might've led you to an unfulfilling office job
does that mean being dropped on your head as a child is a good thing?
does it mean it's neither good nor bad?
think for a fucking second

Hmm
This sounds like a good experiment
>have 2 kids
>drop one as baby
>don't drop other one
>observe their careers
>post scientific report and make millions

I can't believe a fair amount of Crash Bandicoot detractors don't like the original trilogy because it's linear platforming. That's a very stupid excuse.

you say it's a negative quality because for you freedom = good and limitation = bad
but that's wrong because it's the limitation itself which gives shape to many games, it's not inherently bad
imagine when you're stuck at a boss and you cannot progress, if you had absolute freedom you could just skip over the challenge, or force yourself to complete it even knowing there's an easier option available, it doesn't feel rewarding because the difficulty is entirely defined by you instead of the game defining a difficulty that your skill must hold up to
beating a boss while knowing there was no other way around is great because you're surpassing that one obstacle that was stopping you from reaching your goal, defeating what limited you from seeing the rest of the content is rewarding

W-we had to cut it user!

this is literally every argument on Yea Forums when jacking off about 90s FPS games.

I've always lived linear games. The open world meme was always shit. Grand Theft Auto 3 ruined everything. Bad controls, atrocious visuals, it's just such an unpleasant experience.

BUT YOU CAN GO EVERYWHERE WOAH.
