Gen 8 was likely near the end of development before they announced the start of Town's development, which does not have any sort of release date last time I checked. It probably wont get a release for another year or so.

Nevermind remembered they gave it a 2019 release date. Wouldn't be surprised they delay it for pokemon though.

Modern Pokemon games get cherrypicked a lot, whic is sad. I hate SunMoon/UltraSunMoon because of the sheer amount of unskippable cutscenes, sure, but the gameplay itself was fun as fuck, Totems were a great new concept and fun to fight and hell, Hau's Alolan Raichu put up quite a good fight.

Yeah and in true GameFreak fashion they abandoned the idea like with Mega Evolutions because it was too good. USUM was a shot at introducing more Alolan Forms and they blew it.

But you're cherrypicking too. The issue is that awful design choices drag down the entire experience.

Who leaked that Gen 8 reveal on Pokemon Day thing and how credible are they?

It's fucking infuriating. I'm still pissed that they haven't introduced the Pokemon World Tournament outside of B2W2. It was great to see so many gym leaders and characters from previous generations, and in a traditional tournament format as well.

It seems like every generation Game Freak has a decent idea that improves the franchise and the games as a whole, but they never expand upon these features or introduce them into future games. They can just stop trying to reinvent the god damn wheel. Look at the Mystery Dungeon franchise, the gameplay is pretty much the same as the inception, but they have found what works and what doesn't and as a result the gameplay has become a solid formula on which great stories can be built on.

B/W even did the novel thing of making the STOP THE EVIL TEAM segment and the end of the game the same thing.

Cute design yeah, Tierno and that ginger retard should have been cut so Shauna could have gotten more development and screentime. Instead of fleshing out one or two decent rivals/companions Game Freak opted to make four shallow one dimensional cutouts.

Both Spike and Chunsoft died when they merged into Spike Chunsoft. Sadly, they're both merely shadows of their former selves.

I haven't played a Pokemon game in years, but practically every other RPG has far worse gameplay. Pokemon follows the Nintendo philosophy of making something deceptively simple but which actually has a ton of depth when you delve into it, in contrast to how pretty much everything else does the reverse and floods you with tons of systems which for the most part, boil down to different means of situationally maximizing damage and not dying fast enough that you can't heal yourself. The story was shallow as fuck though, including the characters and their motiviations, gym leaders didn't even feel like people like they did in Gen 5. The only one with any real development was Korrina, but all she did was walk around with fucking Lucario and act as a tutorial for mega evolution. The rest either has minor roles outside the gym not worth mentioning, or never left the gym at all and were just obstacles for you to beat and get a badge rather than a person that exists in the world of Pokemon.

Yeah, the game looked pretty and had a decent OST, but it had no fucking substance.

I'm not, I thought LGPE had some good ideas going for it, despite the overall product being pretty boring. Overworld encounters, following and riding Pokemon, Secret Techniques, etc. All it was really missing in terms of mechanics was wild battles, which easily could have been implemented if they weren't trying to appeal to GO fans. I was surprised myself but I honestly ended up feeling more positive about the 2019 games after LGPE than when they were first announced.

Gen 6 is dogshit, you can safely avoid it completely. Gen 5 is fantastic. Black and White take a while to get going, but by the time you get to B2W2 the region, the characters and the main antagonists are very fleshed out. The post game is amazing, there's something for everybody, there's the Pokemon World Tournaments, the Black Tower/ White Treehollow, the region becomes something like a Safari Zone with loads of new Pokemon being reintroduced to places you visited in the form of swarms.

Cheren does the same thing as Sarena/Calem, he is doing everything right on paper so he should be the strongest, and he is obsessed with becoming stronger and stronger. Bianca also comes to realize that she isn't really that strong of a trainer and seeks to find her place in the world. The resolution your rival in X and Y comes to is to say "im gonna get stronger and get you next time!11!", and then they fuck off.

The fuck? Silver changes quite a bit actually in how he views and treats his Pokemon, and while it isn't ideal in how they do it, his background if fleshed out in the Celebi event in HGSS.

If the character doesn't have any meaningful development or isn't getting any of their backstory/personality fleshed out then why the fuck should they be getting any attention within the story? That's my main issue with the "rivals" in X and Y.

This was intentional too, since in the early chapters of manga he beats the protag with "frustration" while near the end he beats the big bad with "return".

X & Y was more about worldbuilding that characters. Like that cutscene explaining the entire history of the region. S & M were all about characters and completely fell apart because they range from dull to detestable.

I agree. Tying those legendaries behind time limited events was a mistake. Even if those events were really fucking cool to me as a kid.

The region looks good, sure, but I come into Pokemon games for a compelling reason to explore it. If I get bombarded by some fat fuck doing a little faggy dance or by some ginger retard wanting to compare Pokedex's every route I will feel less and less compelled to experience the region any further.

Hardly even GSC is playable if you care about Pokemon on a mechanical/ gameplay level.
FR/LG's failure was in part aesthetics, but also its refusal to add anything new to the Kanto experience. It did not fail at making Kanto more playable, by introducing the gains of Gen III (abilities, bigger movepools; though they did hold back on held items).

This wrong in so many levels. B/W was shit tho.

Because it throws out everything but the Unova region, making it a different game, not the same game with some changes.

-Actually have decent combat animations.
-Keep LG's system of running into battles because fuck random encounters.
-No more "rivals" who are only there to stroke your dick.
-World Tournament, Pokethlon, stuff like that. The little side shit people loved in previous games.

But most importantly, have someone else besides Game Freak make it. I'd even take Marvelous or Koei Tecmo.

Gen III was a strange, experimental but interesting time for that kind of stuff, including the bullshit stuff like Mirage Island and the aforementioned events creating that sense of mystery, the Braille puzzles, e-Reader cards in Ruby/Sapphire that didn't really do anything meaningful other than the Eon Ticket, and things like Johto Pokemon overall being hell to get for the sake of the Pokedex data. Gen IV I suppose still had some neat shit despite online making events much less of a bitch, but after Gen V mishandled Zoroark incredibly hard it seems like this kind of stuff just dissolved away from Pokemon.
